Yes, this is a "cheater" tape measure!

Why do I say that? Because it has fractions down to sixteenths displayed on the tape. When I was younger I mercilessly punked anyone who used a "cheater" tape measure. "If you couldn't read a tape with just the basic markings, you weren't in the business!" was my common mantra. Well now that I'm old and can't see very well this tape gives me the ability to keep "in the game," if you know what I mean. I can stay "in the business." I can quickly focus on the fraction markings and align with the hash marks to get an accurate reading. I like the dull white over shiny yellow base color as it's easier to see in low light - or any light for that matter. Once I started using these tape measures I found the white writing disc on the side invaluable to record just taken measurements because not only can't I see very well anymore, my memory ain't so hot either. What was I just saying? Probably not important. What is important is these tapes last a long time through hard abuse. They are not bullet proof like the older versions of the Fat Max. But at $9.99 or something like that you can replace them without too much $$$$ pain. I find I get at least two years of constant use out of one of these. One more thing. The built-in pencil sharpener works for a while but eventually won't put a sharp point on the lead. I use Ticoneroga #4 HARD pencils for marking while woodworking so I like a nice sharp point. Awesome tool if you can live with the cheating part. I've seared my conscience a long time ago, so I'm good.

I didn't realize I could love a tape measure

I keep seeing everyone on YouTube rave about these FastCap models. I own a bunch of random tape measures, but thought I'd give it a try because I really liked the idea of being able to put notes on it. It is worlds better than any tape measure I've ever used. It's mechanically amazing. So smoooooth. The lock is great. The rule is so easy to read with the black on white and labels on the 8ths, so I'm not wasting time counting. I've found myself actually using the pencil sharpener a few times. I spontaneously realize I have both a dull pencil and the tape on my belt or in arms reach on the bench. Oh yeah, the belt clip is actually usable. It's well constructed. It's comfortable in the hand in a way I just never thought about. I've dropped it on concrete a few times and it gently thuds. No worry about bending the hook or it generally getting out of whack. Even the pencil sharpener blade hasn't been dinged. I just didn't think a tape measure would be such a great experience. Nice tape, but I still prefer my Milwaukee.

I have bought two more of these!

I am a woodworker by trade and have many tape measurers laying around the shop. My wife bought one of these because I was making fun of her for not being able to read a tape measurer. This is great for that. It breaks down measurements to the 16th, but on the 16ths it just has the top number so its actually readable. For example, 5/16 just says 5 and its in red where the other numbers 1/4,1/8... are in black. Very cool. I was so impressed with her measuring tape that I ordered myself one. The day I got it in and starting using it, I loved it so much I ordered two more. Best measuring tape ever. Oh also it has the numbers on both sides of the tape, I think its called lefty/righty. This makes a huge difference when marking a very narrow board, or a very wide board.

Finally a take measure for lefties

If you're like me and are completely over reading a take measure upside down, this is your tape measure. Don't worry righties, you can use it too because the measurements are on both sides... Like tape measures should really be. I think they're a lot more detailed than store bought measures. The numbers are very easy to read. The belt clip is actually spring loaded, which makes it a lot easier to put back on your pants pocket or wherever you keep them while working. The price ($7.99 at my purchase time) was 100% right for your money. Actually, I think you're getting a lot more for your dollar value. I'm happy with my purchase and I think you will be do. 10 out of 10 recommend.

Favorite tape measure

I’m a DIY-er and this is the best tape measure I have ever used. Easy to read in either direction and the white circle is nice to pencil in your measurement so you don’t forget. Pencil erases easily off it too.

Solid, imperial, best you can buy!

So solid and well built, I didn't realise it was purely imperial so bought the yellow one straight after. The accuracy is great which naturally knocksdown easy reading. the sketck pad and sharpener are must haves now. The clip is much sturdier than usual Best of its kind anywhere!
