A nice watch

I’ve only had it a couple weeks, but it seems to be solidly crafted. It feels solid when winding. I left it on the shelf for almost two days after fully winding it and it was still ticking and keeping good time. I haven’t timed how long it takes to run down fully, but I think it is probably a bit more than 48 hours. The casing is approximately two inches in diameter, and approximately three eighths of an inch thick. To me this feels large and thin, but not overly so. It fits nicely into the watch pocket on my Levi’s. Note that there is no second hand. The crown is at 3 o’clock rather than 12 o’clock, so you open it sideways to view, as with an older style pocket watch. The hunter case lid does not open to a full 90 degrees, but stops slightly short of this. The face is large enough, and the sideways grip gives a good enough angle that I do not find this to be a significant impediment to viewing. The window gives a very nice view of the mechanism. One can clearly see the balance wheel, the mainspring, and most of the gearing for driving the hands and setting the hands. The escapement is only partially obscured. I cannot quite make out the gearing for winding the mainspring; this must be in the back, underneath the rest of the movement. It’s much easier to see the function than with other skeletonized movements I have encountered. The inside pieces are bright and shiny, with the hand setting gears in silver and the rest in gold. Non-moving pieces are decorated lightly with simple scrollwork. The hour indicators are Roman numerals, with a “IIII” for four o’clock. The chain appears to be solidly made, and has a clasp rather than a hook at the far end. Generally I prefer a hook, although it seems to be a good, solid clasp. As I have only had it a short time, whether it stands up to daily carry is still an open question, although I am hopeful. The inside view of the face is quite visually impressive; I expect it would work nicely as a display or formalwear piece even if it cannot survive daily carry.
