Good for newborns that won't latch onto your breast
When I had my first son (7 years ago) a lactation consultant had given me a nipple shield to help my newborn latch on. The problem with this system was, he wouldn't latch on my breast unless I had a nipple shield on it from that point on. The benefit of this was I never had sore nipples! My second son was much easier so I didn't really need to use a shield. Now, my third was just like my first. Didn't seem to want to work at getting his fill and wouldn't stay latched on long enough to get the amount of milk to please him. I decided to try the nipple shield again. Unfortunately the shield I had from the lactation consultant was starting to crack and I needed to find a new one...quick! I tried one brand that wouldn't stay on my breast and my son wouldn't even try to latch on with it when it did. Then I ordered this one. I personally think it's a little too big. It's defiantly larger than a bottle nipple. My son did latch on with this but it's also a lot larger than the shield the lactation consultant had given me. The only other complaint I have is it doesn't seem to stick on as well as the other one I have either. After a little while it seemed to slide or worse fold down a little over my sons nose/mouth which I did not like. I'm not sure if this was a problem that I just had or if it's a common thing. That being said, this does the job and I would recommend it to anyone that is having any problems getting their newborn to latch on (just keep an eye on it to make sure it's not folding down like mine did). Keep in mind, once they've gotten used to latching on your breast with a shield on, they will most likely not want to latch onto just your breast anymore.

very helpful!
I was given one of these at the hospital as I am a first time mother and was having trouble getting my baby to latch. I didn’t like it at first but grew to love it made feedings a lot easier for my newborn so I bought a few more. I am now 6 weeks postpartum and we just recently stopped using these since I got her to latch finally. These were very helpful in the beginning though.

Only shield my baby will use
I've been using this shield for 8 months due to latch problems. This is the absolute only shield my baby will use! After the dog got a hold of the one the hospital gave me when my daughter was about 2 months old, I had to scramble to find another to get her to eat. After trying the Medela, Tommee Tippee, and Philips AVENT shields with absolutely no success, I ordered several of these on rush. I now have 4 on hand and have note had any more problems related to breastfeeding. I'm not entirely convinced that the reason she wouldn't use the others was just because that's what she's used to. The Medela and AVENT shields were almost identical, with a more rounded shorter tip and the plastic was much thicker and less pliable. The Tommee Tippee has these weird little holes in the side that are supposed to be "better for airflow" but I just found them to be uncomfortable for both me and my daughter. Unfortunately that was the one that was closest to the Ameda and what we ended up using while we waited for our shipment, but my daughter ended up with a red/sore tongue and I ended up with red/sore nipples because of those helpful little holes.

Exactly like what the hospital gives.
I’ve had a hard time finding something exactly like the shield I got from the hospital they only gave me one. . This is it!! I have twin girls and neither will nurse without this!! I’ve tried the medela and the lansinoh and neither would use them they are two short and in my opinion hard.

Not like pictured
I wanted the shield that comes down like pictured but was sent a full circle one. I already had one like that and this isn’t want i wanted. Overall good product though.

Not as good as the Medela one
The design makes it hard for it to stay on and it falls off easily. I'd rather recommend the one from Medela.

Great for troubled nursing
The nipple shield is great for those moms who have problems nursing because of various nipple issues or babies who have latching problems. I've been using my nipple shield since my sons birth, it allows me to continue giving him the benefit of me nursing him.
