If you like mashed potatoes, this will change your life

I can't express enough how game changing this tool is for making mashed potatoes. I saw a bunch of videos over the holidays saying these were awesome but everyone was sold out. Finally tried this, and I'll admit, it felt expensive, but first try and I was absolutely in love. If I had anything negative to say it's that doing a huge batch might feel pretty slow. This will fit about the size of one large russet at a time. But pressing, assuming the potato is cooked well, takes just a few seconds. And your potatoes will be so smooth after each pass that you won't spend any time with a manual masher. So maybe, at the end of the day, it's not slow at all compared to a traditional masher. You don't need to peel your potatoes, the skin is left behind. After about 2 potatoes though you'll probably want to take the screen apart and run water over it to remove the left behind skins. They don't just scoop out. Use that knowledge on whether you want to peel first or leave on. You definitely do get less waste if you leave on because it truly does leave behind just the skin and not any of the meat. As a quick mashed potatoes tip, if you love garlic, take a whole head and slice just the top off leaving the gloves barely exposed. Bake in oven inside foil at 350 for 30-60 minutes depending on size of the head. The cloves will almost liquify and you can squeeze the entire head upside down into your potatoes. Absolutely incredible.

Great ricer -- sadly, not fun to clean...

This ricer has a lot to recommend over other ricers I've used. However, I gave it only 2 stars for ease of cleaning because it took waaaay too long to remove leftover bits of potato from the grating discs. This is the reason I ditched our last ricer which had holes on all sides that were hard to clean. We once had a fancy garlic press that came with an insert designed to perfectly fit the hole openings and push through any bits of garlic that got stuck. Loved that feature -- it'd be great to include something like that with this ricer. If that ever becomes available I'll change my rating because everything else about this ricer works really well...

Easy to use

This is a very sturdy potato ricer and easy to use. It's nice that it has grooves to place over a bowl to hold your ricer while squeezing handle. Highly recommend.

Delightful

Makes clouds out of potatoes. Get this for any potato recipe to elevate the mash texture. Use peeled potatoes to avoid a headache when cleaning up. Chef’s kiss.

Pretty good

It does a great job ricing potatoes. Just don't put it in the dishwasher. The plastic components will weaken over time and crack. Overall, we like it but it's a bit of a pain to hand-wash when we know it won't withstand the harsher dishwashing cycles.

Good quality, sturdy and easy to use

Very solid and does the job. A little big to store but that’s the only downside but it’s necessary for it to fit on the pot. Would definitely recommend for mashed potatoes.

Best mashed potato ever

Great product. Was fed up with having to pummel potatoes and still ended up with lumps. This is very easy to use and gives completely smooth mash. When making a mashed topping for cottage pie I run it through the ricer once, then add butter, seasoning and (optional) cream, then rice it again straight on top of the pie filling. It doesn't sink and gives a lovely crusty topping when browned. Quite expensive but strong and works well.

Another good OXO Good Grips item

Big, sturdily made. Works very well but you have to watch out for the "squasher" which allows small quantities of potato to "leak" round the sides of it on to the top surface. The effect is then that it chucks that bit of potato at you as you open bit up for the next load. Still an'all, it's a good and effective item and the fit between the cup and the "squasher" might be very difficult to make tighter.

Works very well, happy with product!

Happy with product. Quite sturdy but not invincible as it looks. Still need to be careful not to crack or push super hard. Works well very happy.
