Wonderful! Much much better than the Vortex VTX1200!
Bought this and The Vortex Powerfans VTX1200 Vortex 1140 CFM Powerfan, 12". There is no comparison. This one outputs 2-3 times the air volume. Is much better built, has a much better motor assemble, much more advanced design as it has inline fins that help creat the sir dynamicas and is at least twice the fan. Returning the Vortex because there is no way its outputting 1140 CFM. Either that or this one outputs 3500CFM. Either way this is the fan to get of the two to move air. For those who complain on sound well...seriously lmao if you want to move lots of air its gonna make noise. This is not overly loud by any stretch. We are using to exhaust a server room and its a little louder than a few servers running. Nothing ridiculous but it does make noise so if you want peace and quite turn it off or put it inline. Great fan for the money glad I didn't listen to the bad reviews!

Cannot be disassembled for cleaning
This fan is a beast when it comes to CFM, holding up to our 4 ft x 8 ft laser exhaust needs. But, as any serious laser owner knows, periodic cleaning is required, and this fan is no exception. The build-up cannot be "wiped down," it must be scraped off. Using filters reduces air flow, and deep cleaning is not an option per the manufacturer. ""The fan is not designed to be taken apart. I would suggest first unplugging the fan and taking a rag and wiping down the fan blades and the surrounding parts. I would also suggest having some sort of MERV rated or Carbon filtration in front of the fan to prevent any dust, dirt, and debris build up on the fan. Stay on top of cleaning the filter out to increase life and performance of the fan." Tech Support"

Truly an engineering achievement and made by a fine company to boot
Immediately upon energizing this fan you know you've got a real blow hard on your hands; hope your holding on tight and don't have much dust to kick up. Seriously you could use it as a leaf blower. It does sound a bit like a shop vac, but that's just the sound of a whole lot of air moving. Finally someone designed a fan using the same modeling software as is used to make jet engines, and this baby conforms to optimal flow dynamics. The body is a bit flexible with tight tolerances so it can actually rub internally if mounted in such a way as to deform the outer housing. Amazon delivered it promptly and in usual fashion, kicking around with a sorry bit of newspaper in an oversized box. Well, later I found that the internal motor housing had been cracked in shipping. Because I was out of Amazon's time frame, The CANFAN company paid for the return shipping and sent out a new unit promptly, despite my admission that it was Amazon's fault. WOW, that's a great company in my book!

Best 12 in inline fan IMO.
The best mixed inline fan money can buy. Have bought several different ones and from different manufacturers the Can Max fan beats them all. The only better fan is the Hyper fan in-line fan but they do not have a 12 in so this one fills that size. Don't waste your money on fantech. Paid 650 for a Fantech XL14 in. inline and the Can Max puts it to shame. Using it for an apartment complex central pre-AC filtering room system and it works wonders.

Trash Can Fan
I think I discovered a flaw in this design that is soon to be common knowledge when these fans begin to age. I received my Can Max Fan 8-inch 675 CFM from Amazon. The package was sealed with can fan tape so I know the box wasn't opened. Additionally, Amazon packaged that box inside another then shipped it to me. I plugged the fan in before installation and it seemed OK. I installed it and turned it on for about 30 minutes then off...all was well. After a hour or so, I turned the fan back on and heard some clicking noise coming from inside the fan. I removed the fan and spun the blade by hand and could hear the clicking. I took the blade off and there I could see that the cheap plastic motor housing was cracked all around the motor bolts. By the looks of the plastic, I would say that it is far too thin to support the weight of this size motor. I also read somewhere that another buyer claimed this same thing happened to him but he blamed it on shipping. It does sound plausible that if motor torque can break the plastic housing then so could jarring the fan by rough handling and careless shipping. In either case, I believe they should have used a thicker motor housing if they wanted to stick with plastic. I noticed in all the videos of the Can Fan 8" that the fan spun up very quickly when energized. I think this fast application of torque upon the thin plastic motor housing will eventually cause failure. Too much risk for me...I'm shipping this back to Amazon and replacing it with the slightly more expensive Hyper Fan 8" - 710 CFM Inline Fan W/fan Speed Controller. The Hyper Fan has a DC motor which is desirable if you want to be able to throttle the fan speed (which I do). The Hyper Fan also has the built in controller and out performs the "Can't Fan". :D I would like to add that I have heard that the manufacturer "CF-Group, Inc." (the can-fan people) is not honoring warranty claims unless the product is returned to the retailer first. That is not a legal practice and they should stop it. The notion that you must take the product to the retailer first would impose a duty upon a 3rd party that cannot be enforced by the consumer. I can't force Amazon to take this back and then ship it to Can-fan for replacement. Warranty aside, the consumer has a reasonable expectation that their product is free from defect and if it is defective, then the consumer has rights to reclaim their loss (by replacement or refund). I'd file suit if any company tried that on me.
