Very good 8 inch Whetstone

The stone I bought, labeled as simply "One Size", is an 8 inch Whetstone, fine grit (600 grit), color is red because DMT fine grit whetstones are red. Their extra fine ones are green (1200 Grit), coarse grit are blue (325 grit), and extra course (220 grit) are black. Amazon doesn't sell the latter two. For kitchen knives, all you really need is this stone, the fine (red) stone, as long as you don't let your knives get too dull. You can buy a set of three 6 inch DMT whetstones, different grits, for close to the same price as this single 8 inch whetstone, but I bit the bullet and bought the 8 inch because I like the extra size that much better and all I need is the fine grit stone. I tend to let my knives get dull to where they don't easily start a cut on a tomato, then a few minutes with the Whetstone and the blade will again shave hairs off my arm and easily cut a tomato. The technique I use is to keep the stone wet (a puddle of water on the stone, it should be kept wet while sharpening), and move the blade across the stone as if I was taking slices out of the stone, while holding the blade at as close to a 20 degree angle as I can. Not a ton of pressure while sharpening, but you should feel a little resistance as you move the blade across the stone. Equal sharpening on each side of the blade (except for some Japanese knives). When done with the Whetstone rinse it off and dry it. I've tried lots of sharpening systems, and this 8 inch fine stone is my favorite.

Works awesomely!

Love DMT sharpeners! This one replaces my 6” block & fits in nicely with my 8” fine grit whetstone DMT sharpener! This one works an edge well & then can be honed with the fine grit.

glued in?

got this for my husband for christmas, and the stone would not come out of the wood box, dunno if it was glued in or just crammed into a too tight opening, but there was no way we could get it out of the box without destroying it, so we had to send it back to DMT for a replacement.. the stone itself seemed fine and he has had several of these stones for many years and is always satisfied with their products.. too bad we had to pay to send it to DMT for a replacement..

Nice but arrived with missing Wooden Box - No vendor response as of yet?

Quality diamond sharpening stone, similar to classic Hoferitz original. Expensive but worth the price HOWEVER: Item sent as gift and wooden storage box was NOT included contrary to BOTH photo and written description. Vendor please rectify. After much time, STILL no vendor response on missing wooden case for sharpening stone. It was a gift so I can't a return. Come on Company do the right thing and correct your error. Thank you. .....Updated months later. Still o vendor response. Crickets. Stay away for this vendor. I will update review if and when I hear back. Thank you.

For anyone who has used these sharpening stones before knows this... They are the one For twenty years I've been using these for everything from sharpening knives to creating a micro groove edge on tile for a bathroom shower or tub surround or countertop I am a general contractor and have at least four of these stones being used on the job all the time

Great product. In my mind's eye I was ordering the six inch. Got the eight inch instead. Wow! More than enough real estate, now. Very easy to stroke. I own the six inch medium and would like to get to get a coarse to complete the set. I'll definitely get the eight... might even replace my old six inch medium with a new eight inch. Love the extra surface area.

The best in the industry

Absolutely recommend this sharpening stone I had one years ago and got nearly a decades use out of it. Recently brought a new one and it is as good as I remember. Can sharpen tools and knifes to near if not sharper than razor blades.

Disappointing

DMT have a good reputation, so I had high hopes of this diamond plate, but I was to be very disappointed. 2 out of the 3 photos in this listing show a solid steel diamond plate, similar to the Trend and Sharpal versions. These photos are NOT the product received. What I received is actually a thin (~2mm) diamond plate bonded to a plastic base. It is currently advertised at £72.62, a 61% discount from the claimed full price of £185.99. Very disappointing even at the discounted price, at the full price it would be nothing short of scandalous. I would send it back and get a replacement, but if I can't trust the photos to be a true representation of what I will actually get, how can I have any trust that the replacement will be any better? My advice: stick with the Sharpal or Trend equivalents.

Afilador fino, no es mi eral. Es una lámina de acero sobre un taco de plástico. Yo como lo cogí en oferta bien pero no vale lo que cuesta sin ella
