Breakaway buckle releases too easily

I really like the look of this collar because it has that Japanese flair to it. But it was a bit stiff when purchased. The inside of the collar sort if felt like cardboard. The outside is definitely cotton material. I did not like the bell. So I removed it with some pliers and had it clasped back together. Then I stuck my kitten's ByteTag there instead. The breakaway buckle releases too easily. It breaks away when my kitten rolls in her sleep or when she is scratching her neck. She can easily snag this with her nails and run off. Kind if defeats the purpose of having the collar. I think it should only breakaway if there is enough force from getting snagged on something. I probably would like this product more if a different kind of breakaway buckle was used. I may just alter it.

super cute - BUT have thread and a needle, too

This collar is so super cute, and looks great on my cat! BUT after a while, the edge of one of the sides of the bow started coming apart and getting frayed. I repaired it with a needle and some thread.

my favorite collars!

this is calcifer's second collar from necoichi! i decided this style was my favorite for him, so i ordered the same one once the other had started to wear out. these collars are beautiful and very well made, and are my go-to as far as safety collars go! cal here is special needs and suffers from occasional seizures, so it pops right off in instances where he might get caught on himself or something in the room. he can be pretty rough and messy at times, so the collar can take a bit of a beating! his last collar lasted almost a year before the bow started falling apart ( he tries to clean it himself, so that could just be from the excessive licking ). his brothers also have necoichi collars, and i recommend them to my friends and coworkers when they're in the market for new necklaces for their furbabies! i'll be ordering again once my boys are in need of new jingly bowties! ✩

Great for cats used to collars!

First off, I have to point out that these collars are VERY well made. As a hobby costume maker (including authentic kimono!), I know good quality when I see it. They've got plastic clip closures that WILL release with extra pressure (so it's safe for kitty if they get snagged), the bow is sewn on, and the bow is also backed with a nice felt to help it keep its shape. Just remember, as well made as something can be, that doesn't mean it's cat proof! Even leather couches don't stand a chance against cat claws! I wouldn't say these are collars to give to cats not used to wearing collars. They won't stay cute for long otherwise. Example, I bought three of these for three cats! Only one of them has taken to it (the pictured one) because she's used to me putting a harness on her, while the other two flat out rejected and hated them (I'm gradually getting them used to it, tho). That said, they're pretty docile cats, so as much as they hate the collars, they're still in great condition. But overall, the fabric is lovely, and the bell is also sturdily held in place and chimes softly.

It does fray!

In other reviews I saw that these collars fray, it's true they do... It is just so cute that I had to buy it and I will again! My cat just bit it a lot the first day. The fraying occurred the second day, a little dissapointed but that was when she was adapting to it, as she had a flower collar before and did not like it at all! (Had to take off) I contest though that the first week was the limit of the fraying. It looks the same as it did when it first frayed and it sooo cute. I will definitely buy this collar again. The kimono material is sturdy and beautiful. It is a break away! I have a bow version of this collar and both of our cats have broken out of them while we were not home! I also tested before just to be safe. I love these collars and if your cat is very docile I do not think fraying will occur.

Couldn't stand the water fanatic

My boyfriend really loved this collar for his cat, but sadly the decorative bow didn't last long. The seams along the edge of the bow didn't stay together through the month, and had to be cut off because they were opening to show the stuffing inside. Aside from the bow failing to stay together, and the white color picking up a LOT of our cat's black hair, it's been durable, even lasting through a hot soak in laundry detergent to clean it which I was sure would ruin the moleskin. We're still using it, just minus the bow. Our cat may have caused the bow to fall apart, she likes playing in water, and the bow seemed to have been glued together and not sewn. It's likely the collar constantly being wet dissolved the glue, so it's not great for an outdoor cat or a cat with a thing for the toilet. It's beautiful and should last longer on a cat that doesn't enjoy diving into the loo.

Adorable!

The collar looks adorable on my cat! The white collar makes it stand out more from her fur, but hopefully it'll stay clean even though it's white. I like the safety lock and how much better it holds together than my last one. The last one kept falling out and unsnapping itself alot. This one seems better!

2nd purchase. Disappointed this time.

After a couple of years of daily wear, my cat’s orig. collar finally wore out. It was pretty and sturdy, and well-made, so i ordered a new one to replace it. I’m really disappointed in the new one. First collar was soft and flexible; this one is stiff. First one was stitched; this one is glued and “heat-bonded”. First one was rayon/poly crepe—silky-ish like real kimono fabric; this one is cheap, thin, loose-weave cotton. First one had a pretty painted bell; this one a plain “gold” one. Not ugly, but the other was such a nice finishing touch. The price was identical for both collars. But this one is much more cheaply made.

So Cute But...

It is so cute but the bow is starting to fall apart just a month after putting it on my cat :(. It also comes loose easily, so I have to tighten it once and a while. Otherwise it is a great collar and looks so cute on my cat.
