Finally have my Ice maker back!
Searched many reviews on this part for my ice maker. They don't all fit just right. Thank heavens, this one did and i finally have my ice maker working again!

Part Specs Have Changed
This is the part # for our 11 year old GE refrigerator but this auger's measurements are different than the part I was replacing. I had bought another, cheaper auger on Amazon that also had problems with measurements. Other users recommended grinding down the metal rod. I did not have a grinder so I returned that one. After installing this auger with all my original pieces it was binding some place. Couldn't see where. Auger would manually turn with extreme difficulty. I knew the motor could burn out if I reinstalled the housing it the way it was. I searched YouTube and checked the schematics for this part. My original auger had 2 metal washers plus a plastic spacer at the end closest to the plastic spirals. Different schematics showed either 2 plastic spacers or 1 plastic spacer; no metal washers I finally found a couple on YouTube that demonstrated the difference in measurements on their auger. They also had 2 metal washers. He was able to grind down the dent on the rod to allow all his original pieces to fit including the 2 metal washer. I was ready to return this auger as I did not have a grinder. I should not have to be a machinist to get a part to work. Taking a chance I put everything back on the rod in proper order except for the 2 metal washers. Everything works great. Ice cubes come out and cubes get crusher almost better than before. Have been using for about a week without any problems. Very happy except this took me much more time to figure out than required. Without this issue it would have taken less than 20 minutes for total install and a 5 star rating. Something in the specs for this auger has changed over the last 11 years.

A pain in the butt to install, but worth the effort
I had a slow leak coming from my ice maker. I "knew" it was a soleniod problem, but chose to try lowering the valve pressure. Of couse this didn't help, and I kept dealing with huge blocks of ice in the ice maker, and a waterfall of ice down the back of the freezer. I blew that off too. Eventually, the ice mass in the ice bucket froze to the auger, and when someone asked for ice it broke the auger. Yes, I turned a one part job into a two part job... Came here and orderd soleniod and auger. Soleniod is a quick install (like 10 minutes - more if your wife wants to clean under the fridge) and I was back in business there. Auger took a lot longer, but now I have ice and no drip problems. I went with the legit part and not a knockoff becuase I have tried knockoff parts on other repairs and it tends to be hit or miss (cheap parts sometimes break sooner). If your bothing to do the work and save the labor cost, may as well go with good parts. This auger takes a beating, so you want something that will hold up (or you will find bits of broken platic in your drink - like I did with the old one.

Effective way to restore ice-maker function.
In the dislike column, the auger's plastic vanes have a propensity to crack and break off when a jam in the mechanism that feeds cubes into the dispenser occurs. It would almost make more sense if these parts of the assembly were made of aluminum (or a similar sturdier material). The orifices in the dispenser are barely large enough for cubes to clear, so when cubes fail to separate properly (and remain "doubled")...it's an invitation for failure. So even though the components may fail at some point and no longer provide ice cubes, it beats junking the refrigerator. On the "like" side, it's great to have an original replacement still available for a fairly reasonable price. Also, there are an abundant number of tutorials on YouTube that makes what might have possibly been a very difficult installation...very easy. The only difficult part of the project was in the beginning of the disassembly phase which required separating one of the principal covers, there's a risk of cracking the plastic locking mechanisms. So just follow the guidelines in the videos...go slow...and be patient.

Worked great and could install it ourselves
Great to be able to order and install the part ourselves. Was fairly easy with a little help from a YouTube video. Saved us from having to wait for and pay a repair person.

Not a difficult fix.
Frustrating when these break but relatively easy installation. How-to videos on YouTube are a great help.

the fit
I didn't like that the Auger was updated to not fit exactly as the old one! We made it work by following youtube exactly! It was the correct model etc. We crossed our fingers that it would work & it did! Oh man that was a close call!

Great Fit, Fairly Easy Installation
So, like others, ours lasted a few years and broke (plastic pieces coming off). We let this go longer than we should have, not realizing how fragile it became after the first break and almost ingested plastic in a frozen drink recently. We ordered this and it came several days early. :-) Using a YouTube video the change out took about 45 minutes to an hour. You need a Phillips screwdriver, small flathead, and a pair of channel locks or large pliars. Be very careful with the alignment and sequencing of the crushed ice blades and spacers as that part is tricky. Other than that it was pretty straightforward. Knowing how fun this would be (and being opposed to plastic consumption) we opted to spend a little more on the OEM unit.
