Long spoon required! Excellent thermal lunch food jar
This is great!!! I am so glad I found this on Amazon that comes with the long spoon, a storage case for the spoon and a tote bag that has a loop to hold utensils and ???? chopsticks. The food jar is very tall, almost the same height was my dining tablespoons and forks. I found the spoons on the Zojirushi website. The jar is a perfect size for my lunch. When about to put the lid on, I realize not to fill the food all the way up to the rim because the lid will push and press the food down into the jar and the food could get between the edge of the lid which will be difficult to clean. This applies to soup that can't be pressed down like food. The food should be no more than the inner rim of the container, about an inch below the rim. I microwaved the food 2.5 mins and mixed it up in the bowl before putting in the jar. That was a mistake because mixing cool down the food. 3.5 hours later, food was still warm. I now won't miss lunch from being too busy to run to the microwave to heat up my food, or the cafeteria closed. It's so convenient. I recently bought a VB tote organizer for my large tote bags, and the food jar and Zojirushi mugs fit in the organizer compartments perfectly! The jar is very wide and I barely can hold it with 1 hand.

ok I will give it time and wait for it to 'die' like all my other 'Thermos' mugs - nope
So I bought this right here on Amazon in 2013 and I can't even begin to tell you how GOOD/SOLID this product is. I also bought this 16oz tea/coffee mug around the same time. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CHOUI86/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Guys, these products are absolutely bananas. This jar keeps things HOT or COLD for HOURS!! I'm a big tea drinker. I probably drink a liter of tea (or more) everyday. I started out using this as a food jar.... I filled it up with a quiona/mushroom/onion/asparagus mix I made for lunch one day- and when I tell you it was HOT...HOURS after I had packed it. DAMN (packed at 5am to lunch time 1pm) I couldn't beleive it. I figured, ok I will give it time and wait for it to 'die' like all my other 'Thermos' mugs - nope, not this one, to this DAY in 2015, it's still HOT HOT HOT!! I've even use it for tea sometimes because like I said, I drink a lot of it. Anyway, the 16oz mug (HOT HOT too) is usually not enough teat for me. So I decided to use this jar for TEA. One day I packed my tea the night before, around 9pm. Steamy hot straight to jar. It was STILL STEAMY HOT the next day at 1pm!!! Craziness I tell you. Sometimes I even get annoyed because of how hot it is, because then I have to wait for things to cool off. So once I fill it up with food, OR tea (No after smell by the way- so my tea doesn't smell like food), I let it sit a few minutes before closing it up, otherwise my tongue would suffer greatly!! LOL So needless to say, (I’m rumbling now) Zojirushi is the KING. I also have their electric skillet/grill- UH-MAY-ZING. I have my eye on their indoor grill, rice cooker and the 1ltr carafe, because…my tea needs. BUY IT. BUY IT. It does EXACTLY what it says it does. I’m in love. I got co-workers in on the secret and everyone raves about it…. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CHOUI86/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Would buy again
We already have two Mr. BentoZojirushi SL-JAE14SA Mr. Bento Stainless Steel Lunch Jar, Silver that my husband's lunch goes in every workday. It's not really intended for large amounts of soup, so I finally purchased the Zojirushi lunch jar. It works great. My husband has actually complained that the soup was too hot when he sat down to eat lunch 6 hours after it was packed. The best way to use it for hot food is to pour boiling water into it and let it sit for a few minutes, then dump, shake dry or dry out with a towel, then place warm (not too hot to eat) food inside and seal. For cold food, place ice and water in it and let it sit for a few minutes, then dump, shake dry or dry out with a towel, then place cold food inside. Pros: It is leak proof as long as you close the lid all the way. The included spoon is the perfect length for getting down to the bottom without your fingers going into the food. It is super easy to clean, that stainless steel on the inside doesn't have to be scrubbed, mainly just a good rinse and wipe down. It keeps food hot for a long time (8 hours at least so far). The carry bag has a little extra room inside for bread, crackers, or a snack. At 25 ounces, it packs right around 3 cups of food (can't fill it all the way to the top as the lid fits down into the neck of the jar). Cons: Not dishwasher safe (I know it's easy to clean, but sometimes you wanna be super lazy). It can actually be too hot to eat from if you heat your food too far. In all, we love this jar, and it's completely worth the price.

I have owned and used many Zojirushi appliances/items in my life and have never had any bad experiences with any of them
Needed a bigger thermos for my daughter to take to school and to accommodate her appetite as she continues to grow. I have owned and used many Zojirushi appliances/items in my life and have never had any bad experiences with any of them. I like that this jar came with a long ladle like spoon and lunchbag so I don't have to buy additional accessories to accommodate. It's VERY well made and the quality is certainly worth the price, especially when you put in mind the longevity of many Made in Japan products. Surprisingly, this cost more in Japan than it did in US and many in-stores did not have this larger size yet their smaller sizes cost the same as this larger one at Amazon! I have used this for both cold and hot food - by the time my daughter eats her lunch at school, the hot food is still hot without it being scorching and the cold is cold without it being frozen. I was actually hoping to buy it in the blue or pink but many have mentioned how the coating chips etc despite careful handling or little use so I ended up buying the "au naturale" - generic SS with black trim to avoid having that issue. So far, my 6yr old loves it and the size works for my hubby when our daughter is on her sandwich days... <(^.^)>

Amazing!
I love, love this thermos! My son makes soup in the morning before school and the left over soup is still warm enough to eat when he gets home! It retains heat so well that he asked if I could stop pre-heating it with boiled water in the morning because it was too hot to eat for his lunch..5 hours later! This is so worth the price! I've tried too many thermoses and have yet to be happy. I'm not happy, I'm ecstatic! This product has been an amazing addition to lunchtime! And it's so easy to clean!

The best thermos for soup on the job site
After using the Thermos and Stanley brand with acceptable results, I bought this and a Hydro Flask lunch jar for soup for the cold winter work days. This is by far the best lunch jar slightly better thermal properties, and easier to open than the the Hydro Flask. A bonus is the bag, long handle spoon and spoon pouch.

Good qualilty
Price is a little steep but the quality is great and the laddle spoon is long so it reaches the bottom without having to jam your hand in. it's a little awkward to eat out of at first but it's not a big deal.
