Received my big purchase with a dent, but love the machine itself

The media could not be loaded. Let me start with saying that I’ve been researching different popcorn machines, for the past year and a half. Been reading all the reviews. Positive and negative. As a mom, I’ve worked many concession stands and so I knew exactly how to clean a popcorn machine. That’s one negative that I would always read about. People saying it was difficult to clean. Easiest way to take care of a popcorn machine at home, is to take a couple paper towels and a couple dry paper towels and wipe the inside of the cooker on both sides and then pull the handle down and all the loose crumbs will fall out. Next, wipe down the inside with wet towels and then dry. Once a week , take the cooker off and do a deep clean. Which is basically the same thing with a wet sponge and dry. Be sure not to wet the cord or under the popper itself. ( where the cord connects) I find doing it that way , is so much easier. Once you do it a few times, it becomes so much easier and you get the hang of it. I wipe it down after each use, but a deep cleaning once a week. Which also becomes easier with time. I would have to say that another bad review I read constantly, was the popcorn being dented during shipping. I added a pic of the dent my popcorn machine had when I took it out of the box and the excitement I had turned into a frown on my face. The drawer that collects the kernels on the bottom, didn’t slide all the way in or out. It was frustrating. I’d been searching for a popcorn machine for a year and a half and I was a little disappointed. It also said it included 3 packs of pre measured popcorn for the machine and they did not send it. I really wanted it, so that I could see if I liked it and I would have ordered more. So I tried some with another company and they had a great price for 24 packs. I do have to add that it did come with the popcorn scoop which was cool and it came with measuring spoons. Oh and with a small pack of popcorn bags. Which I loved, because it made me feel like I was at the theater. I also ordered some Kraft cheese to sprinkle on top and it was the Bomb! So I guess I can say this, if you are considering this popcorn machine. It works great, clean up is really easy, make more than enough for movie night and even a party. It’s a really good size machine. The down side was the dent in the machine, the drawer that didn’t really work and the missing popcorn they advertised that would come with the machine. I really didn’t feel like calling them or placing an order for a replacement, because I didn’t want to repack it and unpack it. It just seemed like a hassle. Maybe I can take the dent out. It didn’t affect the popcorn making lol Over all it’s a great machine and does what it’s supposed to do. You can smell popcorn the minute you enter my house. Definitely order the extra stuff for a great movie night experience. Absolutely love it ????

Dangerous Sharp Edges - Buyer Be Ware

I am generally happy with this popcorn maker. It works well and the price was fair. I am writing a review because I want others to know that there are some very sharp edges to watch out for. Be very careful when handling the kernel tray. The edges are literally raw sheet metal. I'm shocked that they did not round the edges or protect them in some way. Lawsuit waiting to happen. My wife cut her hand pretty badly while wiping out the tray. Other metal edges are sharp as well, so just be mindful of that. The only other con I have is that it is difficult to get the pot off or back on to the brackets, which you really need to do to clean it properly. Other than that, it works and looks great. We enjoy having it.

Better Than Expected

Purchase this popcorn popper about three weeks ago. I've read reviews here and from other sources. If there were three or less stars, those were the ones I read, just to get a feel of the downside of this product because, there were so many 4/5 stars. I am a retired Tool and Die Maker of 35 years, and if there were any inferior flaws, I would've found them. The popper was pretty secure in the packaging. Removing the packaging inside the unit was challenging. Simply take your time. Nothing was loose or broke. There are instructions on the glass door for making popcorn but the prepackaged popcorn with seasoning by Northern is different.I followed the directions on the door for the other two popcorn listed below with no problem. First of all, the popper arrived at my door about 5-days after I ordered it. That indeed was a plus. I read all the instructions 3 times before I popped the first corn. As like many others, I ordered the 4 oz. portion pack (pack of 24). Also, to make it fair, I purchased Jolly Time and Orville Redenbacher popcorn. Great Northern Popcorn 6100 8 ounce was exactly what I was looking for in a popper. Sturdy construction, lighter than I anticipated and the glass door was a surprise. So many poppers come with plexi-glass doors. But not this one. The Great Northern prepackage popcorn was easy to use by simply cutting the top off and squeeze the contents into the kettle. (As per instructions, of course) Popcorn had the color of movie corn, scent of butter and seasoning. Taste was great but a little too salty for my taste, since I rarely use salt on food. Cleanup in the popper was a bit taxing but doable. I completely removed the kettle and wiped it clean using a drop of Dawn in a bowl of water. Wiped the interior of the popper also. Appeared to be a bit messy from oil/flavoring coating the inside of the glass walls but again, no problem cleaning. Wiping everything so it could remain spotless is no issue with me. With the Jolly Time and Orville Redenbacher popcorn, I purchased some Organic Refined Coconut Oil (non-hydrogenated). Did some research on this also. There is no coconut smell or taste. I tablespoon is all I used and half-cup of popcorn. Between these two, Redenbacher did taste better with a tad bit of flavor. I tried both without Sea Salt and with Sea Salt. My Great Northern popped most of the corn with about a dozen "old maids" (unpopped corn) left behind. But still, the amount of popcorn I received was enough to fill 2 1/2 bags of popcorn. (Some paper bags came with the popper). I must add that the popcorn was a little tough the first time I used it but chalked it up to heating the kettle too long before putting in the corn and oil. 6 minutes, too long; 4-5 minutes just about right. No matter which product was used, the popcorn always came out huge and fluffy. I've inspected a couple of poppers from other schools in our district and even though they look similar to mine, they were not of good quality. I did suggest to my supervisor to invest in the Great Northern 6100 8 ounce. She agreed. Overall, I am more than happy with this product. Scoop, measuring cups, three plastic containers for popcorn and about 24 paper bags came shipped with it. The prepackage popcorn mixture arrived 3 days before the popper.

A bit on the small side and the glass is a bit low and crooked

I've had 2 other 8oz popcorn machines and this one is about 3/4 the size of my others. It contains the popcorn, but when I scrape it to get the kernels in the floor holes, I often touch the kettle by accident, and let me tell you, IT'S HOT! Other than that, the glass is slightly crooked and is a bit low too, so it happens that popping corn is slung out of the machine "mid-pop", which is inconvenient. Otherwise, everything is fine with the machine. It seems sturdy. The buttons are decent quality. The machine is build correctly so I can clean under the machine's floor (I couldn't do it in my last one because they did something wrong during the build).. All in all, I'm satisfied despite the little flaws.

Life's too short not to have this in your home.

This is simply superb. I'd recommend buying some seasonings along with it. Best way to use it is to turn all the switches on, place the oil in the tub, 2 pieces of corn. Once you hear them pop, then throw in the half cup or more of corn. It'll pop very quickly, then turn all off switches except for the lamp. It's tastes really damn good, load up Netflix, 420, happy days.

Good for family movie night

Great popcorn machine in terms of the quantity of popcorn it can make. 3 scoops will be enough for a family of 4 movie night. The quality of popcirn is good similar to the one in the movies Still not as industrual as a one in the movies but served the purpose for a family. Is relative small so fits on top of a small beverage fridge. I had a previous smaller version of a popcorn maker that i bough under $100 and was more like a decoration beacuse they only do a handfull at the time so takes foreever. this one Great North self purpose with 3 scoops you have enough for 4 I love it and worth the price Works good with ordeville popcorn, pops almost all corns. Valley farm popcirn doesnt pop with this model

Love this thing. Did a lot of research but in the end I should have gone bigger. For a family at home this is more than enough or close to perfect. I bought this for the office and end up having to make two or three batches at a time. Works great and super easy to clean!
