it's not you; it's me
Really wanted a shoulder plane; preferably one of the Taylor tools 3 in 1 but they've been out of stock. Found this at a great price. Sharpened the blade. Just cannot get it to seem to work as well as my bench planes does. Not sure if it is the design; sure looks like every other shoulder plane out there, or if it is my technique.

will do what it’s meant to, but needs some TLC out of the box. I wouldn’t expect it to last forever.
I’m a newer wood worker. This is my first plane. This tool came coated in grease, I’m sure to prevent rust which I immediately cleaned off. However the female and male threads to all 3 adjustment screws were rusted to the point there are difficult to operate. I’ve gotten them mostly cleaned up but I worry they will break off at some point in the future while trying to adjust the blade depth. Base seemed to be milled flat and front and back pieces match. Touched up the blade on a stone. With about 30 minutes worth of work, having never cleaned a plane but knowing how to clean tools, it seemed to work ok. As be others have said, if I could go back I’d probably spend a little more and get a wood river or other brand with better QA. I’m waiting on a block plane to arrived, that I had also spent a little less on and I think I’m going to return it and get a better one as a result of what I learned from this one. Main lesson i learned today is that I value having 1 tool that works extremely well, rather than 2 tools that are both mediocre. This tool will do what it’s meant to do, but needs some TLC out of the box. I wouldn’t expect it to last forever though

Good tool for the price.
This is a good tool for the occasional user. Easy setup and did the job I needed it to. Quality is decent and precision for the price. Hardware can use an upgrade but it worked well for me. Five minutes of adjusting it and it cut ribbons cleanly and easily. No complaints.

HANDY IN THE WOOD SHOP
My husband is making custom bookshelves for an unusual area of the house. This shoulder plane easily trims a small area without compromising the design of our project.

Sending it back
This just isn't a very well made shoulder plane. It's a lot cheaper than similar planes from the more esteemed companies, and there's a good reason for that. The machining is pretty sloppy, and the knurled adjuster slips loose & doesn't adjust properly. The blade honed-up okay under a whetstone & strop, but I still didn't get clean cuts on the edges and had to do a lot of chisel clean-up afterward. Bottom line, if you know you need a shoulder plane, you need a better one than this.

Poor quality shoulder plane
Despite claims on the packaging that this is a "Precision" shoulder plane and "professional quality", it is definitely not. To start, the bed on mine which the blade rests on was out of square, which resulted in the plane not being able to cut evenly across its width without regrinding the angle on the cutting edge. After carefully flattening and polishing the back of the blade, I honed it to a keen edge at the required 25° angle. I then made a test cut on the end grain of a piece of maple from my current project. This resulted in the edge of the blade curling over. Absolutely useless for its intended purpose. I returned it to amazon.

Rough diamond
Literally a little rough around the edges but nothing that wasn't fixable within 60 minutes of tlc. Remove the swarf, re-tap the hole for the blade adjuster, flatten the sole and flatten and sharpen the iron. Having done that, the result is a sweet little plane.

Could be worse.
It needs a tune but not too scabby. What is more interesting is the misspelling on the box. “Shouolder” plane
