Egg Machine

This is my daughter’s favorite kitchen appliance. She’s going off to college this year and says this is the only item she wants to take. She placed her egg whites on there with her turkey bacon on the side placed them on her wheat English muffin with some cheese and she’s good to go No need for Starbucks every day ????????????????

What's good, what's bad

First the good: It's easy to clean with a damp paper towel. It doesn't take up much space and is an attractive color. The griddle is great for grilled sandwiches and possibly other grilled foodstuffs. My husband says he enjoyed the egg bites, (but would be happy with the same ingredients in an omelet or scrambled eggs). Teens and college students might have fun with this appliance. Making little cakes and sandwiches. What's bad: The egg bites, whether you stir in some cottage cheese or not, have a spongey mushy texture. If you don't stir in cottage cheese, they are flat. So if you don't want that flatness, you have to keep cottage cheese on hand. The silicone molds have to be sprayed with cooking spray. Unless you make a really thick sandwich, you won't be able to use this unit as a panini press. There is no temperature control on the unit. I had to use a rubber spatula or a pot holder to open the unit when hot or risk a burn. You can make tastier egg bites with your oven and a muffin tin. It doesn't make many egg bites at one time, so if you are making them for more than two people, expect to do multiple batches. This is an unnecessary appliance. For example, if you have an electric fry pan with a glass lid, as we do, all you need are silicone molds and you have something that's better. It's small, but it still takes up space and most kitchens don't have much space for small appliances of limited usefulness. I paid $50. Currently, Sur La Table is selling this appliance for $30. So I feel pretty foolish right now.

Fun breakfast bite maker

I have used my Insta pot to make egg bites, egg bombs, but this adds a little bit of a flair to it. I can make nine egg bites for anyone who wants to grab one in the morning, and I can make more and put them in the freezer or refrigerator for the week. They get done a lot faster than in the Insta pot. And they’re not as soggy as the egg bombs are in the Insta pot.

I love this machine!!!

The media could not be loaded. I used to buy egg bites at Costco, and you only get eight egg bites for $10. Now I can make my own and they taste even better than the store-bought. The instructions say to cook the egg bites for 8 to 10 minutes. I found that to be quite accurate as long as you wait for the water to start boiling. The instructions say that you do not need to use nonstick spray for the cups, but said that you could use it. I didn’t use any spray, and they pop right out. If they don’t pop out then they might not be done yet. Or if you let them sit in the pan for a while, then they might be a little bit difficult to get out, so it’s better to take them out right away. But to be careful because those little cups are very hot! I just turn them upside down on a big plate and they pop out. Then I turn them over and put cheese so it can melt. The instructions say to only fill the cup 3/4 of the way up to allow room for expansion. I did this on my first batch, and they did not rise to the top of the cup like expected. So the next batch I filled them almost all the way to the top. They came out just fine, but the cheese that I put on top did kind of make contact with the upper plate and got cooked pretty well. I like that though. Keep in mind the more ingredients you put into the cup, the less egg you will fit. I found it best to put my ingredients in first and then pour the egg on top. The egg flows down and fills in all the gaps in between the ingredients. The instructions say to use two of the little cups to put water on the bottom, and then you place the cups on top of the water. You can see in the video how the steam rises up to help cook the eggs. The little cups are easy to clean by hand. I tend to drip little strings of cheese into the water and sometimes egg if it drops off of my cup as I pour. But that is still easy to clean up with paper towels when I’m done cooking. I put one in the freezer and ate it the next morning, and it was really good. So today I made another big bunch of them and froze half of them. I would love to get an extra set of cups so I can stage them to be ready when I pull one batch out. Just make sure you add water before you add the next load because the water does tend to evaporate. I can’t say enough how much I love this machine and how easy it is to use and how good the egg bites turn out. I thought they would be all spongy and gross, but they are absolutely wonderful! Do be careful when using this machine. It does get hot. Steam can burn you. The cups are hot when you remove them from the machine. I am really impressed with this machine.

Missed the Mark

I really wanted to love this product, especially after reading the positive reviews, but just didn’t. The concept is great — it’s simple, easy to use, and you can make a ton of egg bites for meal planning. I bought it to save money and recreate Starbuck’s Egg Bites, but it fell short. I was never able to get the correct sous vide texture from it and ultimately ended up returning it. Texture is big for me, so if the eggs come out too rubbery I just can’t eat them. I followed the instructions to a T, tried multiple recipes, tips, and, tricks, but just couldn’t get it right. I also didn’t love the individual silicone cup style. It’s a nice option when you want to make less egg bites, but I felt like I was racing to get my egg mix in to cook at the same time and also didn’t find them easy to clean. I think one removable insert with the cups built into it might be easier, as this way you could add the egg mix to as many cups as you wanted and insert them at the same time, then remove the tray and clean it all at once instead of cleaning individual cups. Again, great concept and product, just didn’t work for me.

Nice new idea to experiment with

Used it following the recipe included and the eggs were amazing. I now have several ideas to try with this appliance. Would be great for families and buffets. Have always liked this brand.
