Great, the Best rack made!
By far, the best rack made. Why did Thule discontinue? Mystery to me. The last two I had both lasted over 15 years and what made me buy new ones was not the actual rack failing but the pads wore out, and to replace all the pads cost around $150 if you could find them.

Expensive but worth it
All the Thule equipment is super expensive but I think it's worth it. You're getting solidly built gear, usually with smartly designed features. This kayak rack is easy to install on your existing crossbars. and you can fold them down flat just by pulling a handle, for when you are not using them but want to leave them on the car. Includes great straps as well as bow and stern ropes. A big heavy kayak on the highway with strong wind forces will do much better on the Glide and Set, which I also have. This is great for most kayaks and on my car roof I can take 2 boats, one on each. This HulaPort helps in that regard because its uses less width of the car. For a tall SUV, it will be easier for one person to load onto the Glide and Set by yourself, rather than the HullaPort.

High Quality - UPDATE
Perfect kayak racking system for my 4Runner. Easy to install, very sturdy and the folding racks have a spring loaded design that locks them in either the up or down position. In the down position I have plenty of room to get my truck into my garage without removing them. They do create some wind noise at highway speeds, but not too bad as long as I leave the sunroof closed. Also comes with easy to follow instructions and tips, as well as lines and straps you will need when you use them. Definitely recommend these. UPDATE: Still love these racks, but wanted to pass along one potential issue for Hobie owners with Mirage drives. Be aware that when you load the boats, take care to NOT align the Mirage drive slot in the hull with one of the J-racks. We learned the hard way that the bottom curved end of the J-rack is a perfect fit for the Mirage slot, and you can easily get you boat hung up while its over your head and not secure. All you have to do is be aware of this and ensure the Mirage slot is a foot or so away horizontally from the J-rack, and the boat will easily slide into place. Once its on the roof you can slide the boat forward or aft to get the placement you want to have. Or simply adjust the position on the roof mounts, but just FYI on the Hobie Mirage slot and avoiding potential issues.

Pleased so far
Thule Hull-a-Port Pro 835Pro The Carrier is made out of metal, it's paddled, pre assembled, without using the instructions I mounted it onto my Thule Aero Bars on a 2007 Lexus RX in :10 minutes I have not used it to carry my SUP yet so I can't give a report on road noise or stability carrying a board Without a board either folded down or extended there was no air noise going 80 mph So far I'm pleased with this carrier. A follow up to this review: I mounted my SUP to the kayak mount and went for a test drive, all was perfect. The mount is advertised as a kayak mount, but it's padded and perfect for my SUP also. The carrier is attached to a Thule aero bar, strong, sturdy, zero air noise, I would recommend this setup for anyone needing to carry boards like this. However they could likely be carried just as well flat on the aero bars also....

As advertised
I bought two sets of these to transport our two kayaks. I own a Jackson Cuda 14 and my girlfriend has a Tarpin 12. Both boats are very wide at just over 30 inches, and the racks hold them no problem. I really don`t understand some of the issues I`ve read about where the boats slide down and out of the cradles (?) I`ve had zero issues with boat movement thus far. I, like others, simply can`t give a product 5 stars if it can be stolen in less than 3 minutes. However, to deal with this threat I went down to my local West Marine store and grabbed four short lengths of SS wire and some crimps. Simply wrap wire around the cradle and the bar and crimp the ends together, I also put a short length of shrink tube around the connection to clean up the look a little. A lot tougher to steal and if I ever need to remove them, an easy snip and they`re off. Great as long as the local bottom feeders aren`t walking around with large wire cutters in there pockets.....so far they are not ; } Rod in Vancouver

Thule Hull-A-Port Pro
I purchased the Thule brand even though there were other less expensive models. I am one that believes that you get what you pay for. Not so true in this case. This is an excellent product but I didn't give it five stars because I didn't think it was heavy duty enough to warrant five stars. If you don't need the fold down feature that the Hull-a-Port Pro offers then I would recommend purchasing the less expensive "SportRack-Abr511". These are sold online and at Gander Mountain. After close inspection, it appears that the "SportRack" model and the Thule model may be manufatured at the same entity. The only difference is that the "SportRack" model doesn't have the ratcheting mechanism with the tie down ropes. The ratcheting mechanisms can be purchased separately. Overall I am satisfied with the Thule Hull-a-Port Pro but I believe that Thule products are a bit overpriced.

Thule 835PRO Hullaport Pro Rooftop Kayak Carrier
I have 2 of these kayak carriers mounted onto the OEM rack of our 2002 Toyota 4Runner. I selected them based on their design (especially liked the fold-down feature), online customer reviews, and my previous experience with Thule quality. My wife and I use them to haul our 2 Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 kayaks. The real test occurred when we hauled them on our vacation this summer all the way to Glacier National Park--a 2000 mile trip from our home! They did an excellent job! I was most impressed that they survived windy North Dakota-very secure fit. Two suggestion to ensure a safe, worry-free, long trip: make sure you use the included straps and front and back tie-downs. You may want to secure-anchor the front mounts with either a screw through the base, or rigid-connect the front mounts together--the kayaks (if you haul 2 as we did) will tend to want to separate/spread apart from the force of the wind over long distances. Great product! Thanks!

Owned for 7 years - just bought some new ones for a second vehicle.
I bought two sets of these 7 years ago for mine and my wife's kayaks. The quality is good and they are still going strong. Being able to fold them up when not in use is great. Easy to pop the kayak in and out. The straps are good quality with rubber protection over the clasps to prevent the kayak from getting scratched. I've just bought a new set for a second car. Great product.

Best quality carrier
There really is no better carrier, and for the record it is pronounced “Toool”. I love that it folds down too so I can go through the car wash.

perfect for kayaks
Bought a pair of these in the summer, they are fantastic quality, carried my kayaks on many camping excursions. Easy to tie down and release, a bit pricey but if you want good quality it'll always cost more

Great product!
These are the best carriers out there. A bit pricey but well we worth it. Extremely well designed and easy to install. Highly recommend watching the YouTube video to see how the strap system works.
