Fish Tank review
I got this to specifically try out in a 55 gal fish tank. Let me say first, IT DOES REQUIRE a strong pump to substantially move air trough it. The average aquarium pump probably won't work with this or not work well. I found that out right away. The first air pump I put this on barely put out a trickle of bubbles through this stone and was no better than the old crummy, tiny blue air stone I was replacing. Since it was the exact same amount of bubbles, I figured I needed a stronger pump. Luckily, I had a spare 4 outlet pump laying around. After some fiddling and experimenting I found the best output I could get from this stone and pump was if all 4 outlets were pumping through the stone all at once (achieved with T connectors). Standard airline tubing for fish tanks (3/16) will NOT fit the nipple on this air stone unless your really force it on because that type of airline is too stiff. I used some nice, stretchy silicone 3/16 tubing that slipped over the nipple very easily. Then it came time to put the stone in the tank. This thing is very heavy so it sat at the bottom with no problem. Then I turned on the air and only got bubbles from the top, from right around the nipple...not enough bubbles for me...I wanted the whole thing to bubble. So, I flipped it upside down and buried the nipple and hose in the substrate. I got a few tiny bubbles here and there and some big bubble farts still coming from around the buried nipple. So, I waited. The big bubble farts stopped after a while. Gradually, more and more streams of tiny bubbles started pouring out from all over this stone. And within a few minutes the whole stone was blowing tiny bubbles in a nice thick, powerful column which is exactly what I needed and expected. Wonderful. If it lasts a year without clogging, I will have gotten my money's worth. If it is as easily unclogged as some of the other reviews say, then even better. So yes, I would recommend this for fish tanks as long as you know you need a strong pump and tubing you can get to fit over the nipple.

Nice stone, need more
I know Im a retard but I thought you get all 3 stones in the picture. You dont. You get one. Apparently the default size is large so thats what came. Im ordering 3 more! The stone seems to be solid, is certainly heavy (13oz) and sinks str8 to the bottom of my 5 gal bucket. Bubbles disperse from it well, from both ends and along its length. Ive never used air stones so Ive nothing to compare it against but it seems to work well. You could say it gives a light rolling boil type bubble in a 5 gal pail; it could possibly be more rigorous if I had a stronger air-pump. I used 3/16" tubing to connect it and it fit just fine, nice and snug. There was grit in the package, so I would recommend not just rinsing it under a faucet but letting it run over night in a plain water bucket as any remaining particles will be cleaned out of it. Edit. Just received 3 more. The package looked like it'd been thru hell and back and most of the sleeves had fallen off the stones. However, none of the stones was broken. I will say I was surprised by the smallest stone--its kinda bit peppy...maybe even a better buy than getting the larger ones. Anyways, they all are working. Gonna let em bubble out overnight in an empty tank and they should be good to go by tomarrow (they're gritty so I would take the time to let them flush out for a while). Edit 2: If you clean your air stones be sure to give them a chance to blow out any remaining soap in a separate water bucket before putting back into your reservoir (rinsing alone is not enough). Just a little lesson I learned--the hard way:)

Heavy Duty and Produces Lot of Fine Bubbles. Use With a Large Air Pump.
I really like these large air stones. They put out a ton of fine air bubbles. They don't clog easily. They are heavy and stay at the bottom of your bucket, aquarium or other location. I also purchased a 4" flat round air stone and compared it to this large one. Both are Hydrofarm. These cylinder ones put out significantly more air than the flat disc shaped stones. I now have 5 of these and use them for making Actively Aerated Compost Teas. I have found that they will stay unclogged a LOT longer if you will remove them from the tea while the air pump is still running and them clean them in a bucket of fresh water with a little scrubbing brush or your hand to remove the bio-film that has developed on them. They will continue to produce fine bubbles for a very long time. When they do get clogged and you notice less bubble production, you can soak them in a solution of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide or Vinegar. Very happy with the purchase.

Great air stone
This is a great air stone that puts out an even shed of tiny bubbles. I was using two different stones and my other one was like an algae magnet and turned green, but this one has not developed any algae at all in the same amount of time in the same water - not sure why but it's nice. The only reason I didn't give this stone 5 stars is because the picture is misleading. You only get the one large stone not the two smaller ones. I think they use this picture to show the size, but there are better ways of doing that without making people think they will get three stones. I was disappointed in the poor packaging of the stone. When it arrived the stone's packaging inside the box had opened up and was coming apart. The plastic and cardboard were bent and it looked like it had been tossed around. Luckily everything worked fine and it wasn't a problem, but my first impression was that it was going to have a crack or chunk missing by how bad the packaging was. I would order another one in the future.

Great aeration. Awesome longevity.
It's been 20 months since I purchased 2 of these stones and they continue to provide an insane amount of bubbles. My usual go to is petsmart for the large disc stones for 11$ but they clog up easy, requiring cleaning/sanding and the air line nip on the stones breaks easily after some time. The two of these stones have never been sanded once as a precaution and the quality of plastic on the nip is of a denser and thicker plastic. Would recommend and buy again.

Good stones, currently horribly priced
***I purchased these stones at $1.95 each back in January 2014. In October 2014 they are currently $8.99 each.*** I contacted Amazon customer service and they confirmed the new price of $8.99 as legit. $8.99 for a small airstone, how does that many any sense? It doesn't. So I'm reviewing this as 1-star as this price-point makes no sense. Hopefully it will push Amazon to reprice these, since the supplier Hydrofarm still sells them at $1.95 each. Granted these are excellent airstones, but a 300% markup on such a common item is insulting. At that price these would have to have a built-in airpump, lol.

My favorite air stone
My favorite air stone. The oxygen is amazing, I use it for my plants and they love it. The small one is quite large so I don't need the larger ones. If you are buying for a fish tank, read carefully, the stone is over 1 inch in diameter. If you need oxygen for your plants, they are the way to go. I have a small hydroponic garden for my bunny friend. A few deep water cultures and a few aerogrow gardens, I use the small stones in both (extra oxygen in the aéro garden) the larger stones would not fit in my set up but if you use a 5 gal. bucket, I would go with the large stones

quietly does its job well
Seems to put out a nice amount of air. the bubbles are medium sized. puts out smaller and more even amounts of bubbles than my other airstones making it a lot quieter and it vibrates a lot less. Overall I'm satisfied but I'll update this review after a few weeks or months,

Excellent Aeration
Installed a week ago, providing excellent Aeration to tertiary septic system via 1300 gph air pump using 3 tubes. Results are impressive and so far economical. Durability is the next test over time.
