If it were 3" taller, I would buy six of them.

Pros: Easy to install, sturdy, works great. Cons: Not quite tall enough. Minus a star: A huge unremovable sticker on the only part that sticks out of the dirt. It it looks like crap until you either color it with a big sharpie, or (what I did) spray it with the forest green enamel paint leftover from an old project. What's that? You don't HAVE any spray paint the same color? Yeah, that sucks.

Made in USA, Built to Last

I just bought my 3rd one this week for a garden expansion. I purchased the previous 2 over a decade ago. They are built to last. They're made in Akron, Ohio, USA. My only wish for these guides is that they would come in black. The green plastic would blend in a lawn well, but black plastic would blend in a garden better.

Very nice, and easy to install if you put some thought into it

These work very well for saving flower patches and small bushes from accidental hose damage. When mowing you just pull out the inner spike as you pass it, mow over during the next pass, and replace during the next pass. It adds almost zero time to your mowing, and eliminates any need for string trimming. I tried driving them in per instructions, but my ground is too compacted for that, even after a rain or soaking with a hose. So I took my bulb planting auger and drilled a hole and they dropped right in. The fit was a bit loose the first season (had to stand on the outer flange when removing the inner spike) but after that the dirt tightened around it. Using the auger also makes it easier to change your mind and move them. Garden Auger Bulb Planter for Soil and Earth Heavy Duty 2.00" Dia X 24'' Length They're very unobtrusive, but that also can make them easy to trip over, so use some planning. I thought about removing the inner spikes and only replacing them when using the hose, but the open hole started to fill with grass/etc. But that still might work for someone with different grass, and is worth trying if you have children or general public running about. I did find a much better price elsewhere for buying lots of a dozen (check Google Shopping).

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST

Without a doubt, THE BEST hose manager I have bought. Although they seem expensive when compared to the $1 big box store hose managers, this is well worth the money. Just figure out where you need to direct the hose - protect flowers, landscaping stones, etc - put the base into the ground by either stepping on it if your ground is soft enough or use a sledge hammer with a board on top of the base to prevent damage, and then insert the spike into the base. The spike will move up and down in the base allowing for your hose to stay controlled and not jump over the spike. And they blend in well with your yard. Ive ordered 2 different times for the front and back yard.

The Best Hose Guides Around!

My hose was forever damaging my delicate flowers. No matter how careful I tried to be it seemed like I always ended up dragging the hose across at least some of them while watering the outer areas. My lawn man suggested using hose guides, but wasn't crazy about the idea of having to mow around them. These were the perfect answer. The base gets pounded flat to the ground with surprising ease, making it no problem to mow right over them. The guide part drops into the base and sticks up about 6 or 7"...plenty high enough to corral the snaking hose. And since they are so tall, it only takes a couple of stakes to protect the whole line of plants. One at each end of a bed does the trick, so it saves the effort of pounding them and the expense of buying so many. I pull up the stakes when it's time for lawn maintenance and effortlessly drop them back in when its done. Happy me, happy lawn service people! These made a big difference in yard care and removed a serious frustration factor. A good purchase!

OK, but difficult to install. Mower-Safe. Plastic.

OK, but they seem pricey for what they are (plastic). Installation is not easy. You'll need an 1.5" - 1.75" soil auger to install these. Or dig a hole with a hand spade, etc. They cannot be driven in with a mallet or plastic will shatter unless you have the softest loamy soil. Main advantage to others in this price range is that the guide can be removed from its holder when mowing. Doesn't allow for direction change (you must re-loop). Plastic is aesthetically jarring in a nice garden. Eley offers stainless steel hose guides that would be mostly invisible when the guide is removed, and which can be easily driven into the ground with a hammer and block of wood, but they are $20 each. So aesthetically I would prefer the Eley metal guides to these molded plastic ones in the garden but they cost 2x.

A great hose guard!

I purchased several of these from Amazon, having had them many times in the years before and understanding how well they have worked for me. Once you have the spiked sleeves secured into the ground, the inserted guards work quite well for keeping hoses out of gardens or away from where you don't want them to be. Then, after your watering is done, and just before mowing your lawns, it is a simple task to just pull out the guards and lay them out of the way until you're finished. The sleeve sits flush to the ground and creates no obstacle at all. Because these are made of strong plastic, they can take some gentle pounding, but because our property has hard dirt and small rocks more typical of mountain soils, I used a heavy spike and hammer to create a narrower hole than this hose guard needs, sort of like how one drills smaller holes for larger screws. You want this hose guard spike to be set firmly into the ground before use. I have never had one come loose even under hard tugging of a hose against it.

GREAT, but no gummy sticky stuff for shipping!

I REALLY like these. BUT! when they arrive, they have a very hard to get off sticky stuff that keeps the two together I guess during shipping from company. That is the worst part about them. Took me a long time to rub/brillo pad soap/water to get the label and gummy stuff off....Other than that, I really like them and will order 2 more for a total of 4 in all. Use a brillo pad or something to get the sticky stuff off and the label, then you are good to go. There should be another way to keep the two parts together from factory to you.

My husband bought two. Easy to install. Work pretty well. Way too EXPENSIVE for what you get.
