Craftsmanship isn’t great but mine was an easy fix

I bought this after seeing reviews about how the roof wasn’t very well put together. I thought maybe they were just unlucky and got a bad one so I rolled the dice and ordered one. Mine is also not well put together. I imagine you could just use some wood glue, or if you wanted to you could screw everything together to make it really secure. It sucks to have to go through that much effort on a brand new item, but it would be worth it in the long run. Besides that I do like it. I wish they had put on a perch to make it more accessible for all different kinds of birds. But overall I am satisfied with the purchase and depending on how well it holds up (I’ve only had it about a month now) I would consider ordering again

Good feeder with 1 easily fixed flaw

I got this feeder because it supposedly holds 5lbs of seed and has suet holders. I have weighed how much seed it will hold with my postal scale and it only holds about 4-4.5lbs of seed. The only other problem with it is that it does not have a hook to hang it with. It comes with a short rope with a not in the end.I live in a second floor apt and wanted to make sure that it did not come undone. What I ended up doing was undoing the not and then retying it around a dog leash hook. I then hot glued the rope so that it would not come off. It works really well this way. I was getting several big flocks of small birds coming to my feeder every day and at least 5 male cardnels and a woodpecker. I was having to fill this feeder up every 36 hours they were eating so much. It did take some of the birds a while to learn how to eat from it since the perch is so close to the hopper. After about a week the cardnels learned how to eat and the woodpecker showed up not long after that. I find that the birds spill a lot of seed with this which I think they do on purpose. I have birds eating from the feeder and from the ground at the same time. At times there is a big line for the birds to eat. I have also found that only about 2 birds will eat from the same side at a time because of space. It is really easy to fill this feeder up The top lifts up easily and I can fill it with my 3 quart scoop (from a local farm feed store). I would say that this feeder holds about 3 quarts of seed maybe a tiny bit more.

Decent starter bird feeder.

Reason for purchase: To hear the sound of the birds chirping in the morning….well for the wife anyways. Background: We have not tried many bird feeders before just the solid block style that also happens to attach to this feeder. The item: Perky-Pet 50144 Deluxe Chalet Cedar Feeder seems well built and there are no major issue with the quality of the product. Over the last few week with the major thunderstorms and long rain this product has kept bird seeds inside and dry. The only issue I have seen is with the length of the rope to hang the feeder is not really long enough to refill it while it hangs. Once you make a knot in the rope to hang it you have to remove it from the tree to refill it easily. Not a major issue but as seen in the picture you slide the top of the feed up the rope to refill the feeder. Note: The feeder does not come with anything to hang it, other than the short rope shown. You will need to buy some additional rope/hook to hang the feeder from. Squirrels can gain easy access to the feeder and as to date have not damaged the feed at all while selling the bird food. Final verdict: For the price this is a quality product that will server those that are just starting out to feed birds a good start.

Good construction

Built very well. Easy to fill. The cage holders on the ends are a bit too deep for the suet cakes, so may need to add a spacer (layers of cardboard?) behind the cakes to keep them against the front of the cage holders for better access for the smaller birds. Also, this design of cage holders don't allow birds to access from the bottom.

Good bird feeder, BUT...

This is an excellent feeder. The only reason I gave it four stars rather than five is that I've bought several now, and literally about HALF of the time they arrive with the plexiglass broken and have to be returned. (I'm pretty sure it's a matter of how they're packed at the factory, not as much at the Amazon end, because it has also been true buying them from other sources.) So, I would certainly recommend buying this feeder, BUT open the box and check it right away when it arrives to make sure it's intact. I would also recommend getting an extra one: As you probably already know, it's critically important to keep bird feeders clean and free of mold. With an extra one, you can scrub one down and soak it a couple of hours in bleach solution, then rinse it and let it dry for however many days it takes to get BONE dry before refilling it.

WELL MADE AND EASY TO CLEAN

I was amazed at how well this product was made just because of the price. I would have thought it would be rather cheap and unfinished. I was wrong, way wrong. So I am glad I listened to the reviews and my gut. The birds are already coming to it and it has not been that long. The two sided suet cake is what sold me on the product and no regrets with that either. You can tell it will be easy to clean also. With a double sided one I can attract a even more diverse flock of birds. Word is getting out on the wire though because the birds are coming more and more and fast and faster. The rope is strong and very sturdy- that will last. I am just very impressed by this. I having been eyeing some for a time now but hated the price. Glad I kept looking until I found this THANKS FOR MAKING A GREAT PRODUCT AND FOR SELLING IT AT AN HONEST PRICE

Adequate Bird Feeder

My brother and I bought two feeders for my mom for Christmas. I bought this one and my brother bought Amazon's Woodlink NARANCH3 12-Inch Audubon Cedar Ranch Wild Bird Feeder, Large for around $33. That feeder is far superior to this one. It has a coated wire hanger, for starters, and the wood is smoother and appears as if it will withstand the weather better. This will work, and it appears it will hold the five pounds of millet it says it will (it won't hold nearly that much sunflower seed, obviously), so I'm not horribly disappointed, but if I had it to do over again, I think I'd buy the other feeder instead.

Great feeder! Attracts lots of chickadees and I even had a large red headed woodpecker come to my window for the seeds! (Costco birdseed) That was really exciting to see up close. Also had a flicker and the little juncos would hop underneath for the fallen ones. The squirrels unfortunately can jump really high and were able to make a mess and knock the roof slightly. The roof is only held in by staples so not very sturdy.

Broken on arrival

The roof was broken at the peak and the nails on the braces dislodged. I fixed the roof with an L bracket and the braces with glue and longer nails.

I really was looking forward to this feeder for my backyard. The rope hanger broke and smashed the feeder on my deck. Not one bird every got to feed from it..Can't even find how to contact the company to see if they will replace.

Lasted a year

This bird feeder started to show signs of wear/weathering quicker than I had hoped. First the rope started to fray and it made the feeder fall to the ground and smash. Then after that it started falling apart. I just junked it yesterday.
