1 Year of Use after Stress-induced Hair Loss
Long review, but I think it's worth sharing my experience so far with hair loss (that's not a total horror story) I had a stressful 2018 summer. Stress at work, stress at home. I am a worry-wart naturally, but 2018 took the cake for me. I let my hair grow out to the longest it's probably ever been--about half way down my back. I noticed I started shedding a ton and I chalked it up to not cutting it in forever. This was April/May 2018. Well, I kept shedding... and shedding... and shedding... I could run my fingers through, tug slightly, and hair would fall out. No big deal, never thought anything of it... Until I went to get my hair cut... I just go to the local chain, as usual. She cuts my hair and tells me I am losing hair as she combs through it. Panic mode ENGAGE! I start looking at my scalp daily, counting hairs, driving myself insane. My scalp, part, and bang area suddenly looked super thin. My scalp stuck out like a sore thumb. No one else seemed to notice, but I sure did. This was September 2018. Doc appointment made with my GP. I ask about my HBP meds (I am only 36 and HBP runs in the fam) and he tells me it's not known to cause hair loss. I tell him, well... my nerves have been totally shot this summer & I have lost about 20 lb as well. He says, BINGO! I ask for help and have started some meds for my anxiety. This was October 2018. I also talked it out with a friend. That helps. I talked with another woman that had stress-induced hair loss. She assured me you won't go bald... it will feel like you will! But you won't. It takes time to recover. It was nice to share experiences. If you ever Google this topic... there are of course more horror stories than recovery ones. 6 months after my likely 'trigger' point (April 2018). I shed some when I brush, but it is not anywhere near as bad as it was just 2 months ago. After my doc appointment, I started taking prenatals and biotin. I also ended up purchasing the Nioxin 3 system in late November 2018. I have *ALWAYS* had fine, thin hair. I have also always shed hair. It's so baby-fine & wispy, it's almost hard to see when it falls. If I am in the car with my husband and the windows are down-- there's always some that gets stuck in his beard! He picks it out and hands it to me... 'I believe this belongs to you!' I purchased the Nioxin system because it seemed to be highly recommended by stylists for thinning hair. -After 1 month of use, I *DID* notice an increase in shedding those first 3 weeks. I also shed NEW GROWTH. -My hair *DID* seem quite dry for a bit, almost frizzy. I believe it was my hair and scalp getting used to the new shampoo/conditioner. Kept my cool and let the system do its thing, regardless of the increased shedding. I figure I am getting rid of weak, dead hair that was going to fall anyway. Get it gone, let's move on! Week 4, I was not shedding near as bad and my hair was soft, silky, and has tons of volume. I wash my hair every day. Probably shouldn't, but it would look like a grease trap if I didn't. This stuff makes your hair stand up at the roots, which is nice. At the time, I did use some of the Toppix hair cover to fill in my part a bit, until everything started to regrow. It made me feel less self-conscious. ---------- Month 2 ---------- My hair shedding was still what I would consider minimal. Instead of shedding probably 70ish hairs when styling at the height of my loss, I shed maybe 20-30 max now in the morning. I'm not picking hair off my shirt through the day either. My hair continues to be soft, silky, and full of body. I wash my hair every day (at night before bed and I just wet/comb, blow dry in morning), I leave the conditioner in for about 2 minutes (when I feel it get cool & tingly), and I use the scalp treatment every day. For the scalp treatment, Shake well, I hold it about 2 inches from my scalp and spray into a part in my hair. Massage in. There aren't any directions, so I thought that might be helpful! This is approximately 9 months after my likely trigger point. ---------- Month 3 (March 2019) ---------- I am still shedding 20ish or so that I notice when styling in the AM. Not bad, but of course it's something I'll forever notice now. Stress levels are low, taking my vitamins everyday, and I'm seeing slow progress. My part and crown look much better. I now sometimes forget to sprinkle in my Toppix Hair Builder in the morning. I really like that stuff though because it does hide the screaming white of your scalp. The particular part of my hair I see the most noticeable difference is the part where my bangs meet the longer part of my hair. Last Fall, I was combing over bangs to hide the bare scalp I could see. I can now brush my hair and style as usual. Still thin up top, but hopeful that things keep moving forward. My parts are not getting wider and I still see all of my new little sprouts up top, so yes, positive! I have not gone back to have my hair cut at any salon, out of fear someone may say somethin... because sure enough, I will start panicking again. I'll just trim at home for now, thanks. I have colored my hair at home with one of the L'Oreal kits and the color lasted the usual 4ish weeks. I always go for a red hue and those never last long anyway. No noticeable increase or shedding after coloring either. ---------- Month 4 (April 2019) ---------- Still moving in a positive direction. Slow but steady progress! Major stressors gone at this point as well. ---------- Month 6 (June 2019) ---------- This would be 1 year past my likely trigger point now. I would say (and I wish I had photos, but I deleted them because I was freaking out...) that the worst period was between October-November 2018, at the 6 month mark. Once I started Nioxin in November (could have been a combination of things, who knows) but my hair really stopped shedding in January 2019. Things have been on an upward swing since. I no longer use the Toppix fill-in. I style my hair and move on for the day. I don't have luscious mane of hair and never did, but at least it's back to normal now! ---------- 1 Year later (October 2019) ---------- Here's a basic timeline, as of today: 1.5 yrs after trigger, 1.25 yrs after start of shed, 1 year after beginning Nioxin, 10 months of shedding decreasing. I went from shedding a handful every morning at the end of 2018/early 2019, to **slowly** decreasing over time... now I shed maybe 10/20 hairs while styling in the morning. At the height of the shed, my sink would be covered in hair. I feel like my hair is close to being back to normal at this point. I suddenly have a ton of sprouting up top as well! Hard to see it in the photo, but those little guys are there! Up until the last month or so, I think I've been 'maintaining' what I have without really getting any denser/thicker. All of a sudden, it just seems to have started growing! I will continue with Nioxin-- I like how my hair feels and the peppermint is refreshing in the shower. It always feels clean and soft once dried. It's also not falling out in spades anymore. I am still trimming my own hair though. I have alternated finding deals on what I need between Amazon and Ulta. You can always find a discount somewhere, you just have to look! Pricier than your grocery store brands, but well worth it in the long run. Be reminded: These are *not* products that regrow your hair, like Propecia or Rogaine. Instead, they simply clarify and promote a healthier, stimulated scalp. A good environment for your hair to grow... and it takes time. With everything I tried, between vitamins, this system, and just taking better care of my hair in general (and also trying to remain calm)-- It's really the sum of all things that helped me. Good luck from me on your progress!

My second time using nioxin
I’m 19F and was just born with fine hair. I don’t necessarily have hair loss, but my hairdresser recommended that I give Nioxin a try and see if it might help me grow more hair. The first time I used it was roughly a year ago. I definitely experienced more hair growth. I was very pleased with the results. It’s good to note that the first few times you use it, you will likely experience some redness and a warm feeling around the scalp and maybe down you back where the shampoo and conditioner has touched. This is normal. Nioxin increases blood flow to the scalp thus helping hair grow. I experienced a week and a half of hair purging and then it stopped. After 3 months I stopped using it and, personally, I did not experience any hair loss after it. Now a year later, I decided to give it another 3 months. I had about a week of hair purging that has since stopped. I didn’t experience any redness or extreme waring sensations as I did during my very first few times a year ago. I wouldn’t say the product gives me enough moisture, so after rinsing the conditioner, I usually go in with a different conditioner and let it sit on my hair (avoiding the scalp) for a while and this seems to solve my bit of dryness. Overall the product always leaves my scalp feeling very clean. I can go days between using the shampoo with no build up or greasiness. I’ve seem very nice results from the product!

So far so good
I'm perimenopausal and starting to lose my hair at my temples...but now I'm seeing a change in my once-thick and luxurious hair is thin and limp. I'm taking supplements to helps but all the other "hair growth" shampoos I've used before haven't felt right. Either they coat it and it's weighed down or it gets dried out. So far this system "feels" good. No extra film/weight and it's not drying out. I'm not seeing any growth, and I still have breakage, but I'm just at my first round...little over a month use.

I see new growth
So I’m a mom of 3 and have history of hypothyroidism, so I have a lot of hair loss. My hypothyroidism has been corrected so I’m not having as much hair loss but still I noticed it is thinning. I bought this product on the recommendation of a friend and after using it for some time I absolutely love it. It smells great, I’ve seen new growth in my problem areas, and my hair feels thicker. It’s not as thick as it once was but it’s better than it has been in a long time.

A week in.
I've been using this product a week so far. (not long enough to write a full review but I felt I needed to state this) I have very fine hair. I mean, super fine. And recently my hair has been shedding and falling out. (I posted pictures above, the first is before I started using nioxen. The next is a few days in and the last is a week) I wash my hair every day to every other day. I have to. Otherwise my hair is so oily I can fry chicken on it. My hair is curly/wavy. It tangles SO easy. It's ridiculous. A small blow of the wind and I have dreds. Anyhow, let's get back to the point; Since using this I've noticed less hair shedding. My hair is so untangled as well. I mean, I can actually run my fingers through it without it getting caught. My hair feels healthy. My curls look beautiful. Just for that I'd keep buying. (My hair is long as well, down to my waist) I'll give another update in a month. And then the next month. But so far, I'm very much enjoying it.

Iron Deficiency and fall out
I didn't want to review too early, but I felt it necessary as some other reviewers mentioned the same thing. (I will update my review once I have had a chance to use the product longer). MY HEALTH: I have iron deficiency anemia, vitamin D deficiency, amongst others that I've been diligently working on for the past 2.5 months with supplements to raise my levels to an optimal level (not just in range, but OPTIMAL). My major hair fallout began 9mo ago when my ferritin was 8. I didn't catch it in time, so I've probably lost about 50% of my hair now (started out with thick hair, however). My hair has receded back on my forehead as well. Not only do I have a lot of fall out, my hair wasn't growing back so I have shiny bald spots where I part my hair. THE PRODUCT: I have been using Nioxin System 4 for colour treated hair (shampoo, conditioner, foam treatment) for over a week, however, I do not wash my hair every day to prevent excess fall out. Nioxin provides mixed info on this topic. On the product it suggests to use it daily for best results, however, their website has articles and a blog about not washing hair often to prevent more damage and fall out, which is common sense. Regardless, I wash my hair every other day or every 3rd day with Nioxin and it's the only product I've been using in my hair (used it 3 or 4 times now). SHAMPOO: feels nice and lathers well, I use a silicone scalp massager that I bought on Amazon with it and leave the shampoo in for 5min or so. CONDITIONER: I then apply the conditioner which is so far an awful product. There is nothing conditioning about this product. It doesn't even detangle. In fact, it does the complete opposite. My hair feels like brittle horse hair after using. Conditioner generally makes the hair feel smooth and conditioned. This does not do either. It puts a weird texture on it when it's wet too. I leave that on for approx 5-10min. FOAM TREATMENT: Not a mousse (which would be easier to apply), but a light weight watery foam. I find it very difficult to apply this at the roots and work it to the ends as I have long hair and the product is so watery (even after shaking). Barely much comes out when you pump it. It's a small bottle, so I try not to use too much, however, I did once and it left my hair crunchy and weird at the roots and impossible to style the way I want. Not sure what this product does, but I will continue using. Wish the bottle was bigger as anyone with long hair will run out quickly. FALL OUT: I have MUCH more hair fall out both in the shower and trying to dry my tangly, brittle hair. I'm not happy at all with the way it leaves my hair when dry. I feel like it's making it more brittle, but I will trust that it takes more than a week to find out. Hopefully I'm not bald by the end of this. RESULTS SO FAR: Meh. Nothing to report other than having a heavy texture to my hair like each strand is coated, but it feels and looks like hay now and it still popping out by the root ball, so not working yet. I do see some baby hairs at my hair line on one side, but I'm taking vitamins too (iron, D3, magnesium, B12, Biotin, etc), so not sure what this is doing yet. I'll report back after 2mo...or however long this product lasts for me with mid-length hair. UPDATE JULY 27, 2021: I stopped using this system completely! I had my hair professionally dyed recently (just the roots to cover gray). I waited 4 days to wash my hair. After using the shampoo I noticed some black dripping down my body. Didn't really think it was my hair as that has never happened to me in my life and I've dyed by hair professionally for 30yrs. I then did a second rince and that's when I realized the hair dye was washing right out of my head!!! I am fuming. I pay over $150 to professionally have my hair dyed and the Nioxin product is so harsh, it removed the dye even though I waited FOUR DAYS to wash it. This Nioxin is for colour treated hair, but it is clearly NOT! Also of note, after stopping the use of this system and using a good conditioner, I came to realize that Nioxin is incredibly drying to the hair itself. My hair looked like horse hay using this product. After stopping it and going back to my regular shampoo which is a natural Avalon shampoo and conditioner, my hair is healthy looking again. I will never use this product again. I am extremely disappointed and want my money back, not to mention the cost of my salon visit.

It was open
I do not recommend this product at least from this seller. I got it today and opened the amazon box and low and behold all the containers were open and used. I saw the previous reviews but took a chance. Will be returning and going somewhere else. This is unacceptable.

More voluminous hair
I really was sceptical of this product, but after reading so many good reviews and seeing some great before and after videos, I decided I had to buy this and try it. I'm a bleach blonde with advanced hair loss, and system 6 seems to be doing the trick. Not only is my hair very smooth and tangle-free, but it's visibly thicker and more voluminous. I find the string minty smell very refreshing, and I really like the cooling sensation on my scalp after I rinse the conditioner out. I've taken a picture each week to see any progress, and the side by side is after my first application, week two and week 3.

The box was opened like others said
This review isn't for the Product Quality but for the mishandling and unprofessionalism of having the Box to the product opened and then 'taped closed'. This is idiotic with how rampant it is, I don't know if the bottles have been tampered with or used.

Worked for me
I have used it from July to now early Sept. it has made the hair on top on my head grow back. I had been using another shampoo system for past 8months that slowed down hair loss but didn’t promote new growth and stripped the colour out. This keeps the colour and new hair is slowly coming back
