Works well for whatever finish you want
The media could not be loaded. Edit* I would give it 6 stars if I could. Previously I mentioned that it dries matte, and I'd be worried the white would get really dirty. I was wrong, it actually cleans up really nice with a regular Clorox wipe. It is definatley more matte then shiny, but the surface is much easier to clean then I initially thought. I'm really happy with the product after living with it for a few months. ------------------------- Original review: I absolutely 100% did NOT think that tiny little can of paint would cover the whole fireplace... I was wrong... So very wrong. The paint can is only 16 oz I think. I have what I would consider a "standard" sized fireplace. I HATE red brick. I didn't want any showing through at all. I did the 2:1 ratio and didn't rub any of the paint off. I mixed the 8oz of paint with 4 oz water. I laid the first coat on very thick, and the red brick was still showing through a bit (make sure you catch your paint drips though if laying it on thick). Halfway through I was already planning on putting in another order on Amazon for a second container or paint because I was going through it so quickly. I was able to cover about 80% of the fireplace with the first 2:1 ratio. Once I ran out of the first pour, I realized that the rest of the 8oz would be way more than enough to finish the project. On the second pour I ended up doing 4oz paint 2oz water (half the reccomend amount) because I knew if I made the full 8oz it would have gone to waste. The second pour actually ended up being even a little more than I needed to finish. The second coat of paint went on a lot quicker. I ended up going over every square inch a second time. With the second coat there was no more red brick showing through at all which is exactly the look I wanted. One thing I will say, is that this is definitely more of a stain as opposed to paint. It drys matte on the brick. It's like the brick absorbs the paint into the pores. I personally like the matte look of it. However, I could see this getting absolutely trashed with coals, embers, and dirt from the fireplace. I honestly think if you are looking for pure white it's probably better to get a real primer and just paint it, if it has a bit of lacquer it would be much easier to wipe down. I NEVER use the fireplace, so I'm not worried about to soot or anything. Although I can already see I'm going to really have to keep it clean. I considered buying another paint to create a lacquered finish so it's easier to clean, but I just didn't have the energy. If you USE the fireplace and want it extra white, I would probably steer away from this product and get a shinier finish that is easier to clean/wipe. Overall, I'm impressed with the coverage of the paint and the whole kit in general. Although, I'm worried how to keep it clean. It really does finish nicely. I really like the new look. I still don't understand anyone wanting to wipe off any of the white to see the red peeking through. But I guess to each their own? I'm personally not into it. I would assume if you want more of the brick color showing and you have a "standard" size fireplace you probably wouldnt need all 8oz with a 1:1 ratio the paint goes a VERY long way since it's mixed with water. I still have 6 oz of paint left despite 2 full coats of paint. I bought a gray mantle that I was thinking about painting white, but I ended up not doing that, but I was glad to know if I wanted to, I would have had enough paint to do it Super impressed with the product.

Easy to use and refreshed my brick!
This product was very easy to use. I love how it refreshed my bricks! This is a 1:1 ratio on lighter bricks. I also wiped some off as I went. It looks great! The only thing I wish is that it came in an ivory color as well because the white is a very stark white and my trim is more ivory. But other than that great product!

Just What I Needed
This product was great! Came with everything I needed which was really convenient. Decided to go with the 1 part paint to 2 parts water method, without wiping. I will say I made quite a mess of the walls because I became quite impatient and it was a bit difficult to get the paint in all the divets of the stones and the paint was quite runny since it’s mostly water. But overall very impressed with the set, only used half the can on all the stone so used the rest left over (unmixed) to get a first couple coats on the very rough wooden mantle, will have to go over with other paint later. Only took a couple of hours. You won’t regret this set!

What a transformation!
This whitewash does exactly what it says it will. My husband and I cleaned it on a Friday evening and set it up to whitewash the following day. Very simple, easy to use and easily washes off your hands (I was the wiper, so I had some on me). Transformed the fireplace and the room looks totally different now. If you are on the fence, don't be afraid, just purchase it!

First time homebuyer, my fireplace looked old and I couldn’t take it so I white washed it. Not the exact outcome it was looking for but definitely not a bad outcome. A lot of people comment on it positively, some more than once. Definitely a good kit if recommended it. Plus it comes with all the stuff you need so it’s very easy. Although I did run out at the end. So I did the same thing the kit says but with regular white paint and I don’t see a difference, in fact I’m not even sure where I finished with their pant and started with mine.

Good product, easy to use.
I figured I would write a review for this product because I know how much I appreciated reading the reviews when I decided to paint my fireplace. Day 1: I started by vacuuming my fireplace then spraying on TSP cleaner and brushing it all with a thick bristled broom. Then I sprayed water on it to rinse off any left over cleaner. I let a dehumidifier run overnight in the room because I wanted to make sure the brick was bone dry before painting. Day 2: I taped off the areas I didn’t want to get paint on and started to paint. I mixed half the can of paint (about 235ml) with 300ml of water. (so, slightly more water than a 1:1 ratio) Make sure to shake the can well before pouring and then use the stir stick to mix the water well before painting and often during the painting process. As I started painting, I could see the brick quickly absorbing the paint and a lot of the red brick underneath coming through, so after I painted about 10 bricks, I went back and applied more on the previous ones. I didn’t wipe off the paint, but I did pat it a bit with the enclosed cloth, cause the paint was going on very bubbly and I didn’t want the bubbles to show when it dried. This project took me 2 and a half cans to finish. After the second can, I had roughly 40 bricks left, so if I hadn’t had continually re-coated the bricks while I painted, I could have probably only used 2 cans. I am happy with the results. Like some other reviews mentioned, the paint has a very ‘cool’ white tone to it, so it’s a bit on the blue side. I ended up changing the bulbs in the room to a warmer tone, so I could soften it up a bit and make it match the colours on my walls a bit more. All in all, it’s a good product. The kit has a lot of useful tools in it to make the project easier, ( container, brush, stir stick, clothes, painters tape) and the kit was cheaper than buying just the can. Keep it in mind, it is a small can, not a gallon, not even a quart, but once you mix it with water, a little goes a long way. That being said, I still needed 3 cans to finish.

Great kit and easy to use!
This kit was amazing - had everything included in the box and instructions were very clear. I used it on an old pink brick fireplace from 1988 and it came out exactly as I intended. You can alter the solution so that it covers more or less brick depending on the level of coverage you want (by adding more/less water). My only tiny complaint is that the paint jar included is a bit small… I just barely had enough to do the 1 coat. If the fireplace were any larger than mine, the 1 can would not have been enough.

So easy to use!!
I was very nervous and skeptical when I started this project. After much reading of reviews and watching videos I figured it sounded and looked easy enough to do. This fireplace only took me 5 hrs to whitewash, not nearly as long as I thought! Our basement is so much brighter. This was done using the 1:1 ratio. The kit has everything you need and the paintbrush that is included is excellent quality. After painting so much brick I thought for sure that the bristles would start falling out but that wasn't the case. The brush cleaned up nicely and is still in great shape!!
