Unusual: has compartments that are high as well as wide. Less chance of breakage

Pleased with this box because it is the only one I have found for very large ornaments. I have other kinds of storage boxes I can adjust to wider interior spaces, but the next layer is not held up high, so the ornaments could still be crushed from the top. Note that there are only two lift-out trays. However, there are extra cardboard dividers that can be placed in the bottom of the container without a tray. And then the two trays set above it. Or with two trays at bottom, the second layer can have cardboard placed on top of the trays and other kinds of bulky things such as coiled garlands can go in the open top space.

Well-thought-out design at an excellent price.

Sometimes it's the little details that really add up, and that's the case here. Overall, the box feels like something that will last for many years of seasonal storage, with several nice features: ~The box is a generous size - divided evenly, each section will hold a LARGE glass ball. Or, with tissue paper, a couple of medium ones, or several small ones. ~The outside (including the bottom) is covered in a wipe-able material - seems to be a thinner version of what's used for an umbrella. I wouldn't call it waterproof, but if you spilled hot chocolate while decorating, your ornaments should be fine. And I like being able to wipe down storage boxes periodically - prevents mildew & general ickiness. ~The handles are attached well. The bottom of the box would give out long before the handles. ~The box itself seems fairly sturdy, for a light ornament box. It's not for dishes or a bowling ball, but you could probably store small ceramic items if they weren't crammed in. ~All the sides except the clear plastic window have a cardboard insert to prevent smooshage. (The bottom is a removable insert - see next feature.) The plastic window is probably the weakest point, but even there the inside dividers provide some support. ~The three horizontal dividers are fabric-covered cardboard; they should hold up to several years of being lifted in & out. The bottom is a simple flat insert (designed to stay in place). The middle & upper ones are more like soft-sided trays with handles - you can lift each layer of ornaments out without having to unpack it. Very nice if several people are decorating (everyone gets a tray), or just to get to something on the bottom. ~The vertical dividers are simple white cardboard (a sturdy coated cardstock). They're not designed for as much wear-and-tear (presumably once you have them set up you don't rearrange them very often). But each divider does have multiple notches cut into - GREAT for longer or wider ornaments/tree-toppers. (I wasn't expecting this, but it was perfect for some clip-on glass candles & clip-on birds with long feather tails that I have.) A couple of minor cons: ~The lid is fully removable, so it won't flip over the box while you're unloading. The downside is that if the box tips over, everything pours out. But a couple of stick-on Velcro dots along the rim of the lid solved that. ~I could have done without the plastic window - that sort of plastic just seems to beg to have a hole poked in it. Plus, I would have preferred the extra protection of another cardboard wall over a viewing window. But that's a personal preference - somebody else might appreciate being able to see what's inside with having take it off the shelf. I had bought a similar-style ornament box at Target last year for around $20, and was disappointed that they didn't carry them again this year. This was the same price (even factoring in a couple of dollars for the Velcro), it's larger, and it's got more features. SO glad that I didn't pay for one of the $30-$60 boxes. At this price, I may get a second one (maybe for lights or tinsel) just for the extra vertical dividers. And then I could use the extra bottom-insert to protect the window side...

its not that sturdy and one of 3 trays does not have handles

overall its not bad and fit my large ornaments. but it is a little bit flimsy. Also, two out of 3 trays have handles and one does not. makes you think you are missing a tray.

Great for glass ornaments

This product is great. My favorite ornament storage are the plastic bins with dividers that lock and that continues to be the way that I store my most precious ornaments, but this is a good second place option that is much cheaper and how I now plan to store the bulk of my glass ornaments. The box itself is much sturdier than cheaper options also on Amazon (I bought two of a cheaper box and two of these), and has multiple notches on the inside carboard so you can adjust to nearly any size. I am securely storing what I would consider 'jumbo' ball ornaments, as well as smaller ones and uniquely shaped ones in different sized compartments. Each row comes with a fabric tray with handles and a cardboard bottom, so you can securely lift out each row (the cheaper options do not usually have sides and the ornaments all slide out if you try to lift a tray out). The quality of the cardboard is also much better - thicker and sturdier which makes assembly easier and looks promising for longevity. You can probably get away with cheaper options if you have non breakable ornaments, but if you're looking to store glass ornaments securely at the most competitive price, this is the best option I have found (and I have looked ALL over, for many years).

Will probably buy more of these

Really liked this box easy to use but the description was a little misleading. There are pieces to section off 3 layers of ornaments and two cloth trays to hold to layers the bottom layer rests in the base of the box. So you can not remove the whole layer/ tray of ornaments at the same time. This is not a huge problem And the container is attractive sturdy and I believe protects my glass ornaments very well. But I did not realize that there were only two trays until I called there customer service. The customer service was a delight a human being answered right away sent me to the right department right away answered my questions explained it to me… For that alone I probably would buy another one of these

Not "5 x 5 inch" as advertised

I bought this because it claimed it was "5 x 5 inch shelves". I don't know what sort of ruler they are using, but it is clearly 4.5" x 4.5" shelves. I ordered two and one was wrapped, one not. So apparently someone else wanted to return one of them too.

Expected Better for what I paid

Just OK but my best ornaments wont go in this. Its just OK not as durable or strong as I expected. Not everyone wants cheap junk that don't hold up and don't do what it says it will this is just OK barely

Wonderful item!

I ordered this a few years ago to start an ornament collection for my granddaughter, and it is wonderful. Two new granddaughters, now, so I ordered two more. This one is different from the others offered because it's designed to hold larger ornaments, as opposed to taking out dividers to accommodate large ornaments (which is what you have to do with most others). It is a very sturdy item. If you have small ornaments, quite a few can fit in one compartment, but if they're breakable, I'd wrap them in tissue before packing them together. I gave my new granddaughters their Baby's 1st Christmas ornament (and this unit), and my daughter-in-law said this organizer is wonderful! She stored the baby's fisher price nativity play set and other Christmas things in it, as well, until her ornament collection grows.
