Beautiful subtle colors.
This is a beautiful collection of 12 warm and cool shades, with a representation of browns, greens, blues, pinks and a gray, all muted with graphite. I tried to put a light wash on the paper, to show the subtle differences between the shades. The paper I used is not the best by far, and there is a smudge on the bottom of the second page, but you can see the possibilities for nature study, landscapes, florals, or whatever. These paints would work well with a permanent pen and ink. I wasn't sure whether to get them, but am so looking forward to exploring this palette and making my own blends with the colors provided.

So far so great!
So far I'm enjoying this palette! I will update as I use more, as I feel first impressions shouldn't affect others to buy or not. You can definitely sheer it out or layer and build. The one thing I will say, I do enjoy the graphite effect. Note... it does say to get the most out of that effect, to use on cold pressed or rough watercolor paper! That way the graphite falls in the grooves of the paper and makes the effect. I see tons of reviews saying they don't see it. Well there's your missing key.

Returned
Small Half pans and not the graphite look I was looking for especially for the price.

Great paint, missing brush
The paints are very good as you’d expect from Derwent. However, my set was missing the water brush. Since I have other brushes and didn’t want the hassle, I didn’t return them. This is my second issue with Derwent’s quality control.

Just gorgeous
These were a risky buy for me. Really out of my comfort zone. I've never used anything by Derwent so I can't compare them to the Graphitint pencils. But these are beautiful, muted colors that all play nicely together. They have little chunks of graphite in them, but I love that texture. People say these can rub off on your fingers if you run a finger across a dry painting, but that has not been the case for me on my usual paper (Strathmore 400). You can layer and glaze a bit with these if you do it with a light hand, otherwise the underlying color will lift up. Not a drawback, but just something to be aware of. The best part of this set is the way the colors shimmer on the page when hit by sunlight. Pictures just don't do them justice. The case is great. Plenty of mixing wells and no beading. Just buy them and go paint something light and airy or super moody. You won't be disappointed.

Paints are fine, packaging is annoying
Worst part of the set is the paints come flying out of the panda when you open it. The pans aren't labeled in any way so it's not St all easy to figure out which shiny grey cube goes where. The plastic swatch card I'd of limited help as the colors when swatches aren't extremely distinctive. After some trial and error I THINK they're all back where they belong. The paints themselves are a blast to use with nice muted colors and interesting granulation. I just wish Derwent made more of an effort to label things better.

Great for adding a quick shadow
This is great to add a bit of quick shadow, or grit to any painting or sketch. Colors are pretty, great to use over watercolors to get a grit effect. Warning graphite does rub off when touched, even when dried. Can be erased but always leaves a bit of dirt.

Can't say enough...
I'm in love. I'm a painter and illustrator and I can't believe I didn't find these earlier. I will be reviewing it on my channel. But if you are wondering if they are good or not....yes. Effortlessly flow and mix with each color. I really enjoy these almost....better than watercolors. I've been into muted colors in my paintings and this did not let me down. Thanks Derwent! Received two of the same colour
I did like these paints, colours go on smoothly and are highly pigmented. The actual colours are not quite as vivid as the swatches, especially slate green which is not as aqua pigmented as the swatch. Unfortunately, I will be returning my set as it contains two aubergine pans and is missing the juniper pan. You can see in the photo that the aubergine swatched exactly the same as the pan beside it which was supposed to be juniper. I did read a review where the buyer had a similar problem, so I am assuming Derwent has some quality control issues. I gave them a four star rating because of this issue. I have discovered that you can create similar muted tones to this Derwent set simply by adding sepia to your other watercolours. The photo on the left shows some examples that I swatched using this method. I think they look just as good, the only thing is that they are lacking the slight sparkle that graphitint paints have.

Tinted graphite!
Colours in pans are a nice mixture of muted colours….. would have appreciated one more yellow but it is fun experimenting! Using the water brush takes some practice but overall an easy convenient non messy tool to use especially plein air when outdoor painting! Generally a nice compact watercolour kit! Great for travel!

Good match to the pencils.
These pans are a great match to the graphitint pencils, go on just like regular water colours. Love the muted shades.
