Range on detector not very good.
I purchased this device to trace a sprinkler valve wire. These wires were buried about a foot deep. I couldn’t detect the trace signal you n my case. They work okay for Sheetrock, but some cheap ones work well for that purpose. I would recommend saving your money.

I rated it in that manner cause I had to figure it out ! but all in all I got it and it took me 2 days but I found the problem it worked well only wish it was louder it did work fine I would not hesitate to use it over n over ,I think I would still be looking for the short still if I did not have it how ever I have a different type I tried using and the results was a waist of time I first received it and in couple days baring the weather it located it and I was up and running . May I add this was a 92 ranger it stopped cold for no reason known it had fuel and all it did turn over /no start so for those that have same problem this short was down near transmission in wire cluster hope it will help some one ,sorry for the inset but if it helps not to junk it out ,buy a GTC FF310 finder

Disappointed that it's not rechargeable like their other newer models
This uses a couple of 9V batteries to power; most of their newer products come with built in rechargeable batteries. I'm puzzled as to how effective this tool can be, as there are warnings about using it in high current circuits. Funny, because most (current draw) troubleshooting starts at the battery terminals. Spike in current when reconnecting the battery terminals can spike to over 20A, in my experience. With such thin leads, I'm scared it's going to damage the tool itself, as you're supposed to insert the tool inline in series.

Product works as described.
The FF310 is compact but feels like a quality tool in the hand. Reading the instructions is a must to get a good baseline of the tools functionality. I used it to "test" trace a wire in the interior lighting circuit of a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee using the blades in placemnet of the lighting fuse in the main fuse box and I was able to follow the wire without taking anything apart, I did have to use the receiver on its hightest sensitivity setting and it does take a little practice to understand how to maneuver the receivers probe but it worked well none the less. I also used on the same vehicle using the process of disconnecting the RR brake wire at the light and applying 12v to one lead of the transmitter and attaching the other lead of the transmitter to the wire from the brake pedal and it worked just as it did on video. Great tool, I see many uses for it.

I'm russian! And i bought this item for my semy-professional use. I read too many different reviews,watched tons of videos, of this and oter devices... And dicided to buy exactly this one! Fist very big surprise for me was-it's tottally made in Canada,very pleasant! Fist test was imidiately performed on old type nissan atlas....i checked twice...it works perfectly... power wire with no visible damages at all was broken inside isolation! Next time honda cr-v 99"- check for cont. of injection signal wire from distributor(under hood) to ECU socket, perfect job done les than 5 min. This is very good really,thruly, working device, perfect time saver! Must have! Just only one thig-you need just turn your head on then any missreading goes to 0%at all! Whatever dificult challenge you got, this thig will cut at list time of simple stupid searchings for harness location, cont.y of harness from point "a" to "b",it's really matter if you know what i'm talking about.

Not Impressed! Worth the cost...TBD
Needed to find a short in my Ford F350. So someone on a Ford forum mentioned this tool. After looking to it, I found a similar tool at Harbor Freight. Which was less then $30. But I wanted to do this job right, and only once! SO I opted for the "pro" version. I am very disappointed in how low the sensitivity is. Yes, even on the highest setting (3 blinks). Barely works through kick panels or tracking a dome light through the head liner. If you are more than a fe feet from the transmitter and receiver has a hard time following the signal. BTW, still have not found the short. SOoo.....I am heading to HF and getting the centech brand fault finder. And if it out preforms this one we drop to one star and a return for full refund!!!!

This tools is an absolute dream. It works and it works fantastic.
I have written only 1 product review in the past and this makes it review #2. I am extremely impressed with the performance of this tool. I have been using it for over a year in several situations; troubleshooting farm equipment, skid steers, heavy machinery, boats and other. This tool has paid for itself on the very first use. It works and it works perfectly. It has pinpointed shorts and broken wires with an accuracy of ±1/2 inch of the failure location; very impressive. I almost didn't buy this tool based on a number of negative reviews stating the user is unable to find the electrical faults. In my opinion, the tool is not the problem. There are no tools out there to fix dummies. You still need a good understanding of electrical circuits and excellent troubleshooting skills. This tools will help a skilled troubleshooter find the problems much, much faster. A huge time saver!!!

Great North American product
Works great, and Canadian made too, not Chinese. It would just be nice to have a little bigger case, you have to hold your tongue right to get it closed up, and you have to take the batteries out because the buttons turn the devices on as you close the case. Switches would be my preference for on and off to prevent accidentally turning it on.

Works good, easy to use and highly recomend.
Nice little gadget for finding opens and shorts saves alot of time and tape. So you dont have to unwrape the entire harness to visually find shorts.
