Absolutely beautiful!

I bought the watch for my boyfriend when I found out he really liked pocket watches, but had never actually owned one. He absolutely loves it and carries it with him daily!

Keeping Time So Far. Chain Lock Fails

I've had this pocket watch for about 2 weeks now and so far it has kept perfect time everyday. As long as you remember to wind it, as this is a "mechanical" watch. The watch itself is beautiful. Chrome plated with open windows on the front and back. You can see its movement, gears and main spring. Winding the watch is easy, simply turn the knob that sits on top of the watch, where the chain loop is. Same for timing setting, pull the knob up and set the time, push it back down and you're done. The main cover has a "crest" style engraving that has an empty space for custom work, such as initials, etc. The back side is also engraved, but with no open spaces. To open the watch, press the small button that sits on top of the winding knob; both the front and back covers open by doing this, so if you don't want the back to open when you're checking the time, simply place your hand on the back of the watch and this prevents it from opening on the back side. The face has roman numerals on a white background, very easy to see. The minute, hour and second arms are black and can be hard to see for those whom may have vision problems, but after some time, you will get used to it. As for the "tick", not incredibly loud, but it can be heard in quiet settings, but during normal hours, unless you put the watch right next to you ear, you can't really hear it. The chain measures just over 14" long, that's including the main clasp/hook and the hook that goes to the watch. The chain itself is chrome plated and very well made. The watch's diameter is just under 2" OD and 1.5" ID (ID for the actual face) All in all, a great watch, BUT, I gave it 4 stars for two reasons: First and foremost, the hook at the end of the chain that grabs the watch; it is weak or not well designed, I can't really tell, but what happens is, the hook is not tight enough, so the watch will come loose and off the chain from time to time. At one point, I was reaching for the watch, by pulling on the chain, the hook let go of the watch and flying it went, taking a hard hit on the floor. I was pissed and shocked. Luckily, the watch was not damaged and incredibly, not scratched either. I'm gonna have to find a better chain and you should do the same if you plan to use the watch with it. The second reason, but not so important to me, but also good for you to know; the watch's main face is PLASTIC, not glass, this isn't a huge deal for me, because after all, the watch does have a metal cover, but it is something worth mentioning. Oddly, the back face, is glass. Anyway, that's it. I love this watch, it has kept the right time so far and that's all I can ask for...well, except for the chain's hook (the actual chain and main clasp are great). If you plan to wear the watch with a chain, either buy a better one or be warned about the hook. You can also buy this:Charles-Hubert, Paris 3572-6 Black Leather 56mm Pocket Watch Holder , but it isn't cheap.

Sigh, I really wanted to write a good review on this.

I really wanted to love this watch. The reason I am giving this watch a two instead of one star is because in almost every way this is the watch I have always wanted. I love pocket watches. I love skeleton pocket watches. I love silver toned pocket watches. I love pocket watches with a some weight to them. This watch had the look, feel, sound and gravitas I always wanted in such a timepiece. But the quality is, to be blunt, crap. This is the second time I have attempted to buy a watch of this sort from this company and the result is the same. Within a month something fails. The first time it was the minute hand detaching from the face. This time it was the rear glass cover and the back plate falling off when I opened the case the to show a mutual watch enthusiast. She kept her giggles to a minimum, but she had every right to laugh like a six year old boy at a fart party. It was funny and embarrassing. And please remember all I did was open the back cover. If there is one back handed compliment I can give about the quality of this watch it is this. At least both failed within the one month warranty limit provided by Amazon so I could return it through them. If it had held on a week longer the return would have had to be through the company and that is a more arduous process. I must state again how much I loved everything about this watch but its workmanship. If anyone perusing this review knows of a similar watch with a quality to match all the other attributes I have mentioned, I would happily pay substantially more than the price of this one for it. I hope this has proved useful to you.

Sorry about this purchase

I orders this pocket watch twice. Ist time, the back crystal was broken. Second time , the cover wouldnt close, the hinge was bent. A real shame

Really is a good pocket watch and looks great!

Beautiful pocket watch. I spent several hours on line trying to find a pocket watch that was stylish and worked. I was able to find pocket watches ranging from several dollars to over $20,000. I did not want the cheap watch that would not work and certainly did not want to spend thousands so this watch seemed the right price and met all my needs and desires except for having a plastic face which is not as resistant to scratch as I desired. Unfortunately the only face that met that was sapphire but that crank the cost up to over $500 snd more. I decided that since the pocket watch face is covered that spending a lot more money to have the sapphire was not really necessary. I think it will be a good choice for most and I am happy with my purchase.

Good and elegant watch

Like someone said before, I won't give 5 stars for two reasons: the face is plastic and the ring which attaches the chain to the watch is can come off easily. The good things: this is a very elegant watch. I like the way the roman numbers look and the outside has two designs ( a fleur de lys on the back and place to put initials on the front). It keeps time well. People say you need to wind it in the morning and the evening so that it keeps time well. Everyone time I check the time I wind it a few turns which works for me. Like I said overall a good buy. If you are looking for a fancy looking watch for a good price ($90) it is the way to go.

pocket time

i've carried a pocket watch for years because i destroyed or lost several wristwatchs . i really like this pocket watch , it looks rich , and it's clearly better than the inexpensive quartz ones i have . the quartz pocket watchs keep great time but feel cheap and lightweight . not like this one . beautiful hunter case , excellent mechanical movement , the kids are fascinated by the movement , all the gears and spring working away . the only thing is the hands are difficult to read , especially in low light . they blend in with all the cool stuff going on behind them . 4 stars ..
