Use LiquidTex Heavy Gloss Gel to give it a Museum Look
The media could not be loaded. To get the Look of A Museum Painting read my review for the inserted product link. This review is intended to help buyers with this product, and I myself will buy and use the products again. To gather all the information Read & Watch the complete review. Remember this review 3 months later when you have finished and are completely disappointed because the painting is beautiful, BUT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE LOOK! It has a haze to it and the paints are dull and have a chalk look. That is because you need to apply an ULTRA thin film coating of LiquidTex Heavy Gloss Gel to the Board BEFORE APPLYING ANY PAINT; and mix EACH COLOR of the paints with this gel. You can read my technique in my review for that product by clicking on the inserted product link then look for my review. What to look for: Look at each board in my video and look for a glare/haze, not the shine, it's a glare or a haze. The Taste of Italy the 1st one at the beginning doesn't have it bcz I used the gel correctly (Prep the board and mix gel in each color). Then I show you the blank board #2. You can see it right away especially next to the garden painting, and it hurts your eyes to look at. That glare/haze on that board will not go away even after you paint it if you don't use the gel. The 3rd garden painting still has the glare but is also disguised by the gloss shine I put over it trying to get rid of the glare that the board emits. You would have to see that at a distance and I did not have enough time in the video to show that the glare is still there. I don't know why these boards are made to do that. It ruins the view and these are 5***** Star designs. But this technique controls that glare and you can see your painted masterpiece without the glare blocking the view. I discovered that it was the board by putting the boards on the wall to look at with light coming in from a window on the left side. I left the room and came back in and the glare/haze was so apparent I could not believe eyes or see my painted work of 3 months-- or the design on the blank board, for that matter. That glare/haze completely takes over the view even after being painted. Then I discovered the paints dry flat and chalky only adding to the problem. So look at the board and how they look when being moved back and forth in the video. That is what you will see when you walk buy your painting that takes 3 months or so to finish. I am going to test an acrylic spray finish as (stated on the box)on the back of the board to see if that will be ok for a protectant after I am done with Taste of Italy then I will edit this review with that result. *Review Update*: The Acrylic Spray Finish is not needed if you use the Liquidtex Gel. The board can be ruined easily when trying to correct a mistake by using water and rubbing the surface to remove paint. It leaves a NOTICEABLE BLEMISHED MARK that cannot be fixed bcz the fibers on the board ball up like wet paper. The gel prepped board prevents that problem. Mistakes can be easily repaired using the gel. One thing I don't like using the gel is that you don't get paint soaked into the board and when using the tape for straight lines a thin coat sometimes comes off. But is easily fixed with no blemish. I choose applying the gel to the board bcz of the results when finished. I cannot enjoy my painting without using it on the board. So for me this is the best application to appreciate my hard work. If you buy the gel I guarantee you will use it after you see what I am seeing and experiencing the quality of the paint and the material the board is made out of. These are the 3 ways you can paint the board: 1) Right out of the box (I Tried This) Result: High contrast of glare that blocks view of dull colored chalky paint. Careful making any corrections bcz of permanent blemish marks. Should last forever. Clean with a dry dust cloth. DISSAPOINTING *COVERING A PAINTING AFTER IT IS DONE WITH THE GEL TO REDUCE THE HIGH CONTRAST GLARE WILL CREATE ANOTHER PROBLEM OF DULL PAINT WITH NOW A HIGH GLOSS THAT IS TO SHINY TO SEE YOUR WORK. 2) Purchase gel and APPLY to board and mix each color with gel. (I tried this) Result: A rich moisture looking painting with depth High Contrast glare is virtually gone. Board was easily versatile when a mistake was made, corrections are 100% blemish free. Can even use an exacto knife and scrape off paint leaving it blemish free. I had to make repairs when using tape; paint came off in thin areas when removing tape. Clean with a damp cloth to clean. Seems durable not sure how long it should last maybe 10-15 years. Not in direct sunlight. I worry about thinly painted areas, but they can be repaired easily. Happy with results, but discovered when starting my 3rd painting that My board coating on this one was good, but was not ultra thin and paint could not penetrate to board surface. I applied the gel straight from the container to the board. The Painting surface still came out nice and the result I am happy with. But there are worries. 3) Purchase gel and DO NOT cover the board and ONLY mix the paints with gel. (I had already prepared my board for use before this review was written/Videod so I couldn't do it this way) Results: I have not tested it this way yet. But I have tested this on the back of the board of Taste of Italy and I think I am going to use this one next. Result A rich moisture looking paint; repairs can leave a permanent blemish mark, but is not noticeable when mixing the gel with the paint and applied to area. Wipe with a damp cloth to clean. When using tape it did not lift off any paint from the board surface. It doesn't look like you'll be able to see the haze/glare that the board emits. This is probably the best solution for the result of a museum looking paint finish. This should last forever. *****Review edit: I found the best board preparation. On my 3rd paint by number. You need to make sure the gel is applied WITH AN ULTRA THIN FILM COATING AND I DO MEAN ULTRA THIN. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT. GET A VERY SMALL 6 OZ. JAR ADD ABOUT 2 TABLESPOONS OF THE LIQUIDTEX HEAVY GLOSS GEL THEN ADD TEASPOON INCREMENTS OF WATER AND vigorously SHAKE THE CONTAINER. IT SHOULD HAVE THE CONSISTENCY OF ELMERS GLUE OR A TAD THINNER. LET IT SIT FOR A DAY OR SO BCZ AFTER YOU SHAKE IT VIGOROUSLY IT WILL HAVE AIR BUBBLES. DO NOT APPLY WITH AIR BUBBLES IN IT LET IT SIT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. THE GEL IS AT IT'S BEST TEXTURE THE FOLLOWING DAY WHEN BEING MIXED WITH WATER AND PAINT. YOU'LL SEE WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. Pour your prepared solution onto a saucer you'll need about 2-3 tablespoons Apply the ultra thin coating very quickly with a 2 in brush. Hold the board up to your eyes with the light shining on the surface and SCAN ACROSS THE BOARD & look for any missed areas. The ultra thin coating if done thin enough will allow the paint to still penetrate the board.***** The gel dries clear and hard protecting the surface and locking in the paint. It is odorless and safe. That is why you can clean it with a damp cloth. Neat Stuff! *****Important Review Edit: The key to making the shadows coincide with the time of day, that the painting portrays, is the SHADOW ON THE SCALE. Make sure you get the right tint (darkness of the white on the scale)the mixed color code is W. If it is to white then it changes the time of day of the overall painting. It is totally awesome how that works! I painted it a lighter color to begin with then went darker and it changed the entire painting to DUSK when you light the lamps. That is the time of Day the painting is portraying.. Very important key to this picture***** *****Review Edit DO NOT LEAVE YOUR BRUSH SOAKING IN YOUR WATER CONTAINER. IT DIMINISHES THE ABILITY TO PAINT THE DETAILED AREAS. NOTE: THESE BRUSHES ARE EXCELLANT AND BUYING THE NEW ONES DON'T HAVE THE QUALITY FOR THE DETAILED AREAS. I HAVE MANY BRUSH TYPES AND THEY DO NOT COMPARE TO THE ONES IN THE BOX. Also, the dry brush technique (listed

Pros and Cons
This painting came out beautifully! The picture posted has plastic wrap around it to protect it till I get it framed. Here are the Pros - delivery was excellent the painting has a board backing and comes in a long flat box and the picture is well protected. -lines for the drawing are very easy to see and even more easy to cover with paint. They are a lite tan color. I was amazed that someone understands the frustration of trying to cover black. - excellent paint! Nothing was dried out or too thick. Easily adjusted with a little water. - because of these things, I bought another painting and plan to buy more and I enjoyed painting! Here are the Cons - most of the paint colors you use you have to mix two of the colors together to get the color it calls for. They tell you what colors to mix however, I don't like to mix the paints, when I paint like to open the color and go, don't like to mix. If you have to got back and touch something up you never get the color just right. Some of the colors that show on the color/number chart are filled in black or filled in lighter gray and on the painting it was hard to distinguish between the two because the painting had three filled in colors not two. I had to adlib. These Cons did not prevent me from buying another one!

Challenging but great results.

Definitely a challenge
Have been doing pnb for years (dozens of sets). This one was one of the more challenging. The numbers are really (really) light and difficult to see even with a magnifying glass. And there are a lot of blank spaces that need to be referenced to a paper instruction sheet (very tough when they're so small!) That all said .... Paints are good quality and I prefer the board vs cotton canvas. Colors are accurate to the picture.

Not for beginners!
Let me tell you, this was a tough one and if I wasn't painting it for a birthday present I may have given up. I didn't realize how much mixing was needed and how detailed it was. A challenge for sure. I completely changed the color of the lighthouse and the sail because it looked more realistic. Warning, if you are going to be painting with Dimensions, be sure to buy some paint pots for your mixing.

Dried paint
This is my ninth Dimensions painting (I obviously like them) and it's the first one I received which had apparently been sitting on the shelf way too long; the paints were thick and lumpy. Fortunately, I was able to salvage them with drops of water and a lot of vigorous stirring with a toothpick. The couple that were beyond salvage I was able to pull out from leftover paint from previous Dimensions paintings. For your information, the number on the left side of each paint pot is the color number for that particular painting. The number on the right side is the manufacturers number for that particular color. If you've saved paint pots from previous paintings you may find that same number, or you can probably find a color which is close to the one you need, and when the painting is finished no one will ever know you substituted a different color. I also rinse out paint pots from previous paintings, and use them to mix colors for the painting I'm working on. I dip one color to be mixed, with a toothpick, and wipe it into the LID of the recycled paint pot. Then dip the second color, wipe it on to the other side of the LID, and mix therm together. When done, store the paint pot upside down, so the paint doesn't run down into the pot itself. One other tip; if you're mixing colors that will be used for shrubbery, rocks, trees, or other uneven surfaces, don't mix the two colors completely; leave them a little mottled. It will give a wonderful effect. All in all there are no better paint-by-number sets for adults than Dimension. Try them; you'll like them.

Best quality ever
This is the best paint by numbers set i have ever painted. Really good quality. But requires a little but experience. It has about 18 different colour but you also mix colours to obtain new other 18 colours. So you basically paint with about 36 different colour. It is super detailed and takes time to finish.

Sunset Cabin paint by number
I bought this kit and when it arrived it looked very detailed almost like a maze! But once I started painting it, it felt so relaxing to do. The paint is excellent quality and the board is actually a thick cardboard so it’s not a cloth like other kits which really helps. You only get one paintbrush which is actually good quality but not small enough for some of the areas. I would recommend getting a set of very fine detailed brushes for the tiny areas. The only thing I dont like about this kit is that you have to mix 24 of your own colours to get a blend of different colours on the painting, but other than that, amazing kit and amazing quality!
