Used to Replace Remote/Receiver for Sontera Model 22436
I used the Hunter 99770 remote/receiver to replace the existing remote/receiver that came with my Hunter Sontera Model 22436 ceiling fan purchased in 2004. The original receiver would no longer turn on the fan, but curiously would still turn on the lights. I first removed the light globes and bulbs, then the fan blades. The original installation instructions weren’t clear on the best way to detach the fan from the ceiling. I removed the screw on the side of the canopy that had the small hooks first. I then removed the screw on the other side thinking I could just gently let the fan swing down while staying on the small hooks. No such luck. The whole fan detached in my hands. So I’m not sure what the proper way is to get it to stay on the hooks. Regardless, I just held onto the fan and removed the wire nuts from the fan to the receiver and then sat the fan aside. I discovered that no ground wires were present. Perhaps they weren’t required back in 2004? Anyway, because the original electrician has shoved the wires so far back into the outlet, I had to remove the fan bracket just to extract the wires. Once all this was done, I removed the original receiver and wired up the new one. Unless you have a really tall ladder with a working platform, I would suggest having a helper available to finish all the wiring and to get the fan back in place. The remote worked as advertised, and with a greater range than the original. It also seems more substantial than the original remote. The only thing I don’t like is that the lights don’t come on at full brightness. I have to hold down the light button on the remote to cycle through the dimming process to get them to full brightness. Why they changed this aspect is beyond me. Overall, I’m satisfied with it other than it took me 2+ hours to complete the project. UPDATE: Two things I got wrong. One, apparently after a couple of on/off cycles, the lights will come on at their previous setting which is good and makes more sense. You just have to wait a second for the lights to adjust. Two, I overlooked the last line of instructions on the enclosed remote control card. You can disable the dimming function so that the lights turn on at full brightness every time. Thus I increased my rating to five stars. The only thing I can think of to improve the receiver would be to offer a pass through of the common (white) wire, like on the original receiver, to make the wiring connections easier.

Works great for fan and light control
Easy to I stall for both light and fan. Wiring diagram makes it clear how to connect. It fits inside the fixture. The remote is small and works great.

Remote for light is very frustrating
Remote for light is very difficult to use. There are tiny levels of light levels, then it jumps to brighter or dimmer levels, making it hard to land on the brightness level wanted. The same happens to the fan speeds, but there are only 3 speeds available, so it's easier to get to the level wanted. The light remote is very frustrating to use. Next time I will get a non-dimming remote and be happier with the bulbs going on, and the light going on and off.

Disappointing
I recently ordered four 52" Hunter Crestfield fans. Since this model did not come with a remote control, I ordered four of these remotes to go with the fans. I am really disappointed with them. There is one button to control the on/off for lights, but this button also controls the brightness. Aside from watching the bulbs get brighter and dimmer, there is no way to tell by looking at the remote which level of brightness the light is on. As for the fan, there is an on/off button and also separate up and down buttons to control the fan speed. While this is slightly better than the light feature, it's still not great. Again, there is no way to tell which speed the fan is on. For comparison, I have two 14-year-old Casablanca fans with far better remotes that were included with the fans. There are six fan speeds, and I can see from the display which level the fan is on. The light portion functions much the same way. I can always glance at the display on the remote to see which level of brightness the light is on. As for mounting, there are two screws and two anchors included. Additionally, there is a single Command strip, which is nice. Overall, this remote will suffice if you find the pull chains unsightly or if they can't be reached easily. Don't expect anything more than basic functionality. For an additional cost of $70+, this remote should deliver more.

Wish I would’ve ordered it sooner
Works great with the existing Hunter fan that was already installed when I bought the house. I had a remote controlled ceiling fan in my bedroom at my previous house, a missed it more than I expected when moved. I did have to turn the dimming function off because it wouldn’t go to the full brightness, but perhaps that’s the point of the dimming feature. Not a problem for me, since I rarely use the overhead light anyway.
