Just finished hanging it in the ceiling. Appears sturdy and works as it should.

Great, but bracket needs a redesign
It does what it says. The retraction spring is strong, but not enough to whip the cord around. Easy to adjust the tail length, and the male-end cord from the reel to the outlet is plenty long at about 3'. I have this ceiling mounted, and it lives up there just fine. Only knock is that the designers don't seem to understand the concept of a keyhole; the included lag screws won't fit through the circle. Makes ceiling mounting more difficult. There isn't enough metal to drill a larger hole without risking the integrity of the bracket, either. The bracket is held on with captive screws and nylock nuts. It looked risky to remove, so I didn't. The nylocks also don't have hardly any thread engagement. The included lag screws are also quite short, and would just barely go through 1/2" drywall and have any purchase on a stud. That was a no-go for ceiling mount. I haven't pushed the amperage on it, but it has powered everything I've asked of it with no complaint and no hint of voltage drops. I would buy again, but would dread remounting it.

Ok so far....
So far so good, This 20' model was the best bang for the buck when I ordered it. Retractable spool action isn't as smooth, or as energetic as I hoped, Quality, fit and finish of the cord itself seems acceptable, mine does not have a UL listed label on it, but is INTERTEK Listed instead. It's labeled for Dry locations, general use only, not near hazardous locations or flammable vapors. 8 amp 125v 18/3 gauge, and comes with a little red LED on the tri-tap plug end, and a little red overload reset button on the reel. It fits the bill so far for general shop use, I haven't opened it up to see what the connections look like inside, but those are usually what fails on this type of power reel. I'll update the review as necessary as time goes on.

You can fix the retraction - temporarily.
Eventually, you (or your kid) will put the cord all the way out. When you do, you might be able to jerk the cord to retract, or you might not. If you can't, the solution is a long flat-head screwdriver, aimed upward into the unit aimed for the edge of one of the holes in the spool and a long, hard push up and back into the unit. You might do well to stand on your loose cord as you do this to avoid sudden cord whip, After you do this, should you pull the cord out all the way again it might jerk to retract, or it might not. Mine never did. No solution yet for the trigger-happy circuit breaker.

Really like how easy it is to retract the cord
The spring on this thing is INSANE! If wring this cord out to 50ft and let it go it will be fully retracted in <3 seconds, whipping everyone in the process. Really like how easy it is to retract the cord. The auto-spool or whatever makes it hassle free instead of trying to guide the cable in awkwardly for all 50ft into your garage ceiling. My only gripe is that when it is fully retracted, it still hangs about 2.5 feet down from the ceiling. I assume this is for if you have taller ceilings. In our garage, it ends up hitting cars as we drive in. I wish that part was adjustable.

Looks good from the outside, but doesn't quite deliver.
Pros: Rugged outer construction, Versatile mounting options, excellent cord retraction. Cons: Circuit breaker trips and needs resetting constantly, even under relatively light loads. Quality Control needs improvement. Fist unit I received looked great out of the box. Unpacked and took about 30 mins to ceiling mount the unit through drywall and into studs. The lag screws included were really short, like an 1 1/4" so, had to purchase longer screws. After instilling, decided to test the unit...came to find that one of the outlets was obstructed, so, basically, so only 2 outlets accepted plugs. My fault for not checking prior to installing? Probably...but who would think that one of the outlets would be blocked? So, I returned that unit and got another one. Second unit installed and used it only to find that the circuit breaker would constantly trip and have to be reset. Kind of inconvenient given that I mounted it to the ceiling. Not running anything to crazy, vacuum and sander, both drawing less than 10 ams combined I believe. Well, at least know I know not to try and put any loads on it. Overall, 2 stars. Probably wouldn't buy again and will look for a different one next time.

This is the best unit out there
Mounted this unit on the ceiling of my woodworking shop. It is excellent. I read a lot of reviews and people had various complaints about different units. This one is bomb proof. 12 gauge wire and triple plug. Perfectly functioning recoil. I would highly recommend this unit.

Easy to mount, looks and feels solid. Cable is not stiff but flexible. Recoil works very well. Overall pleased with this product.

Bought 2. 1 broke within a week.
I purchased 2 cord retractors 6 months ago. One didn't retract within a week but the others hanging in there. I'd shop around to see if there's a better product..

perfect
not much to say about an extension cord it retracts smoothly and recoils smoothly as well just make sure you wipe the cable prior to it going back into the housing otherwise premature failure of the mechanism is eminent
