Broke after 6-months
Invested so much money hoping that this will be THE ONE, but after 6-months of using it, it broke. One day, it made a beeping sound and just wouldn’t turn on. I have to hold the device and angle the power cable in a very specific way to keep the device on -which makes it impossible to use! Also feels super dangerous thinking that it’s the wire connection issue. I reached out for customer care service, still haven’t heard back. Extremely disappointed with the terrible service & poor quality product.

Expensive Elchim
Very expensive flat iron but gets the job done. Everything comes packaged well which I was impressed with. It heats up fast and i love the swivel cord. Comes with travel bag as well. For the price hope this lasts for a very long time!

Hair Stylist's View: Just okay. 3.5 ⭐
Being a Hair Stylist for over 30 years, I've used my share of hair straighteners. This hair straightener comes nicely packaged, has its own pu leather bag ~ with no strap, and without any instructions. The only information you get about the flat iron is written on the box, much of which is written in different languages. The only paperwork you get inside the box is a warranty card, of which I'm not sure where it goes to. The only accessory you get is a heat proof cover for the end of the straightener to hold the clamps together when finished using. Now, about the hair straightener and my experience when using it. All of the controls are on the inside, which leaves no possibility of an accidental turn off, which is a plus. It gets hot rather quickly and noticeably, by the green lights that are visible on one inner side of the two straight elements, or clamps. They flash as they are heating and turn solid when they have reached the selected temperature. The floating heating plates are beveled on each side, but not on the ends, giving areas for hair to snag between them and the plastic clamps. As far as using the hair straightener, it's rather heavy and when I run it through a section of hair, it does not want to grasp the hair firmly and it often snags some of my hair, especially at the ends. It does straighten quite well, but it's harder to manage than other straighteners I've used before. I usually find it very easy to curl my hair with a hair straightener, but this one is a little too heavy and grabs and snags my hair a little too much to make that an easy task. I do have fine thin wavy hair, so that may make a difference with this hair straightener. Though, this hair straightener is decent quality, it is not the quality that most professionals look for, nor does the quality meet the price tag. For this price tag, I would expect a real leather bag with some sort of strap, extensive directions, negative ion technology, no snagging of the hair, smoother gliding, a little less weight, and a warranty card that actually goes somewhere official and is valid. This is my view about, and how I experienced using this hair straightener several times. I look at hair and nail products through the critical eye of a licensed Cosmetologist, so many things are just nitpicky and they are still good home quality products. This hair straightener claims that it is professional-quality, but it would not hold up to the rigors of all day use for a hair stylist. It will work fine for the home user. I still find it quite expensive for the quality, but what matters most is if you like the quality of something and want it. If you do, buy the product, regardless of what others have to say.

MUCH more upscale than my previous flat irons!
My first impression of the Elchim 8th Sense Styler was WOW! Everything about it seemed super premium - from the simple, sleek outer packaging, to the stylish travel bag, to the styler itself. Everything feels very high quality. My hair is rather fine and is a combination of straight and wavy. It is straight near the front but super wavy/unruly in the back. Without straightening, it just looks like a hot mess. Since I do straighten my hair often, I want a product that gets the job done without being overly complicated. I need something that works well and gives me sleek, smooth looking results. I appreciate that there are 11 temperature settings (203°F – 455°F) because that gives me options. Since I have such fine, thin hair, I NEVER want to use a setting that is too hot. I started low and gradually increased the heat until I found the perfect setting. The design is sleek and simple. It heats up quickly and I LOVE that the controls are on the inside. So many stylers have the controls on the outside so I am randomly turning it off or unknowingly increasing or decreasing the heat. The flat iron fits comfortably in my hand and I didn't experience any stiffness or hand fatigue during use even though it is a bit on the hefty side. It feels considerably more weighty than my previous flat iron. The flat iron itself doesn't get hot and I had no issues whatsoever with burning my head, hands, or fingertips. I did experience some mild hair snagging at first. It is easy to snag your hair between the plates if you aren't careful. In the end, I was left with smooth, sleek, professional looking results.

Really fancy straightener
I have an older straightener that is my tried and true. It works with my hair still wet so using this one and needing my hair to be fully try before I could test it out was a little frustrating. Since I have delicate hair (thin and fine), I used a lower setting. And I used an even lower setting than I might normally since the instructions say to start lower and work up to a higher heat. I did eventually go a few clicks higher but even then my hair would not stay straight. I was afraid to go too high because I did not want to damage my hair. I usually use a very low setting on my other one so I don't know if the difference is dry vs wet or what. My hair has a natural wave/frizz when I don't straighten it and trying to get that out when it's already dry is apparently near impossible. I would get it straight then spray it down with a humidity friendly hairspray and it STILL ending up having the kinked waves throughout. Really quite frustrating. I think if I were to spend the time to blowdry my hair with a round brush then use this it would probably work great, hence the 4 stars, but I ultimately am too lazy to do that so I think I'll end up going back to my tried and true one that I can use when my hair is still wet.
