Pretty Disappointed

Pretty disappointed in the quality of this item. When you plug in the light and fan inside the unit, the unit will not fit together properly and sit flush against the ceiling.

Replaced my 20+ year old fan

This was an exact replacement for my 20+ year old Broan model 655 exhaust fan + heater combo, sans heater. Form factor is EXACTLY the same (mounting, wiring, ducting), so this was a very straightforward installation. Fan is MUCH quieter and works well. Light housing is a bit small, so you may need a more compact (read: thinner) bulb, but it all works. I also had to shave the plastic grill down a bit to get it to sit flush with the ceiling, but 5 minutes with a dremel took care of that. Not a big deal. If you have an old Broan exhaust fan, this is the way to go.

Fan doesn't work (updated)

Got the unit installed only to find the fan makes a humming noise when powered but doesn't spin. Very disappointing especially since the install was not fun dealing with insulation in my attic. Update, 8/18/2022 - I contacted Broan customer support and they quickly responded and are sending a new fan. Still a hassle but I do appreciate the customer service.

Works great!

This fan evacuates all the steam from the shower, which is all we can ask. It's not too loud, but you can hear it. I can't speak to ease of installation because we hired it done. Would buy again.

Moves a lot of air!

I got this to replace the fan in my 23-year-old, 70 CFM, Broan light/heater/fan combo. The fan was dying and I figured I could just switch the fans out, and update the grill portion. This model didn't have the heater, but moved a lot more air than the old one. When it arrived and I began comparing, the new fan would not fit in the old enclosure because it used a higher volume (thus taller) squirrel cage fan blade assembly. I ended up replacing the whole enclosure, which required a trip to the hot attic and some serious manipulation due to my trusses. One good note is that the new enclosure had the mount points for the heater already in place. I just had to move the electrical plugin from the old enclosure to the new, and my heater dropped right in. I was also able to use the old duct adapter without disconnecting the duct; it snapped right on to the enclosure. Overall, I'm pleased with it. You'll need some good mechanical skills to change it out. I consider myself a fairly skilled DIYer, and it took a couple hours to change it all out. It's not as easy as they portray it. Soundwise, it's a little louder than the old one, but it's moving more air, so that was almost expected.

Sounds powerful - but far from it!

I had to replace a 20 yr old fan/light/heater in our small bathroom and I chose this Broan-Nutone 696. Did not need heat! Already hot enough in there! I had it installed by Electricians that knew what they were doing. It has been in - for prob. over a month and I was just noticing it didn't seem to be sucking the steam out. So I thought - I'd get on stool and take a piece of toilet paper and if it was sucking good - it would suck that toilet paper up to it. But it kept blowing the paper back in my face. So I told my husband - he got in attic and checked it - called the Electricans and they said basically all the new fans today were junk - cheap - plastic. My husband said he couldn't figure out how it even worked cause the fan blades were straight - and not at an angle to be able to pull steam - odors out. He said he had done all he knew to do - and since the Electricians said not much we could do - cause they were all about worthless - I'm on a mission to try another brand - I have lost $90 plus bucks on buying this - plus electricians fees (over $100) and I have nothing. The only thing I like about it - is the bright light. The one I replaced that lasted over 20 yrs - was solid metal and copper color. Everything today is cheap - china - plastic . Typical American stuff now. But my old one was noisy but yet showering - you could see the steam - just pouring over to the fan and out! This one is a lot quieter than our old one - so that is a plus. But again - what good is what sounds like running hard - but seems to blow the air back into my face. If the fan is working correctly - It should suck a piece of toilet paper from 2 feet below it - up to the grates!
