I've Used This Filter For a Few Years
This is the upgraded filter to the other CFF25 model. I've used both but use this one for every day use ( I keep the cheaper CFF25 to use for filling water storage containers during hurricane season). This filter works well and I often filter it again when I fill my water filter pitcher ( Waterdrop Elfin) to make sure it's extra pure. When changing filters, the instructions say to run 5 gallons through the system before using but I've found that even at 5 straight gallons some discoloration still occurs. So here's what I do: Turn on the filter and allow the charcoal debris to run clear. Then: I SLOWLY run 3 gallons ( 12 16oz jars) then wait at least 10 minutes and run another gallon ( 4 jars) and then wait another 10 mins or more and run the final gallon through the system. This usually clears the water but just beware that when the filter is brand new, it may take running it for a few seconds before filling your glass to clear the light tan color. It's not as if it's toxic- just doesn't always look crystal clear right after those first 5 gallons. Highly recommend these filters.

Important caveat nobody else mentioned about orientation... and a simple how-to...
Ok, reviews for this thing are all over the place. Here's my attempt to cut through the confusion. It's a ten inch cartridge filter, with a gasket at one end, and an inlet port at the other. Unlike ordinary pleated filters, the water doesn't pass into the housing, then through the pleating, then out the exit. Instead, it flows from the ungasketed end to the gasketed end, then out. This gives the water more filter time as it passes lengthwise through the whole cartridge. So far, so good. Now for the interesting stuff. Installation should be with the rubber gasket pointed at the inlet/outlet side of the filter holder so the filtered water can exit, NOT at the end of the bell housing. Here's the IMPORTANT caveat I discovered: you may want to invert your filter assembly if it's a typical whole house filter! In the original application, the black end faced down, apparently. And, apparently it matters. The carbon and the white parts of this filter are simply loose powder. Installed black side up, when water flows it raises the contents and when it quits they sink again. In effect, you fluff the whole filter every time you turn the water flow on and off. This effect is magnified by pressure. We kept getting a white cloud every time the faucet was opened and the filter gradually mixed black and white parts together. Solution: Flip the whole filter housing so the black part points down, as well as at the end of the housing that has the fittings. Installed with gravity on your side, as in black down, bell housing up, water pressure simply packs the filter material into place. Shortly, the filter settles and does its job. Hope this is helpful!

For peace of mind, better health, and convenience
I don't have overwhelming evidence that these filters that I've been buying for nearly 3 years are effective, so I'll mention the points of why I use this filtering system instead. I had been using a well-known "pitcher system" which requires buying filter after filter until I discovered that fluoride, which is a common additive in "town" water, plugs itself into the body's receptors meant for iodine. That alone was enough to warrant avoiding municipal water but I needed something better to remove the fluoride as Home Master purports to do along with chlorine and other chemicals. Since I use water kefir "grains" (assorted beneficial bacteria) to make my own probiotic I was buying spring water to avoid the chemicals that might kill my little guys. Even though I noticed no chlorine odor from Home Master-filtered water I made the switch to it for them gradually and now use it exclusively and add my own beneficial minerals instead. The fact that my little guys are doing just fine tells me that the filter is doing its job and I have the peace of mind that I've eliminated dangerous bromines from my water. Proof of the latter is that I no longer have an iodine-deficiency disease. I started with a counter top filter and then switched to an under-counter mount using their kit, along with a small stainless steel faucet in the hole in the sink provided for a sprayer, and couldn't be happier. I've improved the quality of my drinking and cooking water, no longer have to keep multiple filters on hand, and the little faucet at the sink is very convenient and much nicer than a bulky pitcher.

Great Water Filter—Makes Tap Water Taste Fresh
I bought the counter top unit from the manufacturer last year when Amazon ran out. I now buy the replacement filters from Amazon—the Home Master CFF2E-F10 Jr Elite Water Replacement Filter. It filters everything I don’t want in my water, including the combination of Chloramine. The filter life is six months, and during that time the water comes out chemical free and great tasting. I stopped buying bottled water, as this filter gives the same quality as commercial filtered water (my opinion). For the money it’s a great value and has saved me hundreds of dollars now that I don’t need water delivered. I highly recommend it. For aquarium owners, it’s known Chloramine kills fish, so while this filter may produce water safe enough for use in aquariums, do check with the manufacturer to be sure before you use it for that purpose.

Seems absolutely amazing, but..
there is a strange metallic taste coming out of it... As great as this filter is (kinda like mini-reverse osmosis) level... It just isn't worth the value for my personal style. I live alone and simply use spring water instead, it is cheaper and better quality. I still recommend this product if you use tap water frequently.

Chihuahua tested and approved !
Bought this to get clean water but mainly to remove fluoride. Water tastes so great it's a joy just to drink ice water now. My Chihuahua rarely drank before, he doesn't really need much, but with this filter, he drinks easily twice as much, he's my canary in this coal mine. The secret for great coffee, use filtered water.

Love these filters
We live in the country and have a cistern so have to haul water in. It's still city water and not the softest. Without the filter I found it had a chemical taste. This filter makes it taste so nice and clean and my coffee machine goes much longer without having buildup when using the filtered water.
