It works!

I had extremely low expectations for this device. In fact, I bought it primarily for the funnel and tube, so we would not have to climb under the Christmas tree to water it. The notification device was a possible bonus in my mind because I knew it would likely not work. However, we did install it as instructed. (It works completely independently of the tube and funnel. It could be used by itself, as could the tube and funnel.) Much to my delight, it has worked very nicely. There is some type of light sensor on it – I guess it is so when you walk into the room or turn on the light, it will let you know if the tree needs water or not. However, it also might work on vibrations. Because we did get a few times when it seemed to randomly chime to let us know the water was at a good level. (Maybe the water was very close to the full level, and our footsteps activated it.) Mostly, though, it worked as expected-as we filled the water, it would chime and we would stop. Occasionally we would hear Jingle Bells playing. We would add water to the funnel until we heard the chime, and life is good again. At first, we did check the levels when watering, when each alert sounded, and at other times with no sounds, to make sure it was accurate. (It would be silly to rely completely on the gadget and have our tree dry out and potentially ignite.) It has seemed to be very accurate, and took some of the stress away from, ”Did we water the tree? Did you forget to water the tree?” The funnel also does make it nice to be able to fill the tree from a standing position instead of creeping under the tree and crawling through dropped needles.

Great Concept!

Love the concept, but the execution lacked. Because of the packaging the tubing included was kinked so severely that the water is not able to pour through. It barely trickles. This causes the fill cup to overflow very easily while trying to water the tree. This results in a wet mess. I attempted to por boiling water through the tube to reform it but it did not help much. The concept is great! If the packaging could prevent the tube from bending so much it would be wonderful!

Helpful(ish)

I love that this plays music when I need to water the tree. We haven’t had a real tree for a number of years. This has been helpful with keeping up on watering. The water tube is junk. The flow is a trickle. Watering takes forever. If you are interested in this system, I wouldn’t buy the deluxe. Buy the “Nanny”, but get a funnel with a hose. It will probably work better.

Great Idea

I purchased this item for this past holiday season. It was my first time with my own tree so I wanted to make sure it lasted until Christmas. One of my least favorite things is crawling under the tree to check to see if it needs water and to water the tree. This invention for the reason you no longer have to do that alone is worth it. I love the ease of using the funnel and tube in the back branches of the tree to fill my stand. The unit itself seems fairly well built. The tube was a little hard to straighten out at first but after running hot water through it for a couple of minutes it was no longer as stiff and easier to straighten out. After installing the unit I was eager to try it out. I filled the tree stand until the unit chimed and was excited to hear it working. Then it chimed again...and again...and again. I didn't know what was wrong. Turns out I had a defective unit. I called the company's phone number I got off their website and talked to someone (I think it was the inventor) and he was very customer friendly and overnight-ed my another unit free of charge no questions asked and no need to return the defective unit. This was even with purchasing it through amazon. The new unit worked great as advertised. Chimed when full and played jingle bells when low. I have to admit, I didn't let it get low enough to for jingle bells to chime while on the tree just because I found it easy enough to water my tree every couple of days. The fill chime is what is the most worth to me. Overall, I think this product is great. I do think the method of fastening the unit to the tree could be improved on as the Velcro was hard to get on the tree and stay in the exact spot I wanted for the sensors to read correctly. Other than that, it was great and made taking care of my tree a lot more enjoyable.

It does it's job with a little help

The nanny works as it should but it was not all that easy to set it up. Your first consideration is to make sure it is installed right away before any decorations or lights. Ours was delivered a little slow so we had to work pretty hard to get it on without knocking loose any decorations. Once it is installed make sure you position at least one light within sight of the light sensor. If it does not see light it will not go off. This is a great feature to keep it from waking you in the middle of the night but the rest of the time you really need the low water alert. We have a big 10ft tall tree so the included hose needed to be completely un-coiled to get the funnel anywhere near a comfortable height. This is not all that easy. The hose is coiled up in the package so when you take it out the coil will not naturaly straighten out. Plus the hose is not super long either. I had to run hot water through the hose then hang it quickly from a shower rod with a small weight to even get the hose semi straight. Once I did that I could hang the funnel at a decent height. I also was worried about the bottom end of the hose coming out of the tree stand water reservoir so I made sure I tucked the end behind the Velcro that holds in the sensor. Once I figured out all the above it works as it should. Too bad some of this stuff is not mentioned or detailed enough in the instructions. Next year it will all be easier. A final thought is common sense but might be missed. You are not going to use it again for a year so take the batteries out before putting it away.

This is amazing everyone needs one

This was honestly unbelievable. Every year are trees drop needles everywhere. But this year are tree looked amazing for over 6 weeks. I actually could not believe how much water the tree drank and it hardly shed at all.
