Good For Light Duty Use Only
I bought two pair of these 2.5 yrs ago and while they are still working ok I won't use them often because they deflect far too easily and too much to be useful on what I have to cut up. My wife loves them and they weren't a waste, but for heavier branches, if you can't get an exactly square cut they will just twist and refuse to cut. When you are reaching deeply into a bush or tree that's seldom possible or ideal. I'm talking about softwood branches the size of a ballpoint pen. You may be able to find an angle that works but on harder stuff, forget it. I need metal cutters with a stiffer blade than these.

surprising
it's made out a of a durable plastic so no fears. works great.

Mostly strong plastic
Not my usual expectation for Corona product. Very lightly built cutter. Molded plastic grip, light metal stamping for the ratchet. Even the anvil side of the pruner is plastic

A great pair of easy-to-use clippers!!
I have arthritis now and these are perfect as they add clipping MUSCLE to my hands. But, having said that, I have been using them for over 20 years before I developed arthritis! LOVE THEM!!!

Excellent for Senior Gardeners
I am a 76 yrs old woman. Don't have arthiritis but my hand strength is not what it once was. The blades are sharp and the rachet action makes cutting thicker branches doable. Well worth the cost if I can prune and trim the way I want to rather than pay someone for this service.

Design Problems
Feels well made and the blade is sharp and ratchets as expected. I do have two problems with the pruners. I have big hands, but have a difficult time getting my fingers around the handles when they are in the open position. The open position is so wide that it is difficult and uncomfortable on my joints to force them closed. My second problem is with the safety lock. It is small and designed so it is difficult to operate. You must grasp and clamp down on the handles then use the other hand to move a hook lever that is located between the handles. It may be safe, but it is a poor design. If I Needed to Prune More Often, I Would Return These.

Only ratchet pruners in existence and not in stores
I and elderly and have small hands, so I cannot use pruners made for big strong hands. These pruners work well for me for about two years, and then the ratchet mechanism slips and I have to replace them. They are hard to find, so I was very glad to come across them on Amazon. I didn't give them 5 stars because of the limited lifespan. Still, they are worth the money.

May be cheep, but hard to beat!
At 60 years old, and doing this work professionally, I have tried them all ! They’re crazey easy on your hands and will cut all plant materials that fit inside the blade and anvil. ! I think some people have a little trouble getting used to the ratchet action. But I explain to try to take short little almost rapid pumping squeezes instead of squeezing hard each time. It will cut a lot easier that way. Your hands won’t be so tired at the end of the day!

Excellent Value!
After reading some of the negative reviews, I almost didn't buy these. I'm very glad that I did because, whatever they're made of, they work brilliantly well. They function as regular pruners if the branch is fairly thin and, if the branch is thick and you keep pressing the handles together, the ratchet function comes into play. I have a pair of Florian ratchet pruners and they're wonderful, yes, but they're REALLY expensive now - four times the price of these. And, for however long these Corona pruners last, they're every bit as effective. This is a fantastic deal. If you've never tried ratchet pruners, this is a very good place to start. I'm very glad I took a chance on them...!

Love tthem
I bought a pair about 30 some years ago and they broke after a lot of use. I mailed them back with my my purchase bill. They sent me a new pair which I worked them hard for years. They broke the other day. I was very hard on them cutting up to one inch branches. I have just ordered another pair. They are the best pruners I have ever had. I am a old guy now and the racket makes things easy. They are the best. Two pair in thirty years , how can you beat that. And they are so good with replacement.

Cheap, useless, nonsense. Avoid.
This is cheap nonsense. The ratchet does not function. Useless for real work. Pointless.

Plastic construction and defective ratchet.
I was excited to buy these based on the positive reviews on Amazon.com. I am disappointed because everything but the top black blade is plastic (even the bottom ‘blade’). My package also arrived damaged from shipping and the ratchet and blade lock were not functional.

Great product.
Ratchet anvil pruners are great, but can be hard to find. Corona makes a sturdy product that can cut through branches over half an inch thick with no problems. My favourite garden tool!
