Some Good Some Bad
1 Water on vinyl hardwood floor 2 Boards double stacked-dry on top. Flir reading on dry board. 3 Flir reading 36 on wet spot. 4 Other meter reading 85.7 set to drywall also reads wet on other modes etc, hardwood. Tried different penetration depths, not much to talk about.. Its not good for determination of wet floor. Yes, it will read 4" depth in open air and also the numbers would be very low reading 0-3. EXAMPLE BELOW-JUST NOT BIG ENOUGH PERCENTAGE DIFFERENCE Flir-Vinyl Hardwood- Dry, Mounted on wood floor 28 Flir-Vinyl Hardwood -Wet, Mounted on wood floor 41 Flir-Vinyl Hardwood -Dry, Mounted on concrete floor 51 Flir-Vinyl Hardwood -Wet, Mounted on concrete floor 61 I would appreciate if anybody has better results with another pinless ball head, to comment. Still the best ball moisture meter I've seen even with the little difference from dry to wet percentage points as showed above in pictures.

Didn't think going with FLIR would be such a big let down...
First off, I am a home inspector and finding moisture intrusion in homes is a top priority for me and my inspectors. I currently carry the E6 Thermal-cam (which I love and use at each inspection). I have been looking to upgrade my $40 moisture meter that I carry, for some time now and when I saw the MR59, I could not wait to have it on my tool belt! The MR59 comes with some cool features and is a great looking device, unfortunately, I found the readings to be arbitrary and unreliable, for example: Putting the ball probe up to a plaster wall that I am 100% certain is dry, might produce a reading of 37, ok fine. Not 37% moisture, just 37. Now my understanding is that this is what Flir calls a "relative" reading. First of all relative to what? And when I put the probe up to a plaster wall that I am 100% certain has moisture behind it, I might get a reading 63. Ok great, now I know one wall is more wet than the other (which I already knew before I spent $200) but how am I supposed to come to any sort of diagnostic conclusion based on the information the device provides?? If 37 represents a material that is dry, then how wet is a reading of 63??? Other dry surfaces may produce a reading of 0, which is fine considering some building materials naturally have lower/higher moisture content than others. But since Flir doesn't provide any sort of info or chart to indicate high/low readings from one material to the next, the thing really just leaves you guessing.

Strong 3 in depth penetration but will detect hand and metal
As an expert this maybe the best non penetrative moisture meter on the market. Extremely sensitive and would highly recommend you calibrate while having your hands placement where you are going to take readings or you will get incorrect readings.

Not great
I love the design of these pinless ball type meters but I am not very impressed with this moisture meter. I have been getting a lot of false readings. The unit continues to beep even when not in contact with substrates. I am considering returning it, I expected more from Flir my old Extech functioned more accurately.

Nice unit. Simple to use.
I am pretty impresed with the unit. I have 2 other make and mod but this is the easiest one to use. No more holes in drywall or trims.

Not accurate. Not long enough or comes with an included extension.
It was not accurate at all in relation to my Survey Master Protimeter (Nest Certified), which is also pen less. The MR59 is quality built and had a big readout with backlighting. The neck of the probe could also be longer - that’s in the description which a failed to read prior to purchase. I purchased it to obtain readings at eaves and facia boards using a ladder and in for the crawlspace wood members, in hopes to a little more distance while on ladder and in the crawl. For the price, an extension to the ball probe should be included, the one installed should be longer. Save you money and purchase the Survey Master, so you will be able to get invasive and non-invasive read outs with memory...it’s worth it and comes with accessories. Hope this helps. If the the Flir MR50 makes improvements to the aforementioned, I may consider purchasing again for another tool in the bag.

Easy to use
FLIR makes great products and this meter is no exception. The sensor is easier to use in tight conditions than traditional pad style moisture meters

Really wanted to like this but....
Great idea and thought it would be a perfect partner to my FLIR E8 but the readings were too inconsistent and because of the inconsistency it couldn't be trusted. No mechanism to zero the reading or recalibrate, put it next to a totally saturated piece of wood and it read 62, should have been closer to 100... Great idea, but flawed.

Works well. Quick Responds. None contact required.
