I have been a professional drywall sander for 30 years now. Yes I do the job no one wants to do. These pole heads are good. They use to be great back in the days. They were made from better materials (fiberglass) and would last for years. Problem for Allway was that they weren't selling to many of them. Now they make them out of plastic that wears out quicker. There sales went up. The metal clips you have to take them off. Put the bend part of the clip which there is 2 of them in a bench vise. Take a pair of pliers and bend them just a tad more. The reason why the pole head fips is because of the operator, not the the tool. When pole sanding pay attention to your wrists turning. You turning your wrists causes the pole and sanding head to turn also. To much turning causes the pole head to flip. Also try to keep the end of the pole handle close to the center of the pole head.

This isn’t as bad as I thought be you can do a lot better

Update: I bumped this up to three stars because given enough time and energy it is workable. Still not anything close to good in my opinion. This is the fifth pole sander I’ve bought and the first on Amazon. The swivel head is very free and moves easily, which sounds good, but it’s not really. It’s only comparable to the first one I ever bought that had that kind of loose moving pivot point. Except my first one had two butterfly screws that would allow you to lock it in place, or at least you could tighten so it didn’t move that freely. So this will take you some time to master if you buy it. This is definetly a product you will have to use an old piece of sandpaper if you don’t use a pole sander often. With the rubber pad and loose pivot points, it will flip all over the place with new paper on there. I’ve been doing this since I was a kid with my dad in our old house. Not a professional, but I’m no amateur either. Be aware of what you are buying. Original review: This thing is awful. It is unusable. You can’t lock the head in any position so if your not holding the actual part that swivels it will just flip up when you apply any pressure at all. I honestly don’t know why amazon is selling this or who in their right mind gave it good reviews.

Drywall finisher's best friend

This was far and away one of the best home improvement purchases I've made over the last year. I've had lots of drywall repairs to make in a new condo, and most of them were pretty small patches. I rather naively had assumed that some sandpaper and elbow grease is all one needs to take care of those. Using a hand sander for the first time is life changing, and this one is made very well. The ability to get a smooth finish over a large area, or even a small one, by applying even pressure helps tremendously. The grip on the Allway one is soft enough that you won't wear out your hand. And it accepts standard size pieces of either sandpaper or sanding screens. I found it to be a particularly effective took with sanding screens, even for sanding down layers made with the heavy weight joint compound that don't sand as easily. Some complained about the clips being too tight, but I found them to be perfect. They hold the paper or screen in place tightly. Unless you're in the market for a hand sander with a drywall vacuum attachment (which is a pretty good idea if you do a lot of this messy work), this is definitely the hand sander for you.

Product dimensions are incorrect, and don’t trust Q&A either.

Questions and answers indicated I could use the 9” pre-cut sanding paper, of which I ordered a plentiful supply of different grits. However, matching up the two products today, really excited that I will be able to sand and refinish a step stool that belonged to my husband’s late grandmother, I discover they are, indeed, NOT a match. So, do I make another order for sandpaper to match this product, or do I just buy a regular old-sized manual sanding block that fits the paper that I now have? Yes, the question and answers section somehow trumped, in my mind, the 13.4” as detailed in the description, which is also incorrect, as the length is just under 9”, so shame on me for not seeking clarification on the contradictory information. Either way, I am out some precious bucks and my project will not be ready for a Dec 1st birthday gift. Yes, I can have the project ready for Christmas, but that is not the point. Look-and-feel: It’s magnificent-looking and feels sturdy. Clips seem like they would secure paper well. -3 stars for loss of money, project delay, and product dimension misrepresentation. + 1 star for me not verifying dimensions with the seller. + 4 stars for the product’s unverified durability and ease of use. Product feels sturdy and handle is comfortable - but not verified by actual use. NOTE: Actual dimensions of base: 8-3/4” x 3-1/4”, plus add AT LEAST 3” to the paper length for a secure fit. Width looks perfect.

I like how there's a soft rubber tread on the bottom ...

As other reviewers noted, it's oddly shaped. Just a bit too long and narrow for a half sheet. Why? The clips are stiff, but manageable when pushed out of the latch and not just brute-forced open. I like how there's a soft rubber tread on the bottom to give a little cushioning, which I feel helps sand surfaces that aren't (either by design or by age) perfectly flat. Still, because it needs a strange size sheet of sandpaper, I haven't used it much at all. I'd return it, but for the couple bucks I spent on it as it was an "add-on" item, it isn't worth it.

Best hand sander hands down ,no question ,no arguments

Better than any other hand sander i tried ,easy to set the sandpaper ,soft corner do not scratch drywall in the case of slip.

Will do the job.

The price is right. It feels really good in the hand. The metal clamps that hold the sandpaper are really stiff but that makes for a strong grip. Overall not bad, will do the job. **Update** After having used this for a longer period of time, I have to withdraw my good review. The clamps aren't quite as solid as I first thought and do not hold the sandpaper very well. Nothing worse than having your sandpaper come right off right in the middle of sanding, not once but three times. I do not recommend this item.

Weak secureness

The sander would not hold down the sandpaper. It would constantly come loose. Tried to different kinds of sandpaper to ensure it wasn’t an issue with a specific kind. Would not recommend
