GREAT TIMER, But Not Perfect
I have to give 3 buildings that, 'lived in' look. These are the only timers I've found that have a RANDOM feature. On for 20-30 minutes and then off for similar; RANDOM within those 20-30 minutes, constantly changing. They are EXPENSIVE for a simple device; I grimace when I buy they but keep buying them. Over the years I've had a couple failures; I think they were used then not used for a long period of time. (I think the internal rechargeable battery gave out. Not sure though.) The only thing that would improve these timers: Make RANDOM for "DAYTIME", "NIGHTTIME" or "ALWAYS". It's not a deal breaker. though. AND there's a little instruction page tucked into a sleeve IN the timer. Keep it safe! Timers are *not* intuitive.

has yet to work
I follow the instructions. Had two others try to set it up. Don't waste your time or money.

Functional yet clunky
I have mixed feelings about this timer. While it works well it's a little clunky and old school. Many buttons in a dimly lit LCD window. Takes a bit of awkwardness to set it up bc buttons are so close together. Initial setup up was slower bc it says it needs 10 minutes plugged in to charge the internal battery but it took longer and didn't work in my 6 outlet plug in power hub. My other frustration is the fixed position of the prongs. You have to use it sideways depending on your outlet to not block you other outlet. In the end it works as expected just clunky to set up. I wish the LCD was brighter as well.

such a great timer - wish it were easier to program and to see the LCD screen
After years (upon years) of Intermatic mechanical timers, the Woods heavy-duty 7-day digital timer is finally a good alternative. Fully-electronic, with battery backup (self-charging) means no more noisy motors or all-too-frequent failures. Unfortunately, there are two BIG misses that keep this from a 5-star review. First of all, the LCD is not backlit, and is even difficult to view in moderate lighting or only slightly-off angle. I've included a couple photos illustrating. Luckily. for that battery backup to unplug it and angle to view the screen. And good luck seeing the tiny on/off or DST indicators. A bigger miss? Programming this unit couldn't be more complex. Program, On/Off, Clock. buttons just to set a simple. program along with separate Minute/Hour/Day buttons. Let's just say you MUST have the instructions handy - this is one area where the old-fashioned mechanical dial and start/stop triggers excel. Even with these limitations, the Woods is quiet, heavy-duty (grounded) and (so far) reliable alternative once you "set and forget" it.

Works Satisfactorily
I have used several manually operated timers over the years, and they come in handy during holidays and vacation. But this digital timer is fun to use. It has a large and easy to read LCD display and the self-storage battery (built-in) that stores the programmed timings. You need to get familiar with the operation, and hence it would be helpful to read the instructions the first time you are setting the program. It must be plugged into the wall and charge to program for the first time. It works well. The holiday season is around the corner and this baby comes in handy to light of the house. It also makes a good gift for the holidays. On the con, it has up to 20 On/Off settings that is unnecessary for most applications. Also, you need to use the "countdown" button to change time, instead of having up or down button that would make it easy to change hours and minutes.

A Pain in the Neck to Program But Works Well Thereafter
I've worn out numerous mechanical timers, so this one seemed a reasonable alternative. Until I started trying to set it up. It takes many, many button pushes to set up every on/off cycle for each day of the week. If I ever lose the instructions, I might as well throw it away, because the setup isn't intuitive. First, you have to plug it in the wall and let it charge for a while, because you certainly can't program it after it's plugged into a wall outlet. The display isn't backlit, so you can only work on it in a well lit room. I like the fact that the outlet is on the side rather than the front, so you can put this timer behind a piece of furniture and won't have to pull it too far from the wall.

Works like other digital timers we have. Holds setting in memory.
We have several of these digital timers that come out once a year. Christmas. They are great for setting lights to automatically come on/off. This Woods model looks slightly different but setup is exactly the same as our other ones. I see how it could be tricky for first time users. We label them for which set of lights they will go to so when we get them out next Christmas they are already programmed. It retains the settings for the whole year. I do keep one handy though just in case we have to program a lamp or something.

Woods 59889WD Indoor 7-Day Plug-In Digital Timer, White
Overkill. That’s what I would say on the get go. This timer could be a lot simpler and easier to use. It comes programed with 20 timer capabilities and only one place to plug in. I guess if you want your lights to turn on and off again many times during the day/night to give the illusion of someone being home this would be a good option. But I found it a bit unnecessary for my needs. I use this for my Christmas village and it works well for that.
