So Cute & Very Sturdy
Just received this bird feeder. It is so cute; as shown in the photos on Amazon. It is easy to fill (the top lifts off) and I assume will be easy to clean. It is very heavy gauge metal, with a nice paint finish. I think it will hold up well. The floor is sloped so that the seeds will rolls forward to the feeding area. The perch where the birds stand to eat the seeds is also sturdy and easily adjustable for the weight of your birds. When enough weight is on the perch---such as the neighborhood squirrel----the perch levers down, closing the openings where the seeds are stored. We just got this, have hung it up, haven't seen birds or squirrels there yet, but I a pleased. BTW, we hung the feeder on a shepherds hook; but it comes with a post adapter to insert if you wish to put it on a pole. Whatever you use to hang or set the feeder, it should necessarily be pretty sturdy - the feeder is heavy compared to wood ones.

They are smart
Even though it managed to unscrew the top, I still like it!

Works as advertised
This feeder does keep the squirrels away and keeps on feeding the small birds. The construction seems to be very solid. It is new so I do not yet know about durability. I am having fun seeing the squirrels not even trying anymore. They are happy to now eat in the ground underneath the feeder as the birds always spill the seeds while they are eating.

Keeps Squirrels and Large Birds At Bay -- Mostly
This Perky Pet feeder replaces a similar model that I had for years but that I had to dispose of after the metal bar stopped staying in its slot. I like it because it holds a lot of seed and because it mostly keeps squirrels out of it -- "mostly" because they have learned to stretch and support their weight on pieces other than the perch to get some of the seed. They cannot get a lot of seed that way, however, and so the feeder still stays full for a longer period of time than other, more accessible feeders. You can set the spring-loaded perch to one of four weight limits, depending on which birds and how many you'd like to eat at it. The design is ingenious but also one I've known about for decades, ever since my parents bought one of the first Hilarious feeders. The perch is spring-loaded, and when the weight exceeds the limit for it, the perch lowers and closes off access to the seeds with a metal piece. This newer version of the one it replaces has the weight limit notches facing the inner part of the feeder so that intelligent squirrels cannot pull it out of the slot -- I think that's why my last one failed. It also has a better tilt on the inside for force seeds into the hopper ports. The roof opens by turning the cardinal on top a quarter turn and then by lifting off the entire roof. Because of the wide open top, it's extremely easy to fill. Getting the cardinal/interior latch in place can sometimes be a little tricky, but mostly works easily, as long as I don't move the cardinal's position after I lift off the galvanized roof. Every part of this feeder is metal, which means that squirrels can't chew through it. It also keeps raccoons from getting the seed, although I have more of a issue with deer since I have mine hanging instead of pole mounted. The deer simply push it up with their heads to dump out the seed. When it comes to bears and super-light chipmunks, all bets are off. The feeder comes with mounting hardware for poles. I hang mine from a hook screwed into a tree because my soil is too rocky to be able to easily sink a pole deep enough. This feeder attracts a wide variety of songbirds. Since some, like cardinals, prefer hopper/tray style feeding rather than short-perch tubes, it allows them to feed while still discouraging squirrels. Other birds such as nuthatches and woodpeckers have a harder time. I keep a variety of feeders in my yard, and this one nicely supplements the others. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Not squirrel proof
The squirrels get into this as you can see. Now maybe my squirrels are just aggressive, but I moved the feeder to several locations and they had no problem. Even a baffle did not stop them. Cute bird feeder but only squirrels are using it.

Pretty and very solid! My Birds love it!
This bird feeder is pretty, sturdy and seems to do the promised job of keeping squirrels at bay, or should I say - away from it! There is a lever to the left side of the sitting bar, and one can adjust it to different sensitivities. When the lever is on its lightest, only smaller birds, like cardinals and titmice and robins can sit on it, whereas pigeons would press the feeder closed. When the lever is tightened, I think that larger birds would be able to come and feed, too. The squirrels, those little shenanigans, have tried to out-smart this feeder, but without any success so far. March 2nd, 2015 Add-on I downgraded this feeder to 3 stars, because after several weeks, I must say that I do not see as much bird traffic on it as I was used to with my old, wooden feeder. I am wondering why this is so... maybe it is the limited access space? Just one side, and room for 4 small, sparrow-type birds, if they sat nicely side by side... which of course, they won't! The squirrels sometimes find a way to get into it, too. But, that is OK, it is not all the time. I am missing my wooden feeder! There was a big bird party around it going on all day, every day, all winter long... now I am putting out the bird food on the side, on the patio table, so that more birds come to feed. UPDATE JANUARY 2021 Yes, it has been that many years, and every winter season, this feeder has been doing its job. When we hung it from the big tree we had in our yard, squirrels would eventually manage to get onto the feeder. With their hind legs, hey grab onto the bar over the feeder, then just hang down over the roof to eat from the tray. It does not keep the birds away, though: after some initial inquisitiveness and reserve, we have plenty of birds of all sorts, all day long. It is so entertaining to watch them take turns. I have to fill the house every two days. The squirrels are not that much of a customer, really. And we don't mind them coming and eating, too. Overall, they don't take that much away. Our dogs chase them soon after they arrive, mostly! Now, I re-stationed it since last winter, as we had to take down the tree. It now hangs down from the outer most joist of the deck roof structure. Looks like this place keeps squirrels away. They investigated, but then turned away. NOTE: This is a three part review, the last part being in January of 2021 Overall, I am very happy with this bird feeder. It has only a little rust now on the handle bar. Other than that, it is in mint condition. I have noticed that many people gave it very bad reviews. I don't know, why. My feeder is awesome. The birds love it and six years of perfect service is not a bad track record at all. I would have given it 5 stars if the roof had a wider overhang on the feeding side, so as to better protect the food from snowfall and rain. Ideally, I'd add another 5 inches of overhang. Maybe the makers of this bird house can take note? If you find my review helpful, thanks for letting me know!

Birds will not use it
Very well made and looks great, but after six weeks the birds will not use it. I don't know why; I suspect the land and see the seed through the windows but cannot get at it. They simply do not peck seed from the trays below the windows. I've even tried blocking the windows so the birds are not distracted by the sight of seed they cannot get...but nothing seems to help them to eat. A waste of money.

This was a waste of money
I know we have had a lot of rain but you would think the roof of this birdhouse would be waterproof but no. So everything in there gets wet and moudy. So glad i didn`t fill it full. And yes I have put the roof on properly every time. It is now in the bin.

not pigeon proof now in bin due to rust see photos
bought because thought it would stop the pigeons feeding but they just hold the bar with one leg and put the other on the feeder squirrels will do the same. pity it looks nice. if they would extend the front to make it like a porch I think it would stop pigeons and make it harder to get the seeds. now in the bin due to rust panels all rusted through on the bottom make it out off stainless steel then it would last not worth the price.

Not only not squirrel proof but now can't get the thing to stay level.
I bought this thinking it would be squirrel proof but it's not. The squirrels worked it out in no time. However, I can cope with that. I'll just look elsewhere to find something that is squirrel proof. The bit I am annoyed at is that within weeks I'm unable to use the feeder as it now doesn't stay level. It tips so I can't even put seed in for birds or squirrels! Maybe I've lost a part or something but the other annoying factor is I can't seem to find anywhere to email the supplier to ask their advice!

A nice product that looks good and which the birds enjoy ...
Arrived safely with no damage to the product itself despite very little protective packaging and a badly damaged external box that had been sellotaped back together on the damaged sides and corners. Please note the wind vane shown on top is actually a fixed item and does not move in the wind. A nice product that looks good and which the birds enjoy feeding from.
