Tips to install
Like all Gamma Lids, these are great. I don't know under what atmospheric pressure they are meant to be airtight, but under normal conditions, these keep bugs and water out of containers. Once installed, the lids are also very easy to screw on and off. A young child probably couldn't easily do it, but anyone else can, even with arthritic hands. Installation is always a bugaboo, but I've discovered a foolproof trick for it. You'll need shoes on or it can hurt your feet, and you'll need to put it in an interior doorway with even floor on both sides of the door. Double check to see that the ring gasket is fully seated in the ring and then place the entire assembly on the rim of the bucket. Loosen the lid about 2 inches, just to make sure it doesn't bind down in the next step, but not enough that it will be unstable or possibly have too much pressure on it to loosen once the ring is snapped into place. I've never had that happen, but I can see where there is a possibility it could be under too much pressure if not loosened just slightly. Climb on top of the bucket, holding onto the door molding for stability. Once on top, stomp one side down, then another, and work your way around the bucket. I'm about 250 but my wife is about 130 and this isn't a problem for either of us to get that seated properly. You'll hear a final snap once that is in place.

Best lids to date
Bought these to replace lids that collapsed from being stacked. Was worried after reading a lot of the reviews about installation. Expected it to be hard to put them on. Have several different kinds of buckets to put them on. Took the lid out of the ring, pushed one spot of the ring on and worked my way around the ring. Went on easily. Have done 12 of them. No problems. Once rings is installed twisted the lid in and re stacked. Will buy more if needed. So far very happy with them. Have had others of the same style and didn’t care for them. These have been great so far.

Air Tight!
We started making our own bread for the health benefits. So we started buying wheat berries in bulk and milling them at home. Our bread tastes amazing! Anyway, we had to find a way to easily store the wheat berries that would keep them fresh. We bought a food grade five gallon bucket and this gamma seal lid to keep things fresh. Its simple and works like it should. This is the bucket we bought which fits the lid. 5 Gallon Bucket with Lid, Set of 1, Food Grade Storage, Premium HPDE Plastic, BPA Free, Durable 90 Mil All Purpose Pail, Color: White, Made in USA

Does not fit Lowe's 5 gal busket
I use a Lowe's five-gallon bucket to store my garden soil and wanted an easy close lid with a tight fit to keep my potting soil fresh, and moist. I bought another brand that did not fit well and ran into the same issue with this one. I can grasp the handle, and the lid pulls straight off the bucket. This lid came highly recommended, and I believe it is an issue with the Lowe's bucket size and not this lid, so I am giving it a higher rating than I ordinarily would. It will probably fit an ordinary white five-gallon painter's bucket or Home Depot bucket, but not this particular brand.

Fits Gamma2 Vittles Vault 50lbs
I couldn't tell before ordering if this is the correct replacement lid for the Gamma2 Vittles Vault 50lbs. So I'm here to tell you that I ordered it anyway and it is indeed the correct replacement lid. Hope this helps someone.

tight fit, high quality
i love these things. i've got two kinds of rice, dog food, flour, beans, and more dog food stored in 5-gallon buckets with these lids. it takes a lot of effort to get the lower ring onto a bucket initially. but once it's on, the lid screws on and off with ease. make sure you're putting these on quality buckets. these lids seem like they will last forever and if you put them on those cheap-o orange and blue buckets from the home center, those buckets are going to die long before the lids. and the lids will be very hard to remove from the dead buckets. so spend a little bit more for a better quality pail. one really cool thing is all 5-gallon buckets seem to have the same rim. so these will fit any bucket you have

We’ve bought many
These lids are fantastic. We have a small farm and these lids have made chores better. We were constantly buying new lids of the regular ones but not anymore. On our bucket outside, this lid lasts a few months of persistent use a few times a day. No leaks. The feed stays dry. On the inside of the shed they last even longer. I recommend it.

Difficulty depends on color
Bought several and in different colors. Black/white/green/orange. All lids screwed on/off equally. Surprising thing is each color fitted the rim differently yet same manufacturer. The ease/difficulty of install remained consistent ifor each color. Most difficult to install rim seal was orange. It was almost impossible as it took multiple attempts to the point of muscle exhaustion. slightly sprained my wrist trying to get the last section of bead to go over rim. In my case it was almost too tight even for a rubber mallet or wood block. When it finally got on the plastic rim had stress marks from the impact force applied. Had to wait overnight before the lid would screw on with ease. Green was easier than orange but similarly difficult. Was completed without mallet. Black and white were the easiest with white the easier of the two. Popped on snuggly by hand with some effort. This I expected as necessary to keep the bugs out. These two I would buy again. Black lid is harder to label due to its color but is likely more UV resistant over the years. Black marker on black lid really isn't visible so I used a label maker on that color. Labels tend to scrap off easier over time. One caveat is to make sure the excess plastic from molding is removed/sanded out in the groove or the friction fit rubber o ring will be cut apart after a few uses on some lids. Had to hotmelt glue the broken rubber o ring against the lid on one because of this. I used E.Hofmann Plastics 19L/5 Gallon - White Food Approved Buckets from H.D.

Use warm water and a food grade lubricant if you don't want to hate life.
This is a great way to turn a food grade bucket into a handy storage container. We're using it for dog food instead of paying $50 from the pet store for a mostly equivalent product. Like others have mentioned, it is EXTREMELY difficult to install. That is, if you're just brute forcing it. Do not brute force it. Unless you're King Kong or you have a 5 ton hydraulic press, you will be defeated by the unassuming stubborn plastic lid, which taunts and belittles you as you struggle and fail to install it, leaving you with sore hands and a bruised ego. Use this method instead: 1. Fill your sink with hot tap water and allow the lid to soak in it for a few minutes. 2. Apply a liberal amount of food grade lubricant (food grade silicone, mineral oil, etc.) to the lip of the bucket. 3. Remove lid from sink and shake / dry off water and quickly apply the same lubricant to the mating taper. 3. Channel your inner rage and either press the lid on the bucket with the palms of your hands or place the lid on the ground upside down and force the bucket onto the lid, working the lid around until the last bit pops over. The lubricant allows it to distribute evenly once it's installed. You - 1, lid - 0.

I'm such a gear nerd....
I'm in love with these.Told anyone who will listen to me about them. lol. It's such a simple concept, and brings a ton of use to cheap easy to find five gallon buckets. I purchased two. One for dog food, and the other for spare bulk pantry goods. Both work excellent. The dog food, if you've ever fed a fish based food, can smell. The gamma keeps it fresh, and the smell out. Yes, they are initially hard to get on the bucket, I simply opted for the standing-on-top of the bucket method. I will be buying many more of these - kitchen compost bin a a three gallon, emergency gear in the the truck, food storage in the pantry, and wherever else I can find. They simply add a ton of value to the 5 gallon buckets.

Requires a little strength to put on but worth the money
I've read multiple comments on here about people complaining about how hard it is to install these lids, you have to consider one thing if the lid wasn't a very tight fitting and you had 5 gallons of paint or any liquid and it knocked over it would pop off someone who works in the trades I can find a dozen uses for these Ben and I'm more than extremely happy with my purchase and I will be buying more in the future I looked at buying the Uline version which would cost me $8 more per bucket and you have to order a minimum of 5 and sounds the best deal for your money you will get a little bit of course to put it on but for me that's a good thing

Will be great if you randomly get one that doesn't leak
I ordered two. It was a bit of a challenge to get them installed, but I managed with a combination of warming them up in hot water, and using clamps to install them. This is actually good, because the base is tight enough that I can't see how it would leak. The lid however is different. It depends entirely on the gasket it comes with, and one of the two I received was so loose it was falling off. It attempted to use it anyways, but it's leaking around the lid in two places significantly. Harsh rating of two stars because for $25 for a single lid, I'd expect the quality control to be better. If it was 5 for $25 I could maybe excuse it. But not at a rate that is surely 95% profit.
