I got this to use especially for cutting fabric only. I have another one just for cutting paper. Will use this for the appliques that I will soon be making. I just wanted to up date here about the deep cut blade. I am still using my original one that I got with my machine. I have the Brother scan n cut cm550dx. When I purchased that one I got a lot of accessories with it. I have been cutting craft foam about 1/8 inch thick by 6inches wide by 9inches long. I am using my deep cutting blade. I wanted to make stamps from some of the patterns found within my Brother cut n scan. I found a tutorially on how to do it. I followed the instructions for the blade depth and the pressure depth. For me it was to much blade and pressure so I had to make adjustments. I also found that my standard blade would cut the foam if I set up to something like depth 10 or 11 and set the cut pressure at 10. However when I tried this with my deep cut blade I cut right through my standard mat. I used duct tape on the back to fix but it did not really do that well. When I started to make a new cut the mat slide to the side and my cuts came out bad so I had to readjust everything and use a side that was not cut and duck taped. Because it is craft foam I really needed to use my deep cut blade. My settings are on 8 3/4 or almost 9 for my blade and my cut pressure is set to 7. I had to make many test cuts to get it right. I cut out about 12 stamps designs and 8 backings to place the stamps on. For me with these settings everything cut really well. I missed out here on getting the deep cut blade when I ordered some new mats. I had to order a standard mat to replace the one I cut up. The price here for the deep cut and standard blades are very reasonable in comparison to what I have see elsewhere. I see most reviews are dated 2014. I know these are mostly old reviews here now for the deep cut blade. If you see this review and want to comment on please do. If you are interested in cutting foam and are not quit sure how to do it. Do and test cut first. This way you will not get scoring or you will not cut your mat up like I did mine. You will always have to set the depth cut for any of the blades along with the cut pressure. I think that is what the main problem is people are forgetting to change the cut pressure. First check to see what thickness can be cut via your instruction manual. I really like my machine and once I set it correctly it cuts fine and all is good.

Standard blade on the box but vinyl blade in the packagr
In the photo the blade on the left is a standard blade. The blade on the right is what came in the box and is a vinyl blade. At least we can use the blade in the future, if needed. Please buy from a Brother dealer.

Just what I was looking for
This is the deep cut version of the Brother ScanNCut blade and just what I needed. Very pleased with these blades. I do wish the blade and the holder came in one package, but that's probably because you only need to buy the holder once. Let Amazon donate to your favorite charity! Extra mat for my Brother Scan N Cut machine
First off, I love the Brother Scan N Cut machine but, there are a few minor negatives. One is that the cutting pad sheets are not really that tacky. I solved my problem by using a low tack tape on the corners of the paper I wanted to cut. Easy peasy, problem gone. I bought this sheet so I had an extra one in case I ruined the one that came with the machine. (So far, I haven't had to use it.) There is a bit of a learning curve in what to set the blade depth at and I've read that some have accidently cut through the mat. I haven't done that yet so hope I won't. You can tape the back side of your mat if you do cut through. Another downside to these mats is their price point and availability. Sorry Brother, but they are kind of spendy and it was hard to get one before Christmas.

Great for cutting fabric.
I prefer Brother’s Name brand products. I primarily use these for cutting out fabric Appliques. They work great. I press Heat and Bond on backside of fabric ( don’t remove paper), then lay fabric right side up on mat and cut. I remove paper as I’m pressing them to my background fabric
