Dogs love it!
Love this door. The dogs love that they can see through the panels. Our last one was solid gray. Magnets on the doors work great!

Small dogs door may stay open
We got a 13 lb dog. The door often times hangs up on the opposite felt frame. The door is slightly too big for the felt. The fix is to trim/ taper bottom the plastic door and /or take poodle clippers n cut weather stripping. I stuck blade parralell in middle of felt n trimmed middle out untill door reliably closed. The door needs momentum to close so a 30 lb dog or a fast little dog it closes. If small and slow it doesn't unless you do the fix. If u just have small dogs recc smaller version or do fix above. If u install the door as low as possible it will help with small dog issue n recc mounting close to hinge side - crooks can still get at handle probably but tougher Saw This door work with a 70 lb dog thin chested but barely. I cant get thru it but barely My kids cam / wife might.

Great door, tough to install but that's our fault
It's up and working great. Here's what we learned. 1. Know what your door is made out of and use the proper tools for it. Our door is metal over foam. We didn't know this when we started, so we tried using a regular drill bit. Don't, unless you like heating up your drill, acrid smoke, and terrible smells. Once we got a jigsaw blade and drill bits for metal, installation went a lot smoother. 2. You can install the dog door without removing the door from the hinges first. We have pets, so it was easier for us to leave it hanging during the install. 3. You can install the dog door on a raised panel door. Just fill in the gaps with silicon caulk to seal it once it's in place. There is also already a silicon seal on the exterior of the dog door which works great. The angled edges of the raised panels are tricky but not impossible to drill through. Mark well and take your time. The included cutting template worked really well. We attached it with painter's tape as we used it on both sides of the door. We marked the inside of the door with the template, removed the template, drilled through the door, made the cuts on the inside with the jigsaw, repositioned the template on the outside using the drilled holes as references, marked the cutout for the template on the outside, removed the template, and cut the outside. 4. Lay out all your tools and safety equipment first so you don't have to stop partway through to go find anything. For metal skin doors, we used a long sleeve shirt, long pants, boots, gloves, and safety goggles that cover around your eyes too, and a face mask. The flying bits of metal are no joke. If your door is metal skinned, hearing protection is another must. The sound of metal cutting through metal is very loud and painful. 5. You can use a skill saw or a jigsaw for the cutout. We used a jigsaw with a blade for cutting metal. 6. Clean as you go. We used the nozzle attachment on an upright vacuum and a soft, fine bristled broom and dustpan. A shop vac would also work. We're entirely on hard surfaces and those worked, but wouldn't be enough over carpet so please put down a dropcloth first. You don't want your pet to get into any insulation and metal bits. 7. Take your time. Despite what you may see on YouTube, this will take more than 20 minutes, especially if you clean up afterward. Overall installation went well but was challenging, and that's our fault because we were not using the right tools at the beginning. The door works great and is really well made. We're looking forward to it lasting for years.

1+Year in, still love this door!
I just finished cleaning this dog door and decided I should write a review since it has been so great. I didn't rate ease of installation as I brought it to the local shop and had them pre-install it for me when I bought the door. This dog door does everything it advertises. It keeps the cold out and the heat in. Some dogs take a bit of getting used to it, I think the double flap can throw some pups off. Like others, I will be buying a second security door for super cold nights and also to have as a spare. Cleaning the flaps was super easy. Each one is held in place with 4 Phillips head screws on a plastic trim piece. The flaps are thick flexible plastic, like the kind on supermarket walk-in-coolers. The top of them have 4 holes which fit over nubs on the housing. I'd say it took a total of 15 seconds to remove a flap, and maybe another 15 to put it back on (I set the clutch on my drill to 8/25). Cleaning the flaps was super easy, barely an inconvenience. Be wary about using scrubby sponges though, they will mark up the flap. 100% worth the Investment if you have a dog that likes to go in and out of the house, summer or winter. I have a 70 pound female Doberman and have the XL size door. It's exactly the right size for her, she barely stoops down as she flies in and out at a full run.

Upgrade to extra large from my previous pet door
My previous pet door was a little small (installed when I had smaller dogs) for my 45 pound dogs. They could still go through it, but they had to duck down some and as they have gotten older it's not as easy for them. The original door only had a single flap to cover the opening and was not very energy efficient. When I unboxed the pet door, both of the plastic flaps were slightly deformed from being stored without staying in contact with the magnets at the bottom of the door to keep them straight. This was not unexpected. A few minutes with a heat gun (or hair dryer) solved the problem and the flaps work as designed. I found it easier to cut the opening and install the pet door by removing the wooden door and placing it on saw horses. My advice is to not use the provided template and instead use the part of the pet door that goes inside to mark the screw holes and the outline for cutting. Just make sure to cut slightly outside of the outline to allow the two door pieces to slide through and connect. The outer portions of the pet door are wide enough to cover a large opening, so no worries if you cut the opening a little big.

Nice
Nice product. Didn’t end up needing it so I returned it. But it looked like it was quality built.

Cat needs to adjust
The door I put this in already had a larger door for a dog. I had to cover the hole and cut a smaller hole to fit this door, but the only material I could acquire fast was plexiglass and that added just enough thickness that one screw would not start in the embedded nut on the other door half. Otherwise, it works fine, but the cat is used to a stiff plastic single flap and only uses the door to come back in after I let him out. He'll figure it out sooner or later.

An honest review from the cold Canadian prairies
Pretty disappointed. I live in the cold prairies that drops below -30 Celsius so I did some extensive research to find a dog door for extreme winter. I landed on Perfect Pet after reading all the positive reviews of how well it handles cold and wind, and boy were they wrong. I installed everything by the book and even caulked the plastic exterior along the door to make it as efficient as possible, but on the first cool night I could feel air leaks in the the bottom corners of the flap. There is two gaps in the corners where the flap doesn’t seal completely that allows air to leak through. And when it gets real cold, the flaps stiffens and creates frost just like in the photo. Almost not worth using in the winter. I wish I would have chosen another door, but I don’t know which reviews to trust anymore.

Must have for northern alberta living
Amazing! Little tricky to install, one of the predrilled screw holes was not drilled all the way through so we had to actually use a drill bit and drill it through otherwise the screw wouldnt go in enough to grab on to the exterior side of the door other then that, works amazingly. Living in northern alberta this door does not frost or have ice build up, there is no draft and both my dogs mastered using it in no time...i highly recommend this door.

Doesn't work
Unfortunately with a slight gust of wind the doggie door flap opens and let's cold air in. I don't know this can be an all weather doggie door unless the ment with this door you'll get all sorts of weather inside the house from cold to hot air. Now I have a huge hold in my door and I have to figure out how to stop the wind from opening the door. I may have to build a fence in front of the door to hopefully stop the wind from hitting the door. If that doesn't work looks like I'll have to pay $800 for a new door

Survived a severe Canadian winter
I had to replace a doggie door we had because I got a bigger dog. The doggie door is in our bedroom wall and no drafts came through even during a freakishly cold Alberta winter. The magnets got a bit sticky with frost but that didn’t stop the dogs from using the door. The plastic shield is great for blocking unwanted use. I highly recommend this door!

Decent dog door
It was relatively easy to install (with the right tools). It took some time for my dog to want to push through the second flap without pawing at it incessantly but we got there. I live in a northern climate and we’ve had some double digit negative days and it seems to be decent so far on the warmth factor. The concern I have is with the magnets holding in the wind. I have seen the door blow open with a strong gust. It’s also gotten stuck open a couple times when my dog pawed it a certain way the inside flap got stuck to the outside flap magnet letting cold air in. Overall it seems like a decent dog door.
