Works on 304 Stainless
Used this with my DeWalt 20v impact, a 1/2 drive, and a deep socket, all impact rated. Worked great!

Works with Stainless pipe
I used a Milwaukee fuel 1/2" Mid torque impact and was able to stretch 3" stainless pipe, it did take a few times and a few rotations to get it to open up enough, I think with a more powerful air impact or the larger fuel impact it would work a lot faster. I have previously tried a harbor freight stretcher and it wouldn't even attempt to stretch the pipe.

Impact away
Yes, you can use an impact. That’s the only thing I’ve used. Those cheap ones like you see at HF just shatter instantly, but not this thing. My only complaint is that it doesn’t stretch it very round due to the wide range in size on each adapter - they spread apart too much to size. The solution is to repeat the stretch a few times rotating the dies so that the whole surface area of the pipe is covered evenly. The only real solution to this would be a set with more in-between sizes of the adapters.

More than enough for the hobbyist/enthusiast, probably good for occasional professional use
I had no problems using this to stretch the factory exhaust on a 2007 Toyota RAV4, as well as the ends of a section of 16 gauge 409S stainless steel tubing. In the latter case I was just holding an 8-inch section of the tubing with a leather glove in my weaker left hand, I didn't need any kind of strap wrench or anything. The piece turned a little bit in my hand but with the great mechanical advantage provided by the tool's taper, it all worked fine. And I was just using a relatively inexpensive Harbor Freight electric impact wrench -- I didn't have to bother taking out the big air gun and firing up the compressor. This thing is really well built and has power to take over where the cheapo expanders give up. You know the type, the ones that you can borrow from your local auto parts store for free. I would even go so far as to say this would suit a professional mechanic who needs to do some occasional exhaust fitting. For the hobbyist/enthusiast, I cannot see why you would ever need anything more than this. The people comparing this to hydraulic expanders, well they must be expanding pipe every day or week for a living. If you just had to fit up some pipe once or twice a month, this is all you need, and it would hold up pretty well. I didn't see the size of the drive nut listed anywhere in the kit, so I will mention that my 29mm impact socket fit perfectly. Which is a good thing because I don't have any SAE impact sockets that large.

The band all broke during first use.
Horrible, not unboxed more then five minutes and during first use the retaining bands break. Then notice one expander in the case had broken bands also. Do not buy this crap. Lisle should be ashamed charging this much money for junk! Update: Reached out to Lisle and customer rep. Amber responded and sent out many replacement O-rings. So four stars for the prompt Customer service support from Lisle.

For an amateur welder like me, lapped joints are a ton easier to ...
I use this tool to stretch mild steel exhaust tubing, so I can do slip-fit assembly of all my bends, straights, cats and mufflers for my DIY custom exhaust. I don't use clamps - I weld - but making everything slip-fit lets me put the WHOLE system together and get it aligned perfectly, then hit the joints with a couple tack welds to maintain the alignments. Then I can remove the tubes from the car and finish weld on my table. For an amateur welder like me, lapped joints are a ton easier to get clean welds on too. Butt welds need very tight, no-gap lineup between the pipes, which means a ton of test fitting, tube end filing, and refitting. A serious time suck. Or if I'm replacing stock/OEM exhaust parts that have worn out on one of my street cars, this is also helpful if something isn't lined up quite right and I need to make a coupler or something. I really doubt it would stretch stainless. Maybe if it was really thin, I don't know. The O-rings that hold the tool segments together are rubber/elastomer material, and they do break from time to time. Lisle part numbers for replacements are 34500 for the small and 34490 for the larger one.

Great tool, built very well.
This tool is the way too go if you're going to expand an exhaust pipe. I was using those really cheap $30 pipe expanders, I must of broke 5 of them trying to expand one pipe. I ended up ordering this set. I should of just got this set the first time and saved myself all of that wasted time and trips to the autoparts store to exchange the pipe expander.

Well worth the money, great tool and time saver
Fantastic tool, don’t know how I’ve got by without it all these years. Have a Huth high speed exhaust machine and several hammer type exhaust expanders but this tool makes them look like junk. Well worth the price. Plus I just saw a video using a enerpac hollow bore hydraulic cylinder with this tool instead of a impact, I’ll be trying that next time.

A great addition to my tool box
Overall, the quality is great and had no issues with using this product. It expands pipe diameter effectively and it is easy to use. I paired this up with an air tool to expand stainless steel pipes, and have been very pleased with how it performs. At first, I was skeptical since the expander material is made out of aluminum, but it was able to expand stainless steel material no problem! Thank you for the wonderful product! :)

Tuff, Works really good.
This is a very sturdy and effective tool, and will stretch and flare your exhaust pipes. Don’t waste your time and money on cheaper low quality look a likes. They will shatter the first time you put your impact on them. This one takes a lot of abuse.

Makes quick work of expanding exhaust pipes
I should have purchased this sooner as it just works. Years of dreading every minor exhaust job is behind me. Grease it real good and hit it with the impact, loosen and rotate it a bit to keep pipe smooth and even and in no time you have a perfect fit. I have only used in on steel exhaust pipes so far. It is not a replacement for a pneumatic/hydraulic unit but for occasional muffler and pipe swaps this one does the trick.
