Handy Reading enhancers
I bought 3 cheap reader enhancers on Amazon as I have Macular Degeneration and was really pleased that I now have these. Just after having bought these, Later I was taken to a specialised shop in Seattle for vision, as I wanted to find out if there were other contraception’s that maybe I should also get, but a similar range, with maybe 1 item I had missed, and some way more expensive items which I will comment on later. I bought 3 items, all at a great price between 8 and 12 $ each.: 1) Carson Multi-Power LED Lighted Pocket Magnifier (PM-33) 8$ 2) UltraOptix LED Lighted Folding Magnifier 3x 12$ 3) Mighty Bright Rigid Page Magnifier ( rigid – full page) 8$ The first 2 are similar, with the Carson pocket magnifiers probably being my preference as it is much lighter, thinner, and fits neatly in a pocket ( my breast pocket), At last at a restaurant, I can easily flip it out and read the menu, even in dim lighting conditions. I am super pleased. The Carsons also has a more modern look, as it is not so obvious you have a magnifying glass as the Ultraoptix . The Ultra optix folding Magnifier his much bigger, thicker, and while the lense is way bigger, it actually does not make that much of a difference. Maybe if you only had the 2 (Carson & Ultra Optix) , then for reading the bigger Ultraoptix would be good, but read on. For details, the Carosns switch is smaller and more difficult to get put “ON” by accident, but it does have special batteries, which cant be re-charged, so may be more expensive in the long run. Will have to wait and see how long the batteries last. Not too sure if I will use the 2 additional small higher magnifying screens on Carsons often,( at one side ), but if you are not getting a small character, for which you wish a greater magnification it is right there, and you don’t have to lift the magnifying, and hence the light does not go dimmer, (for MD a good light is essential). The Mightly Bright rigid page Magnifier is just great when you wish to read a magazine or a book, as you can see several columns at the same time, and if you are a fast reader, you can skip down paragraphs easily without getting lost. There is no light on the rigid full page magnifier, (uses a Fresnel system) so you need to get good lighting, which is not a problem at home. It is very light, but still does a great job. ( I am delighted with IKEA’s small let light for about 12 CAD each!, a powerful and concentrated light on a flexible tube about 18 in long) I was concerned about scratching the big flat plastic sheet, but actually just put in inside the pages of a magazine, and bingo, it is protected. No need to have a special cover. Next and future wishes. I saw Carson ezRead Visual Aide Magnifier (DR-200) at 73 $, but it is not wireless, so having wires linked to say an Ipad or tablet is not on, and it have the wrong connections for a tablet! But am pretty sure that soon we will se something come. I also say in the specialised shop fancy system that looked like a camera above a PC screen, which then was linked to the screen and you could magnify at the level you wished. ( you have the page flat on the desk, and see the text on screen, BUT the price was horrendous! 2000$. A straight small digital camera cost 100$ and a fixture to the screen would do the job at way less!! There were also small 3inx 7 in screens similar to a smart phone in apparence, which worked like a digital camera with a huge screen, and a few add-ons like convert a black print on white paper to yellow text on blue background, but these were also in the 500 + $ range, not that cost/benefit enough for me. Finally, in the shop, there was also a magnifying glass similar to UltraOptix, but where the distance to the page was fixed by a “box” which you place on the paper and slide along.. This is not something you would want to take out of the house, but may decrease the arm fatigue of holding a small light glass at the right distance from what you are reading. It was also much more that the 10 $ range.

get AAA batteries which are not provided
It is discounted for prime and probably because the batteries are not included, the lens is small and 3X might work for some purposes...this is the 4th lighted magnifier I have purchased on amazon. The first was an LED lamp which is about 2 years old, uses almost no power and falls over because of a base that never really assembled correctly. The LEDs are about to die, they flicker on but I still prefer the original LED floor lamp and look forward to more LED floor lamps perhaps with better aesthetic appeal. The second is a fluorescent on wheels that provides very good light and magnification for sewing and reading, but looks like it belongs in a dental office. I avoid fluorescent light for health reasons. I am hyperacute and the fluorescent bulbs emit what for me is an audible buzz, which bothers me if I use it for more than an hour at a time. So it's okay for a short reading or sewing session. And in my kitchen, fluorescent bulbs were installed in the prefab ceiling, so I do not yet have a LED replacement tube to fit that prefab 1975 fixture. I have been writing about LEDs as replacement for incandescent bulbs since about 2010. The obvious benefit is the LED drain less energy, last longer. The less obvious health benefit is they do not emit the "buzz" which may affect the health in ways unseen. So I would not buy another #2. #3 was a visor with rectangular lenses that came in a case. The visor has a bulb somewhere and it might work for someone who deals with jewelry but it was clumsy for my use of the sewing machine, the floor lamp magnifier works best for that, I can roll it over to the machine or take my work to my desk. So this was #4, I wanted a larger handheld magnifier that I can take over to whatever I am doing to look at 2" or so. I cannot evaluate it fully without the battery. I will endeavor to edit this review to four star or above if the battery/light make a difference. I like the folding hand. It's too small to use for reading fine print on contracts. It might be good for examining stamps, coins, jewelry, something small. It is light-weight and will fit in a shirt pocket. I think the price should be somewhere between what I paid and what the original price was but should include at least one AAA battery, a size I do not normally have in the house (I have lantern batteries, D, C, AA). The package was not what I would call "frustration free" but no different from usual packaging from mass produced items. Overall if it works with a bright LED light, it's worth the price paid. I was surprised it came on a Saturday (within 2 days of the order or less) with coffee, a thermometer, some beer-making malt...which tells me many are sold at this price, so I will give *** upfront before getting the AAAs in the next shipment because it's here and it appears to be as described. I think even if it is fantastic I would not give more than **** because for a disabled person using amazon to avoid going out, not giving me one battery with a device that requires a battery is somewhat thoughtless. I cannot buy one battery, I have to buy 10 batteries, wait at least 3 days to use the first device, etc. It is equally my responsibility to read the product description to see somewhere (?) it must say "needs AAA not provided" but I missed it. My bad. I still deduct a star because Az makes batteries with its name on them and guarantees this device but provides no battery despite super-fast shipping, when it could charge one dollar more and put a battery in there in consideration of someone who does not go shopping for batteries easily or often.

Great!
I had one of these and used it when a friend came over. She liked it so much, I ordered one for her and for another friend for Christmas.

... magnify one way or another the rectangular ones work best for me
At 78 I am having some vision problems and read a lot and have used various magnifiers and find that while they all magnify one way or another the rectangular ones work best for me. I can easily read on my Kindle by changing the font but have problems with newspapers, magazines etc. I got the Carson today and SHAZAM ! it works perfectly as described. So I have ordered two more to put in strategic placed around the house. Considering how useful it is in comparing it to others, It's a great price too. I have no problems with it's construction and the led lights are very convenient. I see one customer had a problem with battery replacement and I agree it looks like it may be a problem due to the very tiny screw holding the battery cover. Luckily I have a few for when the time comes.

My prefered magnifier for every day use
I have several similar magnifiers, and this is the one that I prefer. There are other, smaller that fit in a shirt pocket, so better when going out, but now I have 2 of these on hand, so I can easily reach for them at home. quick delivery, and the additional light is useful.

LIGHTED READING MAGNIFIER (MJ-50)
This product is everything that I was looking for in a reading magnifying glass. It is a perfect size for book pages and the folding handle is just the right configuration. The LED light is a great option when there is low room ambient light.
