It works. Little awkward.
Liked that it was small. Little awkward to look @ my thumb when I had a splinter in it I wa trying 2 remove.

Very close to what I used to use.
I used to use one of these to center the beam on a CO2 cutting laser. This one is slightly larger and can be used to create an ember via solar ignition.

Multiple uses for this tool - LT80 Review
I've used the Carson Metal LinenTest Glass Magnifier LT-80 for several different projects AND some surprise uses. Outside of the normal intended use... I found other uses. Other uses: 1.) If you need to take a picture of something magnified... you can use this and take a picture through the magnifier. This worked well when I noticed an issue with damage on the outside body of a Flamenco Guitar. I Was able to Magnify the problem area and send the picture to the company. 2.) Removing splinters from people's fingers - Weed thorns, glass, or other things stuck in the skin. 3.) I've also used this device to help me see the nut grooves in guitar nuts. Again... other magnifiers can do this... but I found it very handy to place on the area of the guitar and was able to easily see what I needed to see before I started work. Obviously you can do this with other magnifiers... but the small form factor makes it easy. Hey... if you already have it, you might as well use it for what you can! The unit I bought is well made. The folding hinges work well - not too sticky or too loose / floppy. This is the 2nd one I bought... I lost the 1st one and thought this was handy enough to replace it.

Thread stitch counter.
The markings under the magnifying glass made it easier to count the stitches.????

Great super inexpensive way to get critical focus on ground glass for large format photography
I already had a fairly high end focusing loupe for this task, but heard about people using these and wanted to try it since I'm trying to shave weight off my large format kit. It works about 99% as well as my nice loupe for the task of getting critical focus on the ground glass. Folds up nice and flat and weighs practically nothing. I'm going to drill a hole in part of it and hang it on a lanyard around my neck while I'm shooting.

Fantastic Magnifiers
We've been using Carson in the printing industry for a while. With the budget price, I had worried that the ones available on Amazon would be poor quality. I have ordered a few, obviously non-branded, magnifiers and found their quality to be ok, but their indicated magnification was completely wrong and exaggerated. These Carson ones cost just a bit more, but the brand is legitimate and all the items I've ordered from them have been high quality and accurately represented. We've used the plastic ones to inspect our print for quality and defects and found them to be great. These metal ones are no different, but have a metal frame. The base is square while the magnifier lens is encased in a round head for reasons I cannot explain. I actually worry a bit more about these, as they are heavier and might break the lense easier than the plastic ones if you drop them. Quotes from our suppliers have been upwards of $30/40, so these are a perfect option for our inspection needs.

It’s not original Carson lens. Is an unbranded and the needle thread doesn’t slide properly.
This is an unbranded product. The sliding pin won’t work.

Good
Purchased to use as a film loupe for some 16mm films. Works great for that, nice and clear image and very compact when folded

excellent quality, works well for detail craftwork
It's tiny, but substantial, excellent quality, works well for detail craftwork. The base folds and stands the other way, too, so it won't interfere with what you're working on. I'd like another one like this but bigger.

Very happy with it
For under 10 bucks I picked up two and they're fantastic. I use them to examine negatives over a backlight.
