Firm
Best seat cushion I’ve found for being supportive and holding its shape. Due to a shoulder limitations I need elevated for a better angle with arm when sitting at table crafting hours at a time. I’ve now bought 3!

Soft, comfortable, supportive, okay density-wise
After sitting at my desk for twelve hours a day studying for boards, my arse began to hurt. This cushion seems to be just the ticket to prevent me from getting hemorrhoids. The pad is three inches thick. I'm 180 pounds and the firmness / softness is pretty good for me, I'm sure it would work for someone lighter as well, but maybe not for someone much heavier because it is not very high-density foam. A previous reviewer said that it was more supportive than a regular cushion; that's true. The memory foam seems to distribute my body weight more around the hips and legs and work a lot better than the throw cushion I was using. And because it molds to my body-shape, it "holds me in place" in the seat, hence providing some degree of back support. However, this statement in the description: "Its ergonomically designed to help maintain proper posture" is complete BS. It's a rectangular piece of memory foam. There's nothing "ergonomic" about it. There's nothing this rectangular piece of foam, or any other for that matter, could do to correct posture. If you want to relieve office-chair-induced lower back pain, sit better! Hold your shoulders back, spine straight, both feet flat on the ground in front of you, with the seat height adjusted so that your knees are at 90 degrees, in a chair that offers lumbar support. But this cushion will distribute your weight more evenly around your perineum and upper part of your lower extremities, and hold your butt still in the chair, which might offer some back relief. Previous reviewers have stated it seems to lose it's "memory" after about a year of use. I haven't used it very long so I can't comment with regards to longevity. And frankly I don't care, as long as it gets me through the next few weeks I'll consider it money well spent. I will say that it is relatively low-density memory foam, because after I press the foam (taken out of the cover) I cannot see my hand print. Hence, it's less memory more foam. I give it four stars due to making impossible claims that serve to enforce the "no responsibility for my own actions" mentality that plagues this country, and because I would like the foam to be somewhat higher density. Also the price is a little high for what it is (I can get a higher-density memory foam pad for my whole bed for ~$60). Otherwise it meets my expectations and saves my bacon.

Good, but no magic
Searching for a good seat cushion is very frustrating. And VERY subjective. Even among people of the same build and weight, one may like or dislike what another praises. I've tried theDrive Medical Deluxe Skin Protection Gel "E" 3" Wheelchair Seat Cushion thinking that it must be one of the better ones because it has a "gel" center. But my buttocks was sorely disappointed. Then I thought to try a foam pad, and people say that this one has the magical memory foam. After sitting on it for several hours I became less and less satisfied. Opening the seat cover (a zipper) I could see that it does have 2 layers of foam. The top feels like a light version of memory foam. I'm not positive, but I think that memory foam comes in 2 or more different densities. If so this one is one of the lesser versions. The bottom (and thicker) layer is a bit firmer than the upper "memory foam part. It does flatten out, but I would too if someone weighing as much as I do were to sit on me. Used by someone of much lesser weight this would probably be good enough. In frustration I placed it on top of the 3 inch Drive Medical cushion. A little bit better, but again, no joy. Of the 2, I think that I prefer this one to the Drive Medical gel version. For one reason, the Drive Medical gel seat feels like I'm sitting on a plastic covered cushion. With this one I don't get that plastic induced sweat that I do with the other one. Personally I would give it a 3 star ratting. But for lesser weight people this would be fine. I think that if I were to place a closed cel foam pad, such as those used by children, underneath it that it may be acceptable for me.

Works Well
I bought this seat cushion for my mom. She broke her hip about a year and a half ago and she has a lot of discomfort when she sits. The way the rod to repair her hip was put in, there is some pressure on her tailbone and the affected hip. She kept asking for a memory foam cushion. I found this one at Target.com but found that I actually could get it a bit cheaper through Amazon, especially with the free shipping. It is a high density memory foam, about 3 inches. It feels somewhat firm to me but my mom loves it. She said a great big "AHHHH" when she sat on it the first time. One of the reviewers said that it did not last and tends to flatten out. Well, unfortunately, if in use all the time, memory foam does that. My mom and I both have memory foam mattresses on our beds and after about 3 years, you need to get another mattress topper as it loses that cushion-like feel (just a side note, never buy a topper less than 3-4 inches as they will not provide the cushion one is expecting; however, the higher the inches, the more firm it becomes, so 3-4 inches is good but over than you get more and more firmness which might not be what you are looking for). I have bought really expensive as well as cheap memory foam products and they all do it. So, for about $23 for this cushion, even if it lasts 1 year, I will be happy because my mom is getting some relief from her discomfort. The other good thing is that it is easy to take off the cover and wash it to keep the cushion clean.

Not for people who sit for hours
Foam is way too soft to give good support to people confined to a wheelchair.
