Flimsy, came with bent blades ...
i hope to get a few uses from this before I'm able to find a better one. I received it today, and the first thing I noticed was the blades were all bent to the side, so i'm trying to straighten them. if this is stainless, it's a very poor quality and seems very flimsy. also, it's scratched in a few places. the reviewer who said this was a cheap dollar store item probably wasn't far off. I've made sure the screws are both tight so the handle, hopefully, won't spin. I don't plan to try to chop any veggies with it (have other tools for that) ... will just be cutting cold butter into flour, and it might be good enough for that. anyway, the blades are blunt, not sharp. if the blades hadn't all been bent, I might have given it a higher rating or at least waited until after I used it the first time. from what I've read in reviews of this and other pastry blenders, it doesn't seem to matter how much money you spend on them, as they are mostly all pretty poor quality nowadays. if it turns out that this one works better than I think, i'll return and give it a little higher rating. I still can't believe ALL the blades were bent when I took it out of the mailing envelope! :( hopefully, cold butter won't be too difficult a task for it. UPDATE 11/04/14: decided to change to 4 stars ... used the cutter/blender, since I straightened the blades, and it appears to be working properly. one blade appears to be a little shorter than the others but doesn't seem to effect the blending ability.

I'm pretty happy with the purchase.
It serves it's purpose and works fine. My only complaint is that it spins, on accident. As I'm using it sometimes I can't get a good grip on it because the metal part moves, inadvertently, from the handle. (I don't know if I'm describing it well.) I've tried to tighten the screws on the side, but it didn't help. The thing still works just fine, and I may just have a little bit of a defective one. I only bring it up because you can't really cut your butter with reckless abandon because of it...you have to kind of be a little more gentle as you do it. Or maybe that's what it's supposed to be, and I'm just a novice baker. Either way, I like it. I'm happy with the purchase!

Thought I would only use this for biscuits once a year!
But no....This is so handy for chopping so many things. The blades are sharper and sturdier than I thought they would be. The handle is comfortable and easy to hold. I steam vegetables and use this to gently chop them into smaller pieces for soup. I chop/mash beans after cooking them in my slow cooker, to make a bean dip. No, it doesn't cut raw veggies unless they're relatively soft like broccoli, but not carrotts. It does chop/cut soft fruits for fruit salad, including skinless apples. Hard boiled eggs chop nicely too. I really didn't like those "handy choppers", they were too hard to clean and their bowls were too small. I use a wooden cutting board and can now chop almost anything. OK, so I make biscuits once a year for Thanksgiving and need this to blend the butter into the flour. Yes, works terrifric for that too!

Excellent pastry blender for the dedicated cook
Cooking is my hobby; while I don't get to really cook as often as I'd like, when I do I want to use the best ingredients and tools that I can afford on a grad student budget. Pies are one of my specialties, and until this week I'd used the old two-knife method for cutting shortening and butter into the flour crust mixture. Having been asked to make all the pies for a massive Thanksgiving dinner, I decided to splurge and purchase this pastry blender. I had one in the past, but it was incredibly cheap; the thing got so bent up after two or three uses that it had to be chucked. I have not, however, been disappointed in this blender. I "christened" it with a triple batch of pie dough this morning, and was extremely pleased with the comfortable handle and the sharp blades. Five stars! I'd definitely buy it again, though I don't anticipate having to do so for quite some time.

Not quite up to my standards.
This pastry blender is constructed of a stamped steel frame and attaches to the plastic and rubberized handle by way of two screws. One side of the handle has a square cavity into which small prongs stamped out of the frame insert, held in place by by the screw. This squared-off joining between frame and handle is intended to prevent handle rotation while you're exerting force to cut cold fats into flour. Mine failed the first time I used it, and I wound up having to hold the frame to the handle in place by brute force to finish my work. Not fun. This anti-rotation mechanism is present in only one of the two sides, which reduces both manufacturing costs and the effectiveness of the design. I unscrewed mine and saw that the square cavity in the plastic handle had become rounded from my first use, and was therefore no longer effective to stop rotation. Fortunately, both sides of the handle have this squared off cavity even though the steel frame has prongs to fit on one side only. So I reversed positions to match the prongs with the remaining functional square cavity. After tightening down the screws firmly, the handle stays in place. I'm pretty certain that the screws were not quite tight enough as delivered to me, thus allowing slippage and the rounding to occur. The verdict? Poor technical design and execution with cheap materials. I'll use it until it fails again, and then I'll buy something better.

Will check it out. Looks good.
I need to compare this Norpro 3245 pastry blender to the one I gave away - to daughter-in-law. This looks and feels like what I expected. I just don't know how heavy-duty the blades are. I will bring this new pastry blender to my daughter-in-law and compare. One of the blades was slightly bent when it came out of the mailing package. It was no problem to bend it back to where it should be. That's why I want to check the "gauge" of the metal against what I used to use, but gave away.

A little flimsy.
Over time my blades bent which is ok. They still do the job but I simply can’t deal with the spinning handle.
