I used 3 of these to illuminate the interior of an upright safe. My alternative was to install 110V strip lighting, which would be very involved. The 20 seconds "on" time is no problem at all, as it takes very little motion to activate. The light output is not tremendous, but in the world of "no light", it is king! Not an issue in this application. I can't see using these in moderate light situations, they are just not that bright. But as safety lights in the dark - great. I used the tape mounting system included for a very easy installation. However, the top mounted horizontal position light would fall off after a few days from the felt lining of my safe. I used some additional double sided tape to solve that problem. Five AA batteries are not included for each light and I would recommend lithium batteries, because they are not as prone to leaking. I expect the batteries to be in for a very long time. When time to change batteries, very easy to do without disrupting the taped on base. I recommend these for an application that requires a narrow footprint. Some of the similar round fixtures would not have worked as well in my project.

Work Great But, Do Not Last Long
I purchased numerous light strips to place on my stair case in a very old home which was dimly lit. Initially I thought they were great. The motion detectors were what seemed to be excellent as they would light up the next stair step before leaving the step I was on. The lights were brilliant enough to show everything - even a speck of dust in our dark wooden staircase. I was not certain exactly where I wanted to place each light strip so I set one along each side of a step, but did not screw them in or attach them with the double sided tape. Turns out I'm really glad I did not drill the screws into the walls. After a couple of days we left to go to a second home and did not return until the following week. In less than ten days time, all of the batteries were dead and not one single light came on. Each strip requires 5 AAA batteries. I know they were not activated while I was away and assume the battery usage is due to the motion detectors. There is no switch to turn them on or off. I have 17 steps therefore I need 85 batteries to change them out. I bought new ones because we are hosting a party this week and the guest bedrooms are all upstairs. I spent nearly $100.00 to change out the old ones. Until I can find a better solution, I think the best thing to do is take one battery out until we have guest coming to visit. If you don't need many and you do not plan to use them for any length of time you might want to buy them along with rechargeable batteries and a charger.

Verify it is working properly
I ordered 4 and 3 worked as advertised. One stayed on the minute I put in batteries and never shutoff. I tested in pantry where I planned to install it but found the lights never shutoff. Perhaps this is the reason other customers complaint that their batteries had a short life.

LED strip light
Have a closet with no interior light, so I thought a battery operted LED would 'illuminate' the issue. The fact it had a motion sensor, so it would only come on when needed was a plus. Well, my friends, DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE! For $20, I don't expect much, but this piece of China made effluvium was less than I bargained for. Cheaply made, requiring 4 AAA batteries, that are hard to install and a defective motion sensor had me returning it to Amazon for a refund within 3 weeks. The sensor apparently malfunctioned, since after the first day I had to replace the batteries (which were fresh Energizers). A week later, I had to replace them again. Heck, the replacing the batteries probably cost me more than the light strip. I will be 'bright' enough next time I ned a LED light to pay more for quality.

Great Light for Small Space
My husband bought a couple of these about 4 years ago for my small pantry. They are motion activated and work great. I recently dropped and broke one while changing the batteries. I ordered another one because I really missed it not being in my pantry.

Battery Drain
Seemed to work great out of the box with a fresh set of batteries, but after only 1 week the batteries ran dead with the light turning on only 1-2x per day. I will be returning the item. **update** Returned item and purchased these two items which are each 4x less in price: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00553X96Y/ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005F1JLO0/ Both are inside of a safe, the DekCell seems to work best as far as auto-on when the safe door opens in complete darkness. Both have a light sensitivity adjustment control. Both have been going strong for over two months on the same batteries with daily use. I believe it was the DekCell that was shipped directly form China, so it took a bit longer for shipping.
