Solid!
I taught cooking for many, many years, and was never without this instrument. It is heavy, uses it's own leverage to pound things thin. no need to exert force. Solid metal through and through. The other kind I used to use when i was young, was round, with a handle in the middle. worked well, but you needed to be strong to exert force. This style really requires very little effort. I wouldn't be without it.

Meat pounder
It is VERY well made. Slightly heavy but doable. Does a great job of flatting chicken.

Totally worth the money over using a pan or traditional style mallet
I see cooking show hosts all the time saying you can just use a pan to flatten your cuts of meat. I've tried it before because I didn't want to spend money on a single use utensil in the kitchen. Then i ruined one of my good pans (which may have not been as good as I thought) trying to pound out some chicken. I decided I didn't want to do that again so I started looking for something to use instead. I saw this model and I liked that it was metal, had a rather large surface area and was supposed to have some heft to it but not too heavy. I saw the reviews about the sticker being hard to come off but it disappeared almost instantly with some goobegone. I will mention mine came with a moderate scratch on the top shiny side. I decided to wait and see if it causes any serious issues since it's a pure cosmetic issue and I'm sure even with handwashing it'll probably get scratched more anyway. If it starts to rust or discolor I'll edit. As far as performance goes, it made pounding out pork loin and chicken breasts a breeze. The large surface area flattens out things with less effort than using a larger pan for sure. No worries I'm going to break it since it's all metal and no cheap plastic. I wish I had bought this sooner.

VERY Solid -- You know it's good right off the bat and it will tenderize your meat EASILY
For years I've been ineptly using a wooden tenderizing mallet that has a flat end on one side and a dimpled/spiked end on the other side. Always wondered why it made tenderizing meat into such an ineffective chore. Now I know. I had been thinking of buying one of the more common, run-of-the-mill pounders/tenderizers that are "vertical" and you just slam down on the meat or chicken to tenderize it. But that seemed a bit dangerous to me so I got the bright idea of searching for something more "professional", like the butchers use. And this is it. I remember watching butchers turn pieces of meat into nice, thin, and very tender filets with just a few whacks of their extended-handled meat tenderizers like this model from Norpro. So I did a bit of research on Amazon and determined this was the one to get: it looked solid, had a just the right sized handle, and looked nice and shiny to make cleaning it easy. Wow was I impressed. It didn't take but a few whacks to perfectly tenderize some poultry and steaks I had. I was initially worried about hitting the meat at an angle or otherwise in an "offsides" manner and ruining it, but the balance is perfect, and the angle of the arm is just right so that it's almost impossible to not hit the steak perfectly where you want it. You end up with a uniformly pounded piece of meat or chicken, and you save your knuckles. One note for you to consider: you absolutely do not, nor should you use, one of those contraptions that has the spikes or dimples to tenderize anything. All that will do is punch holes in whatever you're trying to tenderize. With this Norpro tenderizer you perfectly "tenderize", e.g. make the meat softer, just by flattening it with a few good whacks. May try this one some thicker pieces of fish filets so I can make fish "chicharron", AKA "fried fish rinds"...like pork rinds but with fish instead...yummy and healthy! PS Super easy to clean...everything just washes off it's shiny/smooth surface. Haven't tried dishwasher yet, but I think it'll wash there well too.
