Two varieties of this great product
This is a good basic thermometer for a gauge of your brewing temperature. An accidental discovery I made about this product may clarify an inconsistency I noted in other reviews. There are two different versions of this product. The attached image shows the difference. One version of this product is identical to the one pictured in the Amazon web page product image with a temperature range of 39 - 82'F (4 - 28'C). This version measures more precisely with temperature variations of 1 - 2'F. The second version of this product has a temperature range of 39 - 97'F (4 - 36'C). This version measures less precisely with temperature variations of 3 - 4'F. Different sellers have different versions. I received both versions buying on Amazon.com. Ordinarily I would not name specific sellers but this is the only way I can identify how I got each version. The 39 - 82'F version was sold by Amazon.com LLC and the 39 - 97'F version was sold by Quality Quick Ship on the Amazon site. The second picture is the packaging for each one. With that distinction being made, my opinion about the function of the product is that either one is a good thermometer depending on your needs. My purpose is to use it on a brewing jar for kombucha. Though I am a novice at home brewing kombucha, I have gotten better results with a brew temperature in the mid to upper 80 degree range on the thermometer. The 39 - 97'F version sold by Quality Quick Ship is better suited to this need. The SCOBY is forming faster, growing thicker and the tea is fermenting quicker for better tasting kombucha. These thermometers are reasonably accurate gauges for the tea temperature. They are not precision instruments nor highly accurate. My limited experience in brewing in kombucha has shown it is not a highly sensitive process like beer or wine. A clean environment, room temperature (or warmer) and oxygen is sufficient for making delicious kombucha. The temperature on the first few batches I made was in the 68 - 72'F range. With winter coming, I was concerned about the brew temperature decreasing so I decided to experiment. I purchased theBrew Fermentation Heating Belt, 1-Count and plugged it into a timer. There are more expensive heating options but I did not think it necessary to spend that much for basic heating. The strip thermometer and timer allowed me to achieve an average temperature in the high 80's. The timer turns on and off multiple times a day. This moderates the fluctuation to closer mimic a constant temperature. I have found this thermometer to be an affordable, accurate tool to monitor the brewing temperature. The quality of the kombucha I am making has improved as a result of it. It is an excellent product for a great price. Find something else if you require high precision or accuracy. I bought more of them from Quality Quick Ship because I like their version and was pleased with their service. [I purchased all aforementioned items at full price through Amazon.com. No discounts, free merchandise or any other kind of incentive was made to me to try these products.]

I want them on all my fermenting vessels!
Ive got at least 6 of these and will likely get a few more, so that all my carboys and primary fermenters have thermometers on them. yeah they are not super accurate, but they get you with in a few degrees so you know you're in the ball park. honestly ball park is all you need. they fit great on most carboys. I can relate to the review of the person who had problems with the ribs on the carboy. Its not a problem on 5 or 6 gallon carboys, but on a 3 gallon carboy I had to cut the bottom two degrees off. not a big deal, I wont go that low anyhow. but by cutting it down a little, it fits nice and flush on a ribbed 3 gallon and does not effect the rest of the strip. I have not had a problem with them coming off, even with washing them. as with any sticker if you just rub them hard with the back of your fingernail, it will create a better contact, especially on glass. Plastic buckets are a no brainer and stick just fine. the range is perfect for what wines I make. If its hotter or colder, chances are you will know that just by feel, and should be relocating or adjusting your thermostat anyhow. if you do multiple batches at the same temperature, you could get by with having just one in each group. For me, I find them useful to have on all my vessels, especially when you start moving to fresh carboys and reusing carboys, or buckets for other batches. I use them on my buckets, 1 gallon glass bottles, 3 gallon, 5 gallon and 6 gallon carboys.

Helped me establish the ideal baseline temperature for my Kombucha tea brew.
I adhered one of these strip thermometers to a gallon jar of Kombucha tea while it was brewing to determine the average daily temperature of the brew. It appears to have performed perfectly. It must be said that the strip thermometer is not meant for transfer to another container, as portions of it will not pull off the container when you remove it. I do not consider this a flaw because the temporary application of this thermometer to one of the Kombucha tea culturing containers have given me a dependable range of temperatures that my Kombucha brews will reach when set atop heating mats. FYI the maximum temperatures displayed for the container (a gallon size Anchor Hocking Heritage Hill candy jar) was a constant 79º F.

Doesn't stick very well to a ribbed carboy.
I bought 2 of these. I used one on a smooth sided glass carboy and it has worked perfectly. I used the other on a "ribbed" glass carboy that has some raised hemispherical lines of glass running across the sides. There wasn't a flat spot big enough to place the thermometer so I had to stick it across one of the ribs. Before I even got through 1 brew in that carboy the thermometer was coming unstuck. I think the thermometer has a significantly different rate of thermal expansion than the glass, and the ribs are an ideal unsticking spot. This is a real bummer because it seems like most 5 and 6 gallon carboys have these ribs now.

Faint but readable
Works well but can be hard to see. Sometimes it is distinguishable and other times very faint. I'm not sure if this has to do with the temperature range changing and re-registering or what? Overall, it is giving accurate readings and is useful for what I need it for; random monitoring of fermenting Kombucha.

Great product. Must have for home brewing.
Strip Thermometers came as described. I have used them in the past along with an infared handheld thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature of my wines throughout the fermentation process. Great alternative to a handheld, and also prevents you from needing to submerge a thermometer into your wine and risking potential contamination.

Easy to read
Accurate enough for a strip reading. Photo does not show temperature because it was over 100degrees F that day. If you are brewing in a darkened room the temperature will not be easily read. Keep flashlight handy or turn on the lights. Seems to be waterproof

It works
I basically use this as a guide for an approximate temperature.
