Easy to use great for estimating square footage

I use this everyday for work to measure houses, attached structures, detached structures etc.

Komelon Measuring Wheel

This is a pretty good measuring tool. The advantage of the large wheel (actually oversized when compared to similar tools with smaller sized wheels) is it'll cover rough terrain more easily, not just hard flat surfaces. The mechanical (analog) versus digital counter translates to no additional features/options but also does not require batteries - a plus in my books! The 4-star rating is for its overall quality which is not too bad but not worthy of 5-star rating. The 'kick stand' is not very good. Not sure how long it will last. The extension wand/handle works pretty well. I particularly like the fact that the wheel is made of solid tough polystyrene material - no rubber rim to worry about wear and tear. The analog counter actually measures down to a fraction of a foot and appears to be reasonably accurate, unlike some measuring wheels with magnetic sensors that only count the number wheel rotations. The counter and housing are not of the highest quality - I would say it is about average in construction and material as most measuring wheels go. The product's website does not boast a weather proof/resistant housing. Unlike several other companies' products, Komelon seems to specialize in measuring tools which earns slightly higher trust on my part. Since the wheel is much larger than most, it is more bottom heavy compared to smaller sized measuring wheels. The wand and handle appear a bit undersized in terms of control and maneuverability as compared to Keson MP401E, for example, which appears better constructed but also costs twice as much. Komelon has another product virtually identical to this except it is in metric units. Buyer should be aware and careful when ordering so as not to purchase the wrong product. The first unit I received was the metric product as opposed to imperial (feet) units but that was a packaging error on the part of Komelon. Amazon promptly replaced it with the proper order. At the price point, I think the product deserves 4-stars overall. A more solid kick-stand and counter construction would have earned it 5-stars. A very useful and recommended tool nevertheless.

Kickstand design majorly flawed

I've been through two of these in two months. The problem is that the kickstand, while metal, is attached to the plastic body with very small brittle plastic supports. Even with being very very careful with this unit, the kickstand WILL break. Once the kickstand is no longer attached by even one of the two little plastic joints it will just flail around and get in your way requiring it to be removed entirely. Without a kickstand you've got to drop the handle and pick it up between each measurement, which adds time and slows down work.

Thoughtful Design, But...

Pros: With the Komelon MK6012 Meter-Man 19-Inch Measuring Wheel, Komelon has answered most of the deficiencies of previous measuring wheels we have used. * The 19" diameter wheel gives the ability to traverse rougher terrain more comfortably and accurately than smaller wheels, yet it is not so big as to be unwieldy in its size. * It is made of durable, light-weight material. * The color is both attractive and provides extra visibility. * The counter is gear driven from the axle providing several advantages over the clicker type: --> It provides more accuracy measuring in feet and inches. --> It has an easy one push reset to zeros (no winding). --> There are no "clicker" pins sticking out of the wheel itself to fall out and be lost or damage nearby items. --> Because the counter is not near the wheel surface - the wheel doesn't jam up when a small pebble is picked up by adhering to wetter soils. --> It counts to 10,000 feet instead of just 1,000. --> The counter works in reverse if you need to go back to a point that was passed. --> The counter is silent. * The wheel turns very easily. * The handle shaft telescopes for storage - instead of folding, making for a stronger connection - as folding handles are problematic being a weak point at best, and prone to complete failure because of breakage or lost parts. * The handle grip is comfortable. * It even has a hinged kickstand to minimize damage to the device while making it easier to use. * Measures in smaller units (inches) than the clicker style measuring wheels. Metric version available as well. Cons - After a few years of use on the three units purchased: * Smaller units are inches - need tenths of a foot for Civil work. * Kickstand easily breaks apart and becomes useless. * Does not work at all in certain temperatures below freezing - even pulling from warm dry vehicle at -40F it stopped working almost immediately. * The counter unit made of mostly plastic inside and out are not durable... One units counter enclosure separated at the seam and all the parts fell out. * Counter is not sealed... over time it skips or mis-counts and makes noise. Spraying some lube on moving parts and inside counter unit seems to fix it for a time.

19 inch Komelon was the better buy

Komelon MK6012 Meter-Man 19-Inch Measuring Wheel purchased for $53.31 and received 11/19/15 The unit I received does not have the adjustable twist and lock handle as shown in the specs, it has a hinged snapped into place type, which I don't feel I like as much as the adjustable type. I think that hinged part is going to be the weak point. I also bought for $65 a 13 inch measuring wheel from tractor supply which had an adjustable handle with a grip that had less of an angle and was not as comfortable as this 19 inch unit. It seemed well-built but the kickstand was sticking out more when it was in the up position and could catch on brush or tall grass and not as stable with it down as with the 19 inch unit. And since I'm going to be using it in a rough area, the 19 inch was more comfortable pushing and getting around with a 19 inch wheel and the grip was more comfortable. I haven't had a chance to use it much but the 19 inch Komelon was the better buy, money and feature wise.

ligera, Práctica y de buen diámetro. buena precisión

Es una rueda de muy buen diámetro. Es ligera y muy precisa en las mediciones. Se ve que es de un matrial muy resistente y la llanta de hule la hace más duradera. No me fijé que las unidades de medida son en Pies y pulgadas, pero no importa hago la conversión a metros y cms. Me gustó mucho !.
