Easy install if. No attic access and had to remove some ceiling to get old unit out..

Unit was ok for the money. A little skimpy on metal but once install unit is solid A little loud but that's OK old one was too. Easier to install if you had attic access. Unfortunately my attic had ac vent and ducting covering access. Everything was done from below had to cut ceiling to get old unit out. Very limited space I has to install.

Contractors Grade

The fan delivers on it's objectives: it is a powerful exhaust fan that provides light. It is a little loud but that is okay. Sometimes it's a nice to have a little noise in the bathroom to block out sounds. The headline of my review is "Contractor Grade". No frills and no instructions were in the box. Luckily the instructions for this item are posted on the Amazon page for this product. I read the previous reviews and took the advice about potential rust problems and sprayed two coats of satin sheen clear paint. Note: I suggest masking the light fixtures, threaded materials along with the cloth covered wire. This fan is ideal for new construction. However, I felt the instructions were very poor as applied to my situation. I was replacing an old fan with no access from the attic. The instructions suggest cutting a hole in the ceiling that is the same size as the metal housing. If you do that, you will have issues trying to affix the housing using the metal tabs or the rails. One positive thing about Air King, I called their West Chester, PA office and spoke with a gent in Technical Support and he provided some tips for attaching the housing to the joists. He indicated that contractors often avoid the mounting rails and tabs and simply drill holes in the metal housing and screw it into the joists. I followed his suggestion and drilled holes and used drywall screws. Note: one side of the housing was screwed into the joists and I screwed two other sides of the housing into wood strips that I screwed into the joists. This made it very secure. Wiring was easy as I took photos of the wiring scheme from the existing fan and matched them up to the new wires. I have worked with Nutone Fans in the past and they often have a nice panel to remove to permit access. This does not. There is a curved piece of sheet metal in the housing protecting the home for the wiring. I used a screwdriver to push this panel loose from the notches. This allowed me to do the wiring. I cannot believe how much time I spent trying to attach the light housing. They provide two lousy screws that are barely long enough to screw into these little notches in the housing. I substituted two screws from my workbench that were slighly longer. We bought this fixture because my wife liked the light fixture. The thing is installed and up and working. In retrospect, I wish I had paid more money for a unit that might be more user friendly with regards to the installation, etc.

Great fan, excellent price

Love this fan! It's quiet, powerful, the fixture is beautiful, and it's finally enough light for that dark corner of the bathroom. It was about $100 less than some of the other brands that looked exactly the same. Great value! Installation was fairly straightforward. The only not-perfect thing was that this has a smaller internal box than our old fan did, which left a gap around the box in the rough opening. We simpy needed to cover the gap with aluminum tape to finish it and keep a good seal for the fan suction. No problem there. We were able to wire the light and the fan to separate switches, as well, so the light doesn't have to be on when the fan is, and vice versa. I'd recommend this fan to anyone who wants an upgrade from the ugly plastic ones.

Very good product that does the job.

The product arrived in great shape. Delivery was quick as well. Installed easily. The existing hole was a little bigger than this unit but I just glued some boards around so that openings were not big enough for mice and big insects to enter. Spray foam filled the rest of the cracks! Very good product but a lot of sharp edges. Cut myself more than once putting this up. That is the only reason for a one star deduction. The finish is like so many today. Simple brushed chrome/nickle look with a thin plastic coating over it. I am sure it will come loose over time and especially with the steam from a bathroom passing over it constantly.
