I rate it one Star because of damage and not a clearly thought out design but there is instructions in how to make it 5 Star rating! Continue reading please My - Complete Oxygenation System with the Pump for Homebrew - by LD Carlson that I received was damaged at two main points involving the aquarium line hoses connecting to the large round white air filter. At both of these points the hose was kinked flat. And even after cutting the ends off that were kinked and after a bear of a job reattaching them ( don't do this step just send it back)--(I should have ) I got the hoses reattached and even after soaking the Stainless steel oxygen diffuser stone in warm water solution could not get no air to come out of the DF. stone ?? What I did next was to test the pump for air production and the pump works well blowing bubbles in the water...evidently air/fluid dynamics were not employed properly and is probably also the reason other aeration system pumps being sold on Amazon don't work well in this price range either. (Now how to fix it ! ) F.Y.I. In order for a diffuser to work there needs to be a check valve installed a least a foot away from the pump. You can find one at Walmart's pet department and the part is made by :Aqua Culture It is a one-way check valve and is sold for a $1.87 ...The Walmart's part number is 079285405138 then just follow instructions on pkg. and install on the tubing with white arrow facing way from pump and toward the hose going to the diffuser stone and your aeration pump system will work ! (Also you do not need the round white air filter part) although you can use it still...you don't need it is because the pump itself has a little felt washer the filters air going into the pump that will need to cleaned or replaced from time to time - Now you have a 5 star system - thank you LD -Carlson for the experience in solving and fixing this product.

Great price, but may require fixing.

Unfortunately, I used this on a batch of wort without testing it first. The bubbling seemed really anemic. When I tested it in a clear glass in water, sure enough, barely any bubbling. I hope the yeast got enough oxygen. Fortunately, I read another review where someone disassembled the pump and slightly bent the rocker arm with the magnet back. Tested it out, and night and day difference - lots of bubbles! I think this is a great deal, but seems highly likely any given unit will need to be repaired to work properly, so I only gave it 3 stars.

Had to buy a new stone

The pump worked but the stone was clogged from the beginning. I tried boiling, baking, and soaking in sanitizer and nothing worked to unclog it. Update: bought a new stone and it worked fine. I give it 4 stars not 5 since the original stone didn’t work.

Works as advertised

Started an apple cider just to test this out. Let it aerate for about 35 minutes before pitching the yeast, and three hours later the brew is aggressively fermenting. It appears to have worked brilliantly, though I will need to make more brews to confirm this. Did come with some kinks in the line, but it was probably from transit and does not appear to be hampering the system in any major fashion.

Works great, but with a few extra steps

The first time I used it I was not happy with the results. But after reading some reviews I decided to try a few things. I tried the check valves that some people suggested but they did nothing. I also tried removing the filter, but that didn't improve air flow next batch. What I found works is to put the stone in boiling water with the pump running, then put it directly into the wort without shutting off the pump. I had it foaming out of the fermenter.

Pumps oxygen into liquid

Initially, all I was getting was a single stream of small bubbles which wasn't what I expected. Placing the hose in water without the diffusion stone blew bubbles so I bought another diffusion stone and now I have a steady stream of multiple bubbles as desired. And no, I didn't handle the first stone with bare hands.

Works perfectly, just make sure you don't ruin the air stone

There's a lot of negative reviews for this kit, but mine worked without issues out of the box. I suspect people are making some common mistakes and ruining their equipment. Namely: - Make sure you put the HEPA filter on the right way (there's a label on one side that indicates the flow direction) - Make sure you don't touch the air stone with your bare hands (the air stone is 0.5 microns and the oils in your skin will clog the stone almost immediately. I have ruined more than one 0.5 micron air stone this way - Make sure you turn the pump on BEFORE you drop it in the wort, and keep it plugged in until you've cleaned the air stone - If the air stone is clogged, try boiling it in a strong PBW/Straight-A solution for 5-10 minutes
