Customer service, yeah right
The product is actually fantastic. Really heavy duty, nice looking railing brackets. One of them arrived slightly bent, so it won't lay flush against the wall. I contacted Design House and corresponded with Becki Coakley. My purchase is 6wks out of the warranty window, they don't issue refunds or partial refunds AND she was unwilling to sell me a single bracket (they are sold in sets of five. No exceptions). If not for this interaction, I would have definitely recommend these. But I feel there are similar products from companies that value a good customer experience.

Great looks for the price.
I like these so much better than the old style with a "U" shaped strap under the handrail. These are super easy to place and install. The supplied screws are very well hardened and do not round-out when tightening. Be sure to use a #3 Phillips... a #2 will not grip well enough as it is the wrong bit for the screws. Always pre-drill to avoid splits, even the studs. For safety sake I like to 45 degree (22.5 miters) the returns to prevent "purse snags" or hook peoples clothing causing them to twist and fall down the stairs, which can be tragic. I see this done fairly consistently in commercial applications.

Use of the screws.
The handrail itself is a good value. 6 for around $24. You can buy something more expensive, but you may not be able to improve on the quality. There is a problem with the screws though. If you are using real oak handrails, you will want to upgrade the screws. I broke two of them off in the handrail while attempting to attach the wall attachment. Screws easily break off and create a problem. I went to Home Depot and purchased small chard. The screws are stronger and won't break off as easily as the ones that came with items. Worked out great.-

Good brackets
I bought these to replace a broken handrail bracket, and these replace them well.

Poorly finished
The weight and design are good, but the finish is bad. The brush satin was very poor and only on part of the bracket. The brackets were dinged and scratched and were shipped with no padding.

Nice quality
These replaced some old handrail brackets on my basement stair. They are solid and the finish is nice. The single screw in the center made it easy to install loosely until the handrail was attached and then tighten it down at the exact angle required to match the shoe of the stairs. They look nice and match the finish of my door hardware.

Installed five for a 12” old handrail
Installed into studs and braces against drywall as well. Worked good for an old reclaimed hardwood rail. Would buy and use again
