Flawed Setup Instructions
The lock works great, but beware of errors in the initial setup instructions that come with the lock. The instructions clearly states that during the initial “handing” process (where it tries to detect whether it is installed in a left hand or right hand orientation) that the indicator light will turn “green” for success or “red” for an error. Every time I follow the instructions to the letter to perform the “handing” procedure the light turns amber (which is neither red or green) and pressing the Kwikset button on the lock to test locking the deadbolt results in 3 error beeps. I returned the first lock because I couldn’t ever get a green light after performing the handing process. When the replacement lock came and did the exact same thing, I suspected the instructions were wrong. Amber after the “handing” process = success. However, the Kwikset button will not lock the deadbolt until at least 1 user code has been entered. The instructions do not mention this anywhere (in addition to being wrong about the indicator color for successful handing). I had to experiment based on my experience with previous Kwikset Z-Wave locks to figure this out. Once I added the first user code, everything worked perfectly.

So happy with them
We ordered this for a garage door so we could easily lock and unlock for added security. Installation was super fast and easy. The locks are solid and look great. They integrate perfectly with our Ring system and work like a charm. We are so disappointed we didn't install them years ago!

Amazing.
Installed this on an ancient door with a 5" backset. Managed to find an aftermarket Kwikset backset that I feared wouldn't fit with this, but it actually fit perfectly. I bought this one in particular because of the straight forward design and compatibility with Ring via the Z-Wave technology. This has single-handedly made getting in and out of my house easier and also more secure, given the automatic functionalities that can be set in conjunction with the Ring system, being able to give dogwalkers and family members their own codes in case of emergency, and not needing to fumble for my keys when my hands are occupied with groceries, two small dogs, or what have you. Can't recommend this smart deadbolt enough.

Slightly confusing install, but it works well.
For those of you installing this, there's a part where it says you get a green light or a red light. If you get the red light you have to retry until it's green. However, like another reviewer, I got an ORANGE light. Nowhere does it talk about an orange light. So I spent a long time trying to troubleshoot and figure out how to fix it. Well, I gave up and just decided to try to finish the set up with the orange light. And guess what, it worked like a charm. Moral of the story, if you get an orange light treat it like a green light.

I went for vacation and forgot to lock the door in the rush to get out the door. My alarm.com showed it was not locked. This is fantastic! Thank you smart home devices!!

Backwards Compatible with Kwikset Hardware
This was my second electronic lock installation in as many weeks. As I already knew what I was doing, the installation was easier than the first. I DID re-use the existing bolt mechanism, as the backset was already set appropriately and it was mortised into the door. Setting up the codes and interface with my home automation was easy. CAUTION: it will not let you set the access code to the same digits as are used in any other Kwikset device linked to your automation hub. Something to consider: most 911 services will accept the access code during a call for assistance and then transmit it securely to responding units (our county is to a secure laptop on board the responding unit) and enable their entry to the premises. A good feature if you live alone or are incapacitated and cannot get to the front door to let them in.

Works great. Works with super old smarthings just fine once you find the settings.
We had an old first generation smart things hub i dug out from a box, and it connected no problem. You do NOT need any other apps than Smart Things any more. But after being setup, the set and remove codes settings are really really hard to find in the app. It is under Life, Locks( down arrow). Very happy with it so far.

I have a more traditional style for my front door so I was concerned about how this device might look, but it looks great. The functionality is great and I don't have to keep fumbling with my keys.

Should not be sold in Australia
I purchased this item through Amazon without realising that it was not only unsuitable for the Australian market but absolutely illegal to use here. It's set up to the US Z Wave frequency, rather than the Australian one. Completely unsatisfactory, and I only discovered this AFTER fitting the lock. For my trouble, Amazon gave me a $30 voucher to repair the hole in my door. Again, completely unsatisfactory. It's a real shame, the lock itself seems well made and the instructions are excellent. It's very easy to fit in comparison with a lot of other similar locks.
